Clearly emotions are running high including mine. I feel like ive been cheated of the opportunity to watch a player in our shirt that genuinely makes you gasp at times with sheer brilliance. Not only that he has athleticism, heart, fight and chases lost causes all over the pitch. I loved watching my sons reaction and smile, seeing him wriggle out of an impossible tight space with a touch of class rarely seen. My head knows it makes financial sense, if we can't make a huge gamble on him being the difference in staying up or not and leaving for free then we need to selll, but I'm heartbroken and that weighs the heaviest right now.

If he's contracted to us, and we name him in the squad for a game, then if he doesn't he's breaching his contract. Of course we can make him play.

We can't make him play well, no. But as a professional playing badly isn't gonna get him a good move, is it?

You’re being extremely naive. We cannot force him to play, regardless of whether we want to name him in the squad for a game. Marseille will still want him regardless of how poorly he plays for us. He can down tools if he really wants to and the only side of the argument effected will be us.

So that would have to have been before the Slav season, when he hadn't kicked a ball. Not sure this has been thought through much.
So why did we give him such a short contract when paying peanuts? Prince was waxing lyrical about him as soon as we got him signed up. That's where it all went wrong. 5 year deal when nobody had heard of him would have prevented this shitshow.

Okay, that's fair.

Make him sign a contract before he plays (like the first contract), if he doesn't sign one he doesn't have a platform to get this move to Marseille (or any other club). Tell him no matter what his contract situation is, if we get a bid to the value of what we believe he's worth, we'll let him go. Then the rest is on him.

We look after you, you look after us. After all, nobody else gave him that shot after he was playing for Boreham Wood (he wasn't great for them, either btw).
The player and his agent hold all the cards mate , so we let him rot in the U23’s and not get the 13-30 million (depending on who you believe) we will be getting now?

Lets give every unknown quantity a 5 year deal. Nothing could go wrong there.

There are so many.stupid questions on this thread from angry people who are understandably emotional but not wuite sure what or who with

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If the board really did offer him the biggest contract in the club’s history and he still didn’t want to stay, I don’t think we can criticise them too much.

The debate around accepting a below market-value fee now rather than letting him run his contract down is a different one though.

I hope the fee is a sizable one and not the reported one.

That's fair enough. But at least freeze him out of pre-season and tell the fans why its happening.

He's played every friendly, just to fuck off to Marseille.

But you said him and his agent refused to sit down and talk about a new contract, so how could it have been the biggest contract in our history.
Would we have been offering him the best contract the club has offered 12 months ago?
Of course they are going to sit down and look at our offer at this stage.

Was another year in the prem guaranteed if he stayed?
Can Illiman do it in the prem?

No, but you deal on percentages. Losing Ndiaye will more likely than not cost us more in 24/25 TV money on average than what the transfer fee is worth, simple as. As for your second question, I can only assume you've not watched us recently

Seen all Illy’s games in pre-season.Same old Illy, best player on the pitch giving his all.
United have pissed about with his contract. We should have had him signed up way before Marseilles came in for him.He was happy here, moved to a new house. It was our failure to offer him the contract he deserved earlier, which Marseilles capitalised on.If we had signed him up earlier, this wouldn’t be happening now.Gross negligence on our part.

The suggestion is that this situation has developed very quickly i.e. the last 24 hours. Before that the thought seemed to be that he was staying. Freezing him out would only have been negative in that regard.

Any mistakes the club made with IN were made years ago.

Don’t blame the club. And it’s hard when it feels like a kick to the knackers, naturally want to lash out at someone/something.

Big few weeks now. With some positivity incomings the club has the chance to help the fans bounce back.

We tried to negotiate a new contract but his agent said he wasn’t interested. Which bit of that are you struggling with?

Do you know how long Marseille have been speaking to his agent for?

Are you aware of these players that are supposedly incoming in the next few days and do they excite you?

One thing is we need to look at this hopefully the same way as Brooks being sold. If it goes on refreshing the rest of the squad in some key positions then it's a positive to come out of this. Especially that left side of the team.

The sheff Utd Way boys seem to have been in contact with the Prince this evening...

"Fee over the one reported"
Above the "14.5 million reported"
"20% sell on with matching rights"
"Multiple players coming in"

worth a watch...

All fine and dandy but:

How much is more than the reported £14.5m?
Multiple players coming in could mean fk all? 6 PL proven players to give us a fighting chance? 6 Conference league players to make up the numbers?

It’s all relative really isn’t it?

He would maybe be another Lundstam then , OM would still get him for nowt next year and the reason we are keeping him (to help keep us up) wouldn’t happen either!
Thing is numbnuts wilder kept playing lundstram 🤷

That the club made mistakes in the past does not prevent them from making mistakes now

It does seem like the horse bolted on this one many years ago. Just annoying we were led to believe otherwise.
