People get enjoyment from a whole range of things. When I was young I couldn’t understand those who enjoyed things I had no interest in. Now I am comfortable with all people’s interests, no matter what they are.
As it happens I have been interested in statistics since I was about 10, so I enjoy reading posts on here with them in. It doesn’t mean that I can be convinced that United will go up.

No one is saying their predictions are definitely going to happen, they’re just forming an opinion to throw in to what could be an interesting discussion. Thats literally the whole point of having a forum.

You do actually make a good point though. The context of end of season form is completely different to whats gone before. Psychologically, its a whole different ball game and there are likely to be the odd freak results. Its why no one can ever predict this division. Interesting talking point though.

Stats are fine. Its how people use them. The best analysers will pick stats and use them in the context of the argument their trying to make.

The most pointless ones are so and so hasnt won away at so and so since 1973. But they might have only played each other 10 times and the team who hasnt won are now a league above.
