Least painful Wembley defeat ever

No expectations so not disappointed. I had a good day out with my friends and bonus got to say hello to YorkBlade 😄.

Blades fans were great but it is a shit stadium for atmosphere because it's so big.

Does anyone else hate the continual use of feckin music blaring out right up to kick off and at the end of the match? Another Americanism that is taking over our sport. For me it kills the atmosphere because you can't hear the fans.

Our fans were great yesterday but bloody Blue Moon belting out at the end meant you couldn't really hear the ovation they gave the team.

Probably wouldn't go if we got there again, crazy expensive day out and the football experience is better at the lane.

I enjoyed my day. Spent the day with my eldest and met some friends from London I haven’t seen for a while. The football was almost irrelevant. Had a few drinks sang our hearts out and what we knew would happen happened.
Got into a debate with an older City fan about ridiculously wealthy owners ruining the competitive nature of football while negotiating the bloody tube system. Late night curry then staying with family who I again haven’t seen for a while.
All in all an expensive day but a pretty good one

Biggest defeat of the season and couldn’t give a 💩 main event is PL then see what happens to SUFC from there if we go up

Great day out with my lads and grandson. Parked on a drive and was ont M1 within 15 mins lookin at ‘T North signs. Steady drive home back in time for MotD.

Sad given the cost of living crisis stopped a lot from both teams going judging by the empty seats around the stadium and empty “corporate” seats.

Yeah I put a post about that on another thread, what’s the point for 2 northern clubs travelling down to London instead of a neutral ground nearby, ridiculous really.
My day got off to a great start when I met 3 blades fans who were lost on the underground

Not sure they believed I was a Southern blades fan going in his own to wembley but made my journey better chatting with them

I did say that this weekend london will be just full of lost northerners. What a stupid idea making everyone travel down. Especially as Wembley seems to dilute atmosphere.

Disappointed to lose of course, but we had a great day. City fans were friendly and gracious and I enjoyed seeing Blades families together with children wearing full kits all enjoying the experience of simply being at Wembley. Now for the really big one on Wednesday!

Sadly it meant everything to us and absolutely nothing to them.

The recent plastic fans maybe, but I've got a mate who has been a City fan all his life and he was down at Wembley today still as excited as ever.

I agree but FA Cup semi finals have all been played at Wembley (apart from when it was being rebuilt) going back to 1993 when we played the Oinkers there In the all Sheffield semi. The other semi that year was Arsenal v Spurs and the FA said that should be played at Wembley, which made sense with 2 London clubs, and our semi would be at Elland Road. Bearing in mind at that time the Blades had not played at Wembley since (probably) the 1936 Final which we lost to Arsenal, our supporters were desperate to see them play at Wembley. We felt it was totally unfair that the other semi was there and in any case we didn’t want to play at bloody Leeds cos it was Leeds and only had a much smaller capacity. There was a general outcry from our supporters (not sure about the Oinkers) and many of us wrote and complained to Ted Crocker then secretary of the FA. As a result the FA agreed to move the match to Wembley and so far as I know all FA semis have been there ever since -apart from when it was being rebuilt.

While you're right about us asking for the game to be moved to Wembley, semi-finals then returned to neutral grounds until the new Wembley was built and the FA moved all semis there to justify/recover some of the cost of the new ground.

Will the likes of us ever win anything major again?
Not when moneybags clubs like Man City are around.
Yesterday hammered it home to me that the richer you are, the wider the gulf.
It really is killing football.

Wait until Newcastle start spending this summer. For all the banter Spurs get, at least they’re run somewhat sustainably as business and their success isn’t on inflated wages.

It was just a day out for us all if were honest, we were never going to win, and we all knew it, but the hope of some just added to it.
Shame so many of our younger fans are absolutely embarrassing dickheads, that take the shine of an otherwise enjoyable day.

Definitely would have been better if at a Northern neutral ground

Whilst I complete agree, unfortunately the main reason the neutral ground was scrapped was due to demand.

The attendance yesterday was apparently 69k? and the only Stadia in the north of the UK that could hold such a capacity would be Old trafford (74k). We simply dont have the stadia any more for neutral, despite having huge global teams.

No, the reason the semis were moved to Wembley permanently was to allow the FA to recoup some of its massive overspend on the stadium.

Yesterday wasn’t just the least painful Wembley defeat for me, it was probably the least painful Blades defeat full stop. I had a great day, save for when Mahrez was scoring.

City are an amazing team but fckin hell, I thought their fans and the whole atmosphere around their club was totally bizarre. The way they basically just applauded when Mahrez scored the first... surreal.

No jeopardy, no danger of losing 99% of matches, no downs, only ups. Just sterile domination against teams that cost 1/100th of what their team cost to assemble. Is that really what football is all about??

You've got a market and demand, it's all increased revenue isnt it. Neutral venues would have to lead to a ticket ballot of some kind I guess, some would end up unhappy either way.

I know Wembley is huge and as a result, areas may be singing over the pthwr and and potentially not really heard. However at timws in that first half yesterday, I was shocked at just how silent it was... particularly from the opponents who are chasing the treble...I thought they were particularly quiet at times.

Believe me The FA make tonnes more money by using Wembley. It was one of the stated reasons for the switch.
