I have no doubt that if he goes to a League One side next season he'll get double figures. However, he is demonstrably losing his effectiveness against second tier defences and to keep him next season in a playing capacity will be a decision wholly based on sentimentaliy rather than football.

What makes you think he is going to be a great coach? Very many top players don’t cut it as coaches. Has he done his coaching badges?

He’s been doing that for years, hasn’t he. I don’t think it’s any sort of elite coaching set up.

My point is, as much as he’s been a great & inspirational player for us, we want the best possible coaches who are here on merit, not out of sentiment. We don’t want to end up with a Frank Lampard type. I’d be happy if he starts off with the younger academy kids, if that’s what he wants to do, and proves himself.
