Unless you get megabucks, I think Yo-Yo is the natural progression from 'Championship Regular'. It needs managing right of course, but parachute money is better than Champ money. Then hope somebody does come in with the big moolah.

If we do go up and then we do come down, we should be coming down with a functioning playing squad and at least some traction on the training ground or Academy.

It almost feels like we need to do a bit of a Norwich first time around.

I work quite frequently at NCFC and they have invested in one of the most state of the art training and academy facilities in the league/s .

However , their supporters ,mostly ,want to shift the balance more towards investment into the first team (not squad) as they saw and feared what is happening this season

There is only so much diluting of first team that can go on before the cracks appear

There’s certainly a case for being a yo-yo club. If you can gamble on your first season in the PL spending little money but staying up you can chuck the kitchen sink at it in the 2nd season…… hang on maybe we’ve tried that before.
Seriously though the money certainly helps from going up so the gap financially can grow between the likes of us/Norwich Burnley on clubs line Preston/Blackburn etc, we’re starting to see divisions within divisions. The top 6 on their own, then you’ve got the mid table premier league sides that flirt with a europa conference place or still look like going down in April, then there’s a select few “yo-yo” clubs that can decide where they want to be.

I enjoy the Championship, I enjoy winning and being competitive, but it seems (financially at least) this is a make or break season so we need some of the EPL moneh!

Norwich this season aren’t a shoe in even for the playoffs and if not then it’ll be interesting how that plays out for them. Yo-yoing is a decent plan until you don’t yo one season then it can be problematic

We’d all love us to turn into Brighton / Brentford over night but in reality that has been put together over a number of years with an unbelievable scouting network & infrastructure.

Norwich are the typical yo-yo club they are also utter wank, a miserable, dull bunch of cheating cunts.

So people assume Norwich = wank, Norwich = yo-yo, therefore yo-yo = wank.

That doesn’t have to be case, a well-managed (financially) club will have to yo-yo for a few years to become established with the big boys.

As a supporter, I don’t mind this at all, I’d rather have a good solid relegation battle followed by a promotion push than years of mediocrity in the Prem finishing 10th to 15th and becoming invisible.

We aren’t Fulham we don’t have the money to do what they have done, we never want to be the scabs or the scum, piss money and still fail.

That leaves 2 choices we yo-yo or we look at Brentford’s business model. They’ve only lost 8 this year, less than Spurs and Liverpool, they have only just opened a cat 4 academy to conform to Prem rules and still manage to run 2 woman’s teams with free entry for fans.

With so many good examples of how to fuck up your first 2 years in the Prem you would think we can make a decent job of becoming established over the next 5 years.

What we've done (if we get promoted) is about on the limit in terms of risk. We've kept all but Ramsdale (who wanted out) out of the 'decent' players from the PL seasons. We are absolutely screwed if we don't go up this season but it seems we've just about got over the line on the risk/reward scale.

Looking at the Premiership Table there is a clear split almost 50/50 this season of teams that could drop vs teams miles safe. Although yeah it would be great to be an established Premiership side or even one that is there longer than a couple of years, getting up and getting the cash is key. I think the board need to seriously look at their long term investment goals. I would rather the club invest £20-30million into a training ground investment, add a few loan signings and look to the long term bringing through the academy players where next time with the books balanced a promotion would be investment in the squad.

We need to think long term with how we invest money in the club. Signing expensive players isn’t the answer to establishing United in the Premier League (not yet anyway).

Investing in the Lane, academy and training ground need to be a high priority to provide a solid foundation that the club can be built on. Get those in place then we can start blowing millions on players

The fact that Leicester will probably get relegated this season says it all. They were genuinely contending to be a top four club, having won the league and fa cup, but the gap is just too big. Over-reach and you're doomed. But do we really want to become a Palace? They are safe as houses every season but so dull and boring. If we could retain the players we have I'd far sooner stay in the championship, way more entertaining. I realize promotion is an economic necessity for us this season but if we do get promoted, it doesn't excite me. The prospect of hanging on for a few 1-0 wins like last time isn't great. So on that basis, go up, get relegated but secure the financial future for the club.

Yo yo while getting a owner with money and better training facilities sounds fine to me.

I've lost track of all the young players we have out on loan with lower league clubs. Would any of these be able to cut it in the Prem? If not, time to get rid (with a sell-on clause in case they do turn out to be valuable players).

Maybe a few of our current youngsters could thrive in the Prem one day, but spotting the real gems from those that merely have 'potential' is the key. Even the best coaches in the game get it wrong. You need a bit of luck to go with judgement.
