Based on this season only, I can only think of one English manager who might rank above Hecky. Eddie Howe is the only one who can claim a season even close to what Hecky has achieved. So if Southgate was to be sacked and Howe didn’t want the job, could Hecky be the next England manager?
Whilst that would be an incredible achievement for Hecky, I would hate to lose him to anyone, including England.

Good god, England manager ffs. Well I'd say Schumacher at Plymouth has done a better job without a doubt, wellens at Leyton orient on a par, Gary oneill at Bournemouth has done a brilliant job keeping them up equally as good.

You think Southgate is more qualified than Hecky for the England job?

I get that he should be far off, but there's that few English manager in the top level, and Southgate was so under qualified for the job then you can't look past Championship mangers that are doing well.

Hes probably more qualified just purely because he's already done it for 5 years or so. Personally I think he's a woeful manager and completely holding a potentially great attacking England side back so much. That's another argument though. Can't argue with heckys points tally, but he's come in and copied a previous managers tactics, mainly with the same team and its worked. We have a good squad, it's got us up even with the injuries because it's a good size with decent championship talent.

People who would get the England job before Hecky:

Eddie Howe
Graham Pottee
Gary O’Neill
Frank Lampard
Steve Gerrard
Sean Dyche
Michael Beale

As a minimum. Being ‘better’ is meaningless, he may/may not be ‘better’ than people on this list. But we all know his name/face wouldn’t fit and wouldn’t be considered.

I’m sure they’d go Carrick ahead of him too.

Football fans can be so fickle! Southgate qualified for the England managers job following the success he'd had at youth level over 4 years, he moulded a new generation at international level and the FA clearly thought he was the best option to carry on that development onto the senior side, since then Southgate has achieved more as England manager than any other except Sir Alf Ramsey.

I love Hecky but he's nowhere near that yet. He's not worked with Elite players and their egos (which Southgate has done a brilliant job with btw).

Assume this is a joke.

Hecky wasn't even nominated for manager of the season.
He had, easily one of the best and biggest squads in the league and was predicted/ expected to reach, at least the play-offs again.
Looking at the bigger picture, in context it's a very good achievement but the tools (players) were already in place.
Some fans of other clubs say we've (kind of) cheated by keeping our top players and it wasn't a fair contest.
Even our own fans have said that N'Diaye was the best player in the league, so if that's the case then you'll always have a chance.

Hecky would struggle to get another job at another Championship club
ad the thought of him at another Premier League club or as England manager is laughable.
Basically there's zero chance of him being poached to a better job anywhere, so we can all relax.

besides, it's next season we'll see how good Hecky really is.

I can just imagine if next season we struggling playing negative football then the same fans dishing out massive praise
will be saying, he's out of his depth and should be sacked. It's the same with N'Diaye, if he struggles in the PL next season
there will be loads saying "why didn't we cash in when we could", "he's never played in the PL so was always going to be a big risk to keep him".

Sometimes it’s better to be thought a fool, than write an essay and prove it.

Southgate has been blessed with an outstanding young squad, particularly in the midfield and forward areas. I think he blew several massive opportunities in recent tournaments through his being overly cautious.

That's easy to say in hindsight, but he was partly responsible for bringing those players through on the international stage, you could argue we wouldn't have had the opportunity without him

I still don’t get why some of our fans don’t think Hecky has done a great job, guess they still must be pining for Wilder?

Look at the state Jokanovic made of it with the same group of players.

Look at the way he’s handled all the off-field stuff, no over the top emotional outbursts that would have given the players an excuse, just maturely managed his way through and dealt with it.

Also his system is much more nuanced than Wilders fixed system, and he’s proved himself more adaptable when it’s been required.

Add to that the respect the players have for him (seemingly more than any manager I can remember save for Warnock) and I can’t see why anyone would pick fault.

As for next season he’ll have a hugely difficult challenge and a very different one to the last time we went up in terms of finance, relegation doesn’t mean he’s a bad manager and I hope we stick with him.

Who the fuck wants to be England manager?

The only chance heckingbottom has of getting the England job is if someone invents a time machine to transport us back to 1897 where his main opposition would be winterbottom , ransbottom , shufflebottom , sidebottom and one or two others with similar sounding names

After losing our Star player which was a blow to the entire club , got to admit this man has not fucked about , leading from the front , signing players , every signing is a risk and no one knows how they will work out , but pull this one off Hecky and keep us up this season after the players we have lost and there is no doubt you will be the No 1 Manager in my life time , and I have seen quite a lot !!

Fair enough mate, but would he get the England job?

In the transfer windows Hecky has impressed me. Anel and the loans last summer and so far this summer he's dealt well. Hopefully more to come.

Good post but events have overtaken you.

In the same vein as our experts writing off McAtee in August last year, I confidently predict the first 'Hecky out' post, today.
