Doyle did that, on paper. Though perhaps we were more flexible in that period.

Don't think we can say Berge played central in a 3, can we?
At the end of the season we played a lot of games with a 5-2-2-1 or 5-2-1-2 formation. Berge was often one of two holding midfielders (with Doyle) and did well.

Norwood had a good start to the season, but lost form during the winter. We improved after Doyle took his place, and actually won all games Norwood didn't start last season.

Cheers Bergen Blade

I'm willing to say we were both right HeCanDoMagic but that I was MORE right. 😄👍

I'm also a Berge fan, by the way.
But we've got a large sample size of minutes now to know what he can and can't do. He's never done well in that deep central role. He's never looked solid defensively.

He has looked good when attacking full backs dropping the shoulder and moving through the gears unexpectedly. He has got a great pass / cross in him, he keeps possession very well and he can be a goal threat (though he should score more).

He's also incredibly inconsistent and plays well in patches. Usually at the beginning and ends of seasons when the ground is firmer.

I don't think he's irreplaceable and I really worry about letting too many walk on frees next Summer. Sell him and bring a couple in.
I find it incredible to think that it's the physical side of defending that Norwood is better at, which is crazy, he's built like my daughter.
I suppose it comes down to him reading the oppositions attacking play better but Berge couldn't nip in, breakup play, even tackle the way Oli can.

What do we really get from Sander? We use fancy adjectives like coasts, sublime, silky, effortless but while he does have class in the basic areas- he really only beats men out wide and crosses.
He does it well, very well at times, but if he was smaller, English, cost £500k and was labeled a winger, we wouldn't think he was pulling up any trees. A lot of wingers can do what he currently offers.

Yes, there's more to come. I think he might step up as the opposition do, and the styles suit him more, but as of last season he's not un-droppable or unsellable.

The problem with Berge in the deepest position is footwork as much as anything, and his reluctance to take it onto his left side

Defensively he's been quite good pretty much all year, a lot of disciplined and tidy performances. But they haven't been when playing in the middle of a 3

Norwood is good at most things when he's not forced to run longer distances. His lack of pace isn't too big a problem over short distances. He reads the game, executes a tackle well and gets his foot on the ball.

But he's been taken off a few times when we're going for an equaliser/winner, pushing players forward and taking risks. He's very vulnerable when it comes to keeping up with, let alone catching up with runners when the opposition counter attacks. Although Berge is a poor tackler, he's not bad in those situations.

We haven’t seen him playing his position yet, so far he has played majority of his time out of position.

it might well be that he isn’t good enough at his natural position for us but so far we have been judging him on how well he has been playing in that out of position

He'd have to learn how to head the ball and tackle an opponent
To an extent he may need to improve but the prem league will be a bit more cultured, there will be less need to play the good old English lower league/pub league get stuck in to em

Getting your foot on the ball and what you do with it will be far more important

Back to Kamara, I enjoyed a YouTube highlights reel.

Also watched some Rangers fans discussing him in Sept 2022. They said he was brilliant in Europe (run to Europa final) but seemed bored domestically.

Who wouldn't be in that terrible league.

So we are interested in a player who can’t get into a Scottish premier league team to the tune of 4m?
He's shit, and he would arrive without a solitary ripple of enthusiasm from any Sheffield United fan anywhere.......... of course the club is interested

Who was our last money spent on? Why are you inventing this view that we only buy unexciting mediocrity?

Are you excited about it ?
To be honest mate people like you are sucking the joy out of it completely

Spent all last season having to read about how shit everything Sheffield united is and how we always fuck things up that I'm seriously contemplating just walking away all together

If you can't enjoy a season like that where the club has just been saved from oblivion then it doesn't augur well for a what would be a more typical season for a blades fan

I hardly post anymore to be honest
Just a bit of sarcasm here and there

But Kamara is shit, maybe I got user to watching a Celtic midfield plow through him as though he wasn't there and then watch middling European teams plow through Celtic as though they weren't there, I wonder how Kamara would ever be a Premier League player this year, or even Championship player next year

I don't think there's anything in this anyway, it's probably just from the old link under Wilder. We know money for permanent players is low and I can't see it being spent on a player who seems to have lost his way a little although I like the idea of getting him back to peak form but that's a risk.

Here, here could not agree more. Some people enjoy being miserable,it’s a fact of life and love typing their bile out on a keyboard.

Only the 3rd poster I've put on ignore, after Steg and Fallow 🤷🏼‍♂️

Jesus Christ, what has our fanbase become? Turning our noses up at players like Coady and Kamara? Make no mistake, we are competing to finish above 3 teams next year and if we can pick both of these up for less then £10m total, then they represent an upgrade in both ability and experience.

Unless a billionaire springs out of nowhere, we have to try negotiate the league in a smarter way. Looking for bargains and the loan market. I’m absolutely fine with that, if we can use the funds to sweep the decks and upgrade the club’s facilities and academy. We’ll hopefully be in a better position for it.

Hi Stegosaurus here

I agree. No need for negativity. We're in the Prem

Yes, the prince is skint, we can't afford new players, our team is full of has beings, our defence is slow, our strikers can't score, Barry Bannon is sticking with Wednesday rather than joining us, our team finished bottom last time we were in the Premier League, Ndiaye may be snapped up by a bigger club and our keeper is League One level.

But that's no need for negativity

What are you, the People's Front of Judea?

As far as I understood, he was their best midfielder for a good while and then for whatever reason fell out of favour with the manager.

It happens. Look at Coutts. If he was a target when we were last up, and still only 27, then why not now? At least he is mobile, which not all our midfielders can claim.

Just let people say whatever they want. I skip past the boring miserable fucks anyway.

Having watched the lifeless celebrations from Man City fans in Istanbul let me support my beautiful shit team and enjoy the roller coaster ride.
