I maintain that we can’t compete with 95% of PL teams financially, so we have to be much more resourceful. Premier League teams with £100m+ budgets are possibly overlooking gems in less fashionable leagues. Anel is a clear example of a smart recruitment strategy at its best. It won’t always work of course, but given our situation I think it’s a very sensible approach.
The moneybags clubs can afford to be lazy with it these days: let teams like us do the scouting and take the risks on potential hidden gems, then they can just wait a year and pay over the odds for the ones that work out.

At the very least - mistakes are less costly if the outlay is £2-5 mill. Not £20m and you get more bites at the Apple

You’d argue we haven’t really seen ‘Brighton/Brentford’ like returns on investment on any of our big money purchases.

Mcburnie (this season will be big for him)
Brewster (beset by injury)
Ramsdale (half a good season and a small profit)
Berge - solid and we don’t go up without him - ( but for 20m…)
Moose (good then abysmal )
Robinson and Freeman - (may as well have lit the money on fire )

It’s no real surprise that a different strategy has been sought

Also, and this is often overlooked, we’ve bought players we feel we can develop. At this price, you buy raw attributes and back that you can mould them together.

Very good point

I've watched a few of his highlights reels, and the more I watch them, the more exciting I'm getting about this lad.
Pace, unselfish, takes a good pen, great name, should compliment NDIAYE and fast attacks,
What's not to like 👌⚔️

I mean I know things could be better, but 95% implies every other club. Would like to think we could outspend at least Luton
TBH the reason I didn’t say 100% was down to Luton. Should probably check my maths

I’ve just watched The New Saints v Hacken in a Champions League qualifier on S4C.

All I can say is I really hope he is better than his former team mates.

One thing that absolutely cannot be denied, is how well Heckingbottom and co. coach individuals into being better players.

We've seen it with Foderingham, Baldock, Bogle, Anel, Robinson, Lowe, RND, Norwood, Berge, Doyle, McAtee, Ndiaye and McBurnie.
Each one of them markedly improved under this management, even on their form under Wilder (where applicable).

If the player has something and they're willing to put in the work, they do seem able to get a tune out of them.

Agree I think. Our 20m gambles were guys who were further on in their careers (at least mcburnie and Brewster had scored championship goals) and you'd have thought less risky. It didn't work out sadly. I think I prefer to do it this way - at least the club is less exposed. Who knows - maybe last times gambles pay out this season.

Really looking forward to this season now.

I’ve just watched a YouTube dubstep compilation and I can tell you he is the Hellmans mustard

Another 5/6 of these please

I'd say more hip hop instrumental but eggs is eggs

Looks like he fancies himself when charging at a defence and loves a counter, has a bit of close ball control at speed. Him and Illi could have a good partnership.

McB better be doing his sprinting drills. Poor bastards gonna be knackered
