Have we thought blackman may want to leave us?. If so let him go (so long as we get a good price). There's not alot McCabe or anyone else can do if thats the situation. Id like to see us invest it straight back into Judge from notts county. We can but dream :) UTB

If Miller was still fit I probably wouldnt be that disappointed that Blackman is going.

Although he is our top scorer and he can score a penalty with ease (which might be handy if we find ourselves in another bloody shootout).

It is just very annoying that Sheffield United cannot say no during the January transfer window.

No doubt Blackman has a lot of talent but he can be frustrating just like I have seen of skilful but greedy players in junior football

If Blackman does go I would be gutted! I can understand that the position we are in as a club, both financially and the fact we are a third tier club, that we will be a selling club for the time being however the fact we bought Blackman only 5 months ago makes me feel the club has given up this season. Surely we must be gambling and want to keep our best players for a promotion push and if we were to make it back to the championship, regain moneys for example tv funds we have missed out the last two seasons.
So we've been worried about Long and Maguire going well they may as well now! (of course I don't want them to). Ok so people will say Blackman might want to go, well if that's the case then he wants challenge himself in a higher division good luck to him but I can't see it, in my opinion its all about whatever peanuts we will get.
Every player who has come into this club in the last couple of seasons claim they have joined a big club and want to help get it moving in the right direction for promotion...however we all know very few players have any loyalty these days.
I'm startled on selling him, yes so people will say he is greedy and shoots from too far out blah blah blah, I see a confident player who wants to try things, if you don't shoot you don't score, I remember Ched getting abuse for that numerous times...oh look how we have missed him. Looks like its up to Murphy to show us his form from Scotland.
I've always tried to stay positive but this hurts slightly don't know if I can stomach the trip along the M4 to Reading tomorrow!
The only way is up...I hope! UTB!!!

Times are changing when someone at Uni with a 'Gamertag' (?!?!) is calling me son.

Did you post that from the Brotherton Library?

The Brotherton Library does not have books required for my course, so no, I did not post from that part of the campus nor any other region of Leeds University for that matter.

Your comment of derogatory nature about a "Gamertag" is dumbfounded and has no basis in this day and age with many people of different ages and different backgrounds enjoying video games.... your loss.

Similar to this is the dumbfounded nature of your previous comment stating that Blackman was boo'd at notts. Yet you don't even evaluate or look into how crap the team performance was or validate a reason for why Blackman was boo'd. You instead follow the other muppets who think that if (when) Blackman goes it will be good for the club.... That sir (not son) is what IMO is called stupidity and when he is sold you will see how pathetic your booing was when the replacement will not be good enough to lace the lads boots. (If we even get a replacement)

Please don't use age as an issue, the fact that I called you son is not a big deal... It was more a response to a comment with no basis or value to the debate of whether or not the (soon to be) loss of Blackman will be derogatory to the club

Read the previous comments fella and wake up. No goal tally flatters anyone. Every goal could come off your arse but your still in the right position at the right time. Your point and others about penalties is also dumbfounded. If you have the technique to score from a pen or freekick again and again it earns you points, I don't see you slagging off McMahon saying he's creeping up our highest scoring players with all those shite free kicks? Or do any of you go on about how shit Lampard is, scoring so many goals a season beacuse 1/3 of them are pens..... jesus come on!

"He's quite greedy" Everyone can bugger off with that comment, the best players in the world are greedy, if you aren't greedy you don't want to score. If Kevin Macdonald was more greedy we'd be 2-3 places up the table and not so pissed off.

"2 million" Where the feck has this number come from, your deluded thinking that, just like everyone was with Quinny... We'll get knob all for him and replace him (if we're lucky) with someone who has as much pace and creativity as Doyle has.

What a joke

(I don't mean to just target you mate, just fed up of people writing drivel about how this is in our best interests and slagging one of our best players off)

**Correction Ex- best players

Im very sorry i did'nt meen to upset you with my comments. I wasnt aware that Nick Blackman has done so much for this club 6 months that any comment regarding his sale cause's a full on fit. I doubt if we sold Blackman that we would see any consderable difference on the pitch like we did with Ched. I would much rather see him sold and bring willo back. But thats opinion

Now, now its hardly a fit, more of a frustration vent at yet another shite decision.

Just: the top scorer, our penalty taker, and most creative and exciting player we have. The fact he has only been here 6 months and is an exciting young, pacey talent..... should be enough to scream why are we even thinking of selling.

You will see the effect of less goals :) as you said, your opinion pal.

Previous sales have been more understandable, because of the wage bill being so large. Given that we're now under the 65% turnover rule, it seems this is just a cashing in thing. So all of a sudden. the huge debt that McCabe's run up has taken on an extra significance. No longer are sales about getting the club on to an even footing, it seems it's now about clawing back lost money for McCabe. That could mean years and years in the wilderness.

UTB

We `are` currently in the wilderness-bouncing along doing a bit now and then, winning a couple then losing a couple.
If all this comes to pass with the black man then all the work put into building a `promotion potential` team in the summer has gone up in flames.
If wilson walked then who would blame him?His signing-gone in 6months?after penning a two year contract?
And philliskirk terminating contracts-miller injured-porter on walkabout-and kitson looks as fit as gazza.
A friggin shambles.

We all know that United have been a selling club over recent years but that doesnt mean that every decision has to be purely down to money and suggestions that McCabe will somehow get cash back from player sales are wide of the mark in my opinion. Let's wait and see what happens before everyone goes off on one - then we can debate whether it's as dire as some people believe.

Well said, but I'd want an inflated fee plus two useful players signed shortly after - and absolutely not on-loan.

So the odds of me coming out happy if he's sold are slim. :)

My feelings are clear. I was not keen on Blackman in the early days. Thought he was billy big time in his attitude when he had basically never even been small time (how many clubs and pretty rubbish ones all over the UK on loan without properly establishinh himself). However, daft as it sounds he grew on me. He showed real confidence, scored goals and took responsibility (some say greedy but he often in games was the only one shooting or creating).

He has real ability and can use both feet. He also did not sulk when played wide and actually got even better. He has slipped recently but so has the rest of the team.

For me he has been our player of the season (not saying much) and one of the few capable of playing higher up.Like when quinny went and many said good riddance; he would be sorely missed (at least in terms of where we are at the moment - shows how poor we have fallen that he would be such a loss). To me selling him would be as good as saying we aint going up. We may aswell flog Maguire/Long and go the whole hog as we will bobble along around 8th -12th and then watch us further decline until eventually we fall into the abyss of the bottom tier.

United always have and always will accept the fast buck. 500K for Blackman (wont be much more) now will have them giddy. Never mind if we keep him for a few months we might (say might as demise has set in) get promotion and make that money overnight in a few months. The mismanagment of the club is frightening and it goes beyond this one potential sale. This is happening every window/every year. The club basically may aswell put up the shutters if it continue to act so timidly. Some may say without sales we would not survice but come on the way we are going we may not survive in 10-15 years with the current decline anyway?

There is no forward thinking and the club gets what it deserves. It amuses me he how us the fans are blamed at times on message boards (not necessairly this one) and its all our fault as we dare to stamp and moan. You know what we should be stamping and moaning. We have paid a fortune to watch this club and all we get is let down. Many who have had enough will just stop going (if this season as I expect peters out) but some like me wont stop going. We keep going in the hope that it may turn around and you go as you are a fan. It is getting to the point where we are being trated like utter mugs. I am amazed over the last few years that McCabe has got way without so much as a peep from fans at games (not advocting such a protest but surely we have to vent some kind ofall anger at his reign which is turning from a car wreck into utter destruction of the football club).

By the way whether Blackman goes or not; we know that someone will go in the next week so it matters little. This club seems like it will never change. A shame. Its got great fans who are very patient in my opinion but all they get is let downs.

amen mate.. did anyone hear that mug on P or G going on about how great mccabe was because he bought Beattie ten years ago.. was it his son??

Hear, hear DB.

Tough one to call this until we see the state of the squad on Feb 1. Blackman has undoubtedly helped us gain points we wouldn't have got. Orient away I remember being a 0-0 all the way up to his moment of quality that won it. While he's done a decent job out wide I don't think anyone could say we couldn't improve on him in that position, even from what's available in this league.

While it might appear this is a board decision to cash in quick, some things that make me hopeful that this isn't disastrous is that clubs do tend to overpay in the January transfer window, and with the cash Palace are getting for Zaha we should be in a reasonable bargaining position. The other angle is DW's input. He's been saying for weeks that he has players lined up should anyone leave, and that certain players could be doing more at the mo. It's quite possible that he thinks the players he could bring in with Blackman's exit will make us stronger overall.

Happy to wait and see what happens. But assuming no adequate replacements, this could be a terrible move...

With Blackman, Philliskirk and Porter all leaving, I reckon we're making room for a new signing. A striker. A good one...

Craig Beattie has been released by St Johnstone....

So we're now selling the players we're trying to rebuild with?

It's little wonder supporters become so apathetic towards this club and football in general. Going nowhere this season or for a good while longer. Any tiny glimmer of hope I had has just been extinguished by this.....I was getting into the frame of mind to settle for the playoffs, we don't stand a chance of even achieving that now.

If I could believe for one minute that we're selling him for a decent price I could reluctantly accept it, but we all know that at best we have probably got back what we paid for him. Rubbish.
Which is why the blades will remain in the doldrums for a long time, maybe for all time.
