Thought it would be interesting / irritating to keep tabs on all the various players we've been linked with this Summer thus far in newspapers, forums and on social media platforms and their respective outcomes.
Milan Misun (LB / CB) - rumours confirmed by Wilson but United pulled the plug on the deal due to concerns about the player's fitness.
Tommy Lee (GK) - According to one or two respected ITK's on Blades Mad, United have made speculative enquiries about Tommy Lee but Chesterfield's valuation didn't match our own and we faced potential competition from other clubs for Lee's signature.
Dusan Pernis (GK) - Newspaper talk in Scotland had us linked with ex-Dundee stopper Pernis a few weeks ago. The Slovakian is out of contract and is now rumoured to be interesting Bolton.
David Wotherspoon (RB / utility) - lined up as potential replacement for Lowton
Stuart Beavon (striker) - Twitter rumours circulated like wildfire that Beavon had actually signed for us at the end of June which proved false. Wilson has yet to confirm whether we are in for the player who has began pre-season with Wycombe.
Francois Zoko (striker) - Another player that United were supposedly on the verge of signing but Wilson later denied that we were interested.
Sam Baldock (striker) - Early pre-season forum speculation at the end of May which always seemed far-fetched. Baldock is likely heading to a Championship club imminently having fallen down the pecking order at West Ham.
Jermaine Johnson (winger) - Forums and Twitter were awash with speculation that Johnson was to cross the divide in mid-June only for him to sign a new contract with Wednesday.
Gary Kenneth (CB) - Out of contract at Dundee United - sources north of the border has us linked with him earlier in the summer. The 24-year-old has turned out for Airdre in pre-season but remains unattached.
John Coffie (striker) - Finally signed for United on a season-long loan after much speculation.
Darryl Westlake (full-back) - Not previously linked with the former Walsall right back until SKY Sports revealed Wilson's interest. Signing seemed to take an age to complete but now Westlake is confirmed as a Blade.
Dennis Schulpp (striker) - Wilson is a confirmed admirer of Schulpp and would like to bring him to S2 on loan. Rumours suggest this could be close to happening but Schulupp has began pre-season with his parent club (Leicester). Watford and Palace are also thought to be monitoring him.
Shaun Miller (striker) - Linked with United last season and Wilson is widely anticipated to seal the signing of the player imminently. His signature has but been confirmed by press sources in Staffordshire.
Nelson Delfounso (striker) - Speculation was rife that he was the 'Premiership' striker that Wilson was looking to bring to the club and some believed he was going to be the make weight in the Lowton deal. It has since transpired that Wilson had his eye on Man Utd's John Coffie so it seems unlikely that Delfounso will be heading to Bramall Lane anytime soon.
Lewis Grabban (striker) - Was all set to sign according to a poster on Blades Mad but ended up signing for Bournemouth. Once again internet rumours appeared wildy off the mark.
Tony McMahon (defender) - Journalist Paul Walker has said that United are in for Middlesbrough's McMahon, who has also attracted interest from Wigan and Swansea. Wilson has refused to comment on the rumours however according to McMahon's sister on Twitter Tony is now a Blade. We await official confirmation, however.
Have I missed any? What does this say about the reliability of the internet? Does it show that the club are adept at keeping its cards to its chest, or not?
