I don’t mind Nicko, but this feels like a story about a price made up by the media now not being able to be met due to a fresh price made up by the media.

Seems to me that Marseille are the patsys in all this. Intermediaries leading them to believe one price is attainable to get the bidding going only to find out it isn’t but by that stage negotiations are underway.

In truth, I doubt they have the cash to make this one purchase at a price United would seem any use whatsoever, especially so close to the season beginning.

Look who they have bid for - Auba on a free, Lodi 13m, Sarr 13m, Malinowskyi 10m, Kondogbia 8m.

They aren’t in for 20-30m bids. They’re hoping to get a handful in the 10m range on average.

Ndiaye had been allowed to talk to Marseille and wanted to go. £17m was a stumbling block. It had fallen through. Then it was a done thing because of a dispute over a release clause meaning he wouldn't sign with us. Then he was going in 24 hours. Now there never actually was any communication between the clubs at all and we want double what Marseille never even offered in the first place?

Difference with Berge is he’s already paid a decent amount. Ndiaye is still on 4/5k a week so may be tempted by a huge increase now.
