£20m

Not going to be a popular post (nothing new) but if this our budget then we will be relegated.

We would therefore be better selling Berge & Ndiaye, if we can get £35-£40 million then the budget could be say an extra £15 million to sign players hopefully who will be able to achieve promotion in the first season we are down as well as adding £20 million to cover costs of running the club.

The alternative is let them leave on a free and also being relegated.

Is this figure of £20m true and is It just purchases, subsequently leaving more money available for loans and signing on fees?
no one knows, so why get upset about something that has not been confirmed.

Things change quickly in football too. The budget may well be zero right now but thats not to say it will be in August when Dozy slips us a cool £600m

20 million we should all be grateful that he has dipped in to his pocket to fund the war chest

#thankyouprince

Doyle £10m plus add ons
O Brien loan with a view to buy in Jan
Sam Johnston £1m or Darlow £2m
McAtee loan
Only spent £11-12m 4 starters.
Not as grim as some think !
As ever UTB!
On what planet do you think we're getting Johnstone for £1m?

The bit that bothers me is how this story seems to suggest this suddenly means we'll therefore HAVE to give Sharp a new contract. No matter what happens this summer, we have to clear out the desd wood and bring in a new younger set of players with resale value. I love Billy and I'd happily let him stay on a much, MUCh smaller contract as a player coach.if he loves United that much he'll accept that he's not going to play next season.

I do also have to say that this has once again come from Alan Nixon. Where does this prick get his info from and why does it always seem to be negative stuff?

Not played all season , back up keeper , you never know , ok Darlow £2m
Maybe woodman £2m If you look around you can find players , Anel ??
As ever UTB !

Hopefully we do the opposite to Wilder and pay more for wages for a few quality Prem players than spunk on low wage and 1 £20m championship player .. A few experienced legs coupled with a team that’s been there before and been together for a while possibly could help us stay up (trying to be optimistic).

£20m for transfer fees is still a lot of money for most championship teams and we already have a fairly decent core team to challenge the lesser teams in the PL next season. If we can find 2 or 3 bargains and a few out of contract player's who are wanting to achieve something then I dont think it's as bad a situation as some on here are making it out to be. Yes we might still go down (and I could see the merit in accepting a acceptable bid for Ndiaye or Berge if one was received so that we don't lose them both for nowt if we go down) but I think we will be competitive still. The teams at the bottom of the Pl are no great shakes. Worse case scenario, we spend £20m on players and bring in some quality free transfers, lose some old guard and pay off existing debts, and next season in the Championship we are set fair with a very good team for that level. Some on here clearly worry about what colour their shit will be next morning.

I remember last time we went up and some were saying we wouldn't spend a bean. That was bullshit as well.

If this is true then the starting point should be to get Doyle on loan and accept McAtee won't be coming back

Then we'll still at least be able to put together a competitive first 11

Already asked this on other threads but this sounds exactly the sort of level for fees that we would be spending so I don’t get the shock.
What were people genuinely expecting us to spend on fees this summer?

It’s entirely logical for us to focus a lot of our efforts in the loan market as we’re not saddled with high fees if it doesn’t work out or we go down. Should we stay up and players perform we can make them perm then when a larger chunk of change has been secured.

All in all, it’s a sensible approach given the romantic overspending of last time and the precarious position it put us in. Of course we can always hope we get someone with more money than sense (or just who wants to spend more than they’ll ever make) and blows it all out the water.

On top of the transfer budget, don’t forget most of the first team squad salaries double, once were in the Premier League 🤨

If we accept that this is figure, would you sell Berge and/or Ndiaye or let the contracts run out?

This makes no sense. Sell 2 of our best players for 40m, to add an extra 15m on the budget and two players that need replacing?

If we have a budget of £20 million we are unlikely to stay up so by keeping them we get fuck all as they are out contract, get relegated, have no money to replace them and cannot afford to run the club.

Seems to make sense to me

But your saying, sell two players for 40mill. 40+20 = 60mill. We still need to replace 40mil worth of players which won't be cheap, its not a good argument in my eyes.

The situation is shit. If the players had even 1 year longer on their contracts I would agree but if we are so skint, we cannot write off £40 million (we may also get lucky with the replacement players)

I’m shocked if its 20 million if I’m been honest, let’s wait and see. Even more surprised we’ve gone public and told everyone how much money we have to spend.
