James McAtee

McAtee will have a great career.

If the season had gone on another few months he'd have probably got 15 goals and 10 assists (similar to Ndiaye). It took him a while to find his feet but once he did, he was excellent.

He's a matchwinner, he produces in big moments.
Great footwork, lovely balance, calm finisher.
They're extremely difficult players to find.

However, I don't think a loan move to a club starved of the ball is likely to be the best move for either party.
Much as I enjoy watching him play.

I can see why city might not want him in a relegation dog fight.

But to be honest - In the PL you’ve essentially got people chasing Europe and people fighting relegation. And even that can flip for season to season - look at West Ham. Would a top 10 side be interested would he be a starter?

Say Brighton (for example) were interested- no guarantee hes starting or that they are even any good next year.

I May be biased but if it was me I’d send him to the side where he’s guaranteed to be starting most games and who’ve shown they know how to use him.

with the possesion were likely to get in the premier league think the only position he could play for us is in a 2 with illiman in behind the main striker

I would like to think it would go along way with Pep if both our club and James want to continue to make it happen foe another year.

I get the argument about McAtee being better suited for us in the Championship because we had more of the ball but I can’t help but think that part of the reason for our downfall in the Prem last time was a side mostly made up of players bang average at Premier League level. Very few were capable of beating players and most of the team caved under pressure. I don’t want us to go down the route of just prioritising energy and solidity and not going for a game-breaking talent like McAtee, particularly when you consider we’ll also be playing the likes of Fulham, Bournemouth, Wolves and others who I’d hope aren’t going to be schooling us. IMO the gap between the Champ and the bottom of the Prem is as close it’s been for a while.

Just seen this.

I can’t see a genuine “leading club” taking him and actually giving him the time on the pitch he needs. A wonderful talent, but so much more to learn.

Germany could be really good for him. But failing that, a low to middling premier league outfit. If a skinny young David Brooks could excel at Bournemouth then McAtee can do similar.

Can't they just let us have him till January and see how it goes....

But I can see why they'd want something different for him and I don't think he'll be coming back now. Somewhere like Frankfurt or Leverkusen might be his destination

All City may be willing to do with us is a permanent deal for Doyle..... which could work out great as we'd still have 2 PL loans to use in addition

Could Man City be giving us a different hot prospect on loan instead of McAtee...

I somehow believe we'll end up with Doyle on loan, though personally I'd prefer McAtee
i think you may be right looking like city lining up a move to the bundesliga for mcatee so doubt we will see him again in a united shirt and think we will take doyle on loan with a view to buy just wonder if we might go for diallo as our 2nd prem loan

The way that is worded doesn’t half look dumb.

We know the rules only allow one loanee from a club so we’re going to ask anyway but the chances are slim.

The chances are none of bringing the both back.

What the article should be focusing on is the fact we would have to sign Doyle permanently and Man City are expected to ask for X but Sheffield United have to work to 20m for all signings not just Doyle.

How hard would it have been just to have put that context to it?

How much do City actually want? Does anyone know?

They talk as if the fact Man City want a buy back is also an issue. There's no chance in a million years Doyle will ever be good enough to play for them now so it shouldn't even be a thought. Get the initial payment down as low as possible and say yeah of course you can buy him back for £30m if it ever gets to that stage.

i think we could do similar deals for obrien and doyle 5m and add ons for obrien 8m and add ons for doyle

Might not necessarily ever be good enough for them but his value might one day exceed the buy-out clause. In which case, they might call him back to sell him on..

I can understand them not fancying loaning Mcatee as we’re going to be on the back foot a lot of the time but Doyle one is weird. Will he have any premier league suitors other than maybe Burnley? Or do they want a sale and we’re obviously skint?

Considering they're in the process of selling a GK that hasn't ever played above L1 for £19m, I think it's fairly safe to assume the asking price will be very high and too rich for Utd.

I suspect they may revisit it I'm a few weeks' time as a potential loan if he doesn't go elsewhere, Utd are still in need of an additional midfielder and still have a loan spot available.

I think they’d probably like a sale given his age and where he’s at in his career. When you consider last summer they sold a bunch of his academy team mates and this summer it seems like they’re doing the same it looks like they’re clearing the decks in their under 21’s to give game time to the next crop coming up.

I did wonder if the U21 championship would boost Doyle's profile and he would be going into on the back of great form for us. But he has not gotten minutes and I don't see any other Prem team taking him on, while he would go straight into our line up in a key role for us. Would seem the ideal move for all concerned, so especially frustrating if it is not going to happen.

Its McAtee who we would prefer out off the 2 and it’s him we are holding one off our premier league loans for hoping city will come round to the idea. It might change and we might go in for Doyle late in the window if we get a definite no on McAtee or maybe even try permanetly if berge goes but if I had to put money on it I don’t think we will see Doyle in a blades shirt next season which is disappointing.
