Chris Wilder is reminding me very much of Adrian Heath's glorious leadership. Seems torn in terms of tactics so mashes up two and sticks with the same players, and when things are going wrong, not a clue what to do about it (apart from spending money). I thought there were no round pegs in square holes? I can see several. Things aren't working yet nothing changes.

4-4-2 clearly doesn't fit these players. They didn't play it in pre-season. Has he really chucked pre-season away due to Leon bloody Clarke?

Defence, as a unit, absolutely not good enough. I'm not convinced any one of them is.
Midfield. 2 in the centre is not working. It didn't last season or the one before. Done is not a winger. Duffy can't last a game. Fleck watched balls fly high over his head. Basham has nothing other than the enthusiasm of a bouncy dog. Sharp and Clarke cannot play together. Clarke can't hold the ball up so needs to play in a two. Billy has not got the pace to play alongside someone knocking it on.

Utter fucking mess. I'm not convinced there's enough money in the world to make this manager successful at this stage.

Very, very worrying.

Agreed, I can not believe we have signed Leon Fucking Clarke to play with Sharp, it's as if Wilder has just looked at the League One top scorers list and thought "what could go wrong?"

nothing against Clarke but we didn't need a bloody striker but now it is as though CW feels obliged to play him. we need a keeper and a centre back.. i can imagine the conversations in the board room.
fans are getting worried Kev
ah just buy somebody
but grant, morsey, mcfadzean, killgallon, burn (etc. insert name here) don't want to come here
this clarke guy is available cheap buy him..

I still think our most pressing issue is in CM. We're losing midfield and the defence isn't coping and neither is the keeper. It all stems from losing midfield though.

He needs to play one upfront until it's sorted.

How McNulty can't get a look in when the two on the pitch are hugely underperforming is beyond me, Sharp is getting very frustrated with us playing the long balls all the time that he's stopped chasing lost causes, something which he is normally pretty good at. It's all very worrying and quite frankly fucking awful.

So.....

Tonight, Wilder has been compared to Heath, Adams and Weir.....

Knee jerk much?

If he starts blaming the Board he'll be out by October.

It just, at the moment, feels the same. We are currently in the same position as well.

H's certainly nothing like Weir or Adkins.

Clarke was man of the match v Rochdale and most fans agreed he was one of the few trying tonight. If anyone wants dropping up there its Billy. As for the partnership, Clarke played with Pope last season for many of their games and Clarke scored 18 goals for a poor side. Clarke and Sharp can work, once we get service to them, that's the problem. As it stands there's nothing from the wings, other than an occasional ball from the much maligned Hussey. Wilder is truing to sign a forward with pace he's already said that and when he does I'd expect a change in formation to accommodate that player. Right now its just not working but lets give it time.

His win percentage is worse!

Its early doors but Blade or no Blade.Honest or not; we look awful.

We may improve but at the moment he is deserving of criticism. If Adkins had presided over that tonight he would have got hammered. 6 of those are his players too.

Indeed - posted yesterday - if he can't get on with the shambolic display of Saturday and now tonight, then he might as well pack his bags.

UTB

The last thing we need is another forward.

Central midfield is woeful. There is little to no width. The defence is poor, the keeper is terrible.

If he's pricking about wasting time buying another forward who won't get the ball...well, I despair.

He said he wants a forward with pace mate. Personally I agree with you that we need other areas sorting first.

Can Clarke play as a loan striker though? He can't hold the ball up and there's no one to run-on to flick-ons.

Difficult to say mate at this stage. I think he can hold the ball up personally. Not like the Chief but he would be better suited to a 4-5-1 then Sharp in my view. That's if we go down the 4-5-1 route etc.

I have a vague memory of this, so might be wrong. Was he upfront on his own for Wednesday?

We need a strong hard CM before anything, instead of Basham.

No Wilder is going to keep hoofing it in true Sheffield style

What have Wilkinson, Warnock, Megson, Adams, Eustace and Wilder got in common

There all from Sheffield and they all prefer hoofball. It's as primitive as it gets but good enough for the good old Sheffield public eh.

Thought this was gonna say he’s died. Doesn’t look far off to be fair.

he was in charge for one of our worst games in history, Oldham at home I think it was, I was there, diabolical, he got the sack after it I think? I was young so maybe wrong.

Think you are referring to Port Vale at home. Lost 3-1 in front of about 9000. We were then bottom of Championship (or League Division 2 as it was then called). Heath resigned immediately after game (not sacked I think). Warnock appointed as manager. At that time he was managing Bury. All the Bury fans said they were glad to get rid of him. He signed Michael Brown from Man City and so started the great Warnock era which took us into the EPL.

My abiding memory of that awful game was our right back (who’s name escapes me), delivering a cross from the byline in front of the South Stand which duly landed in Row Z of the Kop - to collective groans and boos from all 9,000!

I seem to remember a young Anthony Gardner scoring for them in that match. Someone gave my dad tickets to the players bar, he took me in and not a single United player turned up. When we left, sky were interviewing heath on the stairs and asked him how he felt about being sacked, me and my dad were bouncing around on the stairs above, my dad then got interviewed in the car park by Kammy.

Cool story bro 😅

I love threads like this being resurrected. Given we lost our next game as well, I'm surprised it didn't get another boost after Millwall. Who'd have thought Sharp would get 30 and Kieran Freeman would be 2nd highest goalscorer with 11 from full back.

Division 1 wasn’t it? Thought it was Prem, Division 1, 2 & 3?
