I don't think I could love my club anymore than I do and this is why!

Recently I had to return to the UK for a family matter and managed to get three tickets to the Wigan game as my 9 year old daughter has always wanted to go. I got tickets in the family stand and thought that would be a nice place to start. After 15 years away I had forgotten how raucous BDTBL can be but I thought nothing of it, however as the tension was building before the game the noise started to rise as we were close to the Kop and I was loving it.

However this is where I started to realize my mistake, my daughter suffers from anxiety and is very susceptible to loud noises (yes Im an idiot for not thinking about this). I started to notice the warning signs but she was pushing through as she really wanted to be there. She managed to get through GCB but when Ndiaye bagged the opener the noise was too much for her and she broke down, my wife immediately took her to the concourse to if she could find some ear defenders. A lovely steward offered to let her out to go find some and stated he would let them back in (even though he knew he shouldn't).
Here is where an SUFC angel called Nicole stepped in after over hearing the conversation and stated she would see if she could help. She proceeded to not only take my wife and daughter to the Dr pitch side for a check up and some medication for her headache but she then whisked them of to the new Sensory room. Even though we were not even booked in she got my wife and daughter inside to experience the rest of the game. Bean bags, massive thick tinted windows, low lights the absolute works, what a wonderful idea by the club!

So while I was frantically texting my wife asking where were they and I was about to leave to find them I got a text back saying don't worry we are up by the executive boxes in a really nice room and we will see you after the game. :)

Nicole whoever you are we love you for what you did that day and you are a credit to the club, if anyone knows who this young lady is please let her know what she did that day will live with me forever. You take care of my child like that and make her issue your main concern at that moment is so absolutely touching to me, you will forever be in my debt!

...This is why I couldn't love my club anymore than I do!

The club did a video about the room a while back and I couldn’t help but swell with pride about how the club tries to make it an inclusive experience for all fans. Brilliant story for you too. An email to the club praising Nicole, if you haven’t already done it, would be a nice touch.

I remember hearing about the sensory room a short while back. Such a great idea by the club and I'm glad your family had such a good experience. UTB

I have to say the club have been pretty good for years. Quite some time ago a mate thought his kid who was seven or eight at the time would like to experience the Kop instead of where he normally sat in the family stand. It was a particularly febrile atmosphere that game and about ten minutes in the lad was completely overwhelmed. He contacted a steward who immediately let him move into the family stand where he was fine again. No questions asked no quibbling about seats or tickets just let him straight through.

Was the sensory room really good did your wife say? I want to see if I can book my lad in for a game sometime, guess I'm just a bit nervous, but on the face of it sounds brilliant.

Fair Play to the club and staff involved.

Lovely to read. So glad your daughter got to experience something she wanted to in a way that worked for her 🥰

Well done Nicole for stepping in (and to the steward beforehand).

Thanks for sharing.

The wife said the room was fantastic, she said it was so ambient and relaxed but they could still feel part of the game. She was really impressed with all of it including how the club treated them and she's a hard woman to impress trust me 🤣

For me the club became a little more personal to me, I went from being a supporter and a consumer for 30 odd years to actually feeling like this club was family. Its hard to explain but this experience really made me feel so much closer to this club. So defo go and experience a game with ya lad in that room I am sure you will be as impressed with it as my daughter and wife were!

Lovely story. The nicer side of football that largely goes unreported.

Should send that to 70 year old drunk fan and his son who were beaten half to death after attending a game at BDTBL then grabbed free bees and executive treatment for dragging our club through the gutter press.

we sit outside but in the international bar next to the sensory room and can I say the whole staff in that area are magnificent they will do anything for you if asked , ok you pay more I get that but there’s a lot of things they do to help , the sensory room is an amazing idea as BDTBL can be very intimidating sometimes, it warms the heart when you see them taking the kids in there and this isn’t the first time they do it more often than you think .
Well done SUFC a great story and makes you proud to be a blade ⚔️

I'm in the background of the second picture (along with one of my nephews) 🙃

The sensory room is excellent! My brother has twin autistic boys and they've loved it both times they've been in (once at Watford, once at Wigan). Really means a lot to my brother too as he has a way to bring his kids along to games without worrying!
