I have to agree with you about Berge pommps, we are not the right club for him and vice versa. Nice kid who we could never build a team around as he goes missing so often and has some glaring weaknesses that are not improving with time. Fleck had a decent game and so did Osborn. I have been quite impressed with Osborn's corners (when he gets the chance) of late as well, more so than Norwood's. Watford pressed and pressed us quite effectively and, to me, looked the better team up to the final third for much of the game which usually means our midfield might as well not exist but thankfully Norwood and Fleck stuck to it for once. Ndiaye might be in a goal drought but for winning and keeping possession he is a real throw-back. I just love watching him play even when he is in a bit of a dip in form. Huge 3 points today. Well done Blades.

Had a few of those "paid practice" gigs over the years too Pommps. Still, take the money and run.
Working Mens Clubs on the other hand are sadly now on a terminal decline meaning fewer venues for artistes to ply their trade.

Jesus. You should have seen it. My missus and her buddies were pissing themselves.

Speaking with their committee members afterwards I mentioned opening the bar in the function room might bring the numbers up, as also lighting the fucking dancefloor (in total darkness save for odd flashes from our lighting on the stage) They said 'Yeah, were trying to appeal to the younger people to bring up the membership.' My reply - 'Bingo? Really?'

The whole fucking club is laid out wrong and for a time and demographic where places like that were packed with either darts/billiards players in one room and drinkers listening to Bob on t'organ and Frank on t'drums knocking out Tony Christie and Neil Diamond standards and t'main turn, usually a fat bloke who looks like Ted Bovis with sideburns singing 'Love Me Tender'. Although we had quite a few up dancing and singing, next door there were ten year olds hogging the pool table, a darts match on and a massive telly with programmes on. If you're paying a pretty decent fee for a pretty decent band, you need to make your fucking mind up what the evening is about. And stick to it. And if I approached a snooker or pool table as a kid in my time in WMCs in Sheffield, I would have been quickly shifted. I was banned playing darts at Norton Oakes Cricket Club in my early teens despite being pretty decent, simply because I was a kid. This is the way ...

They've got a lot of lessons to learn.

😞I dream of evenings like that . Love me tender followed by Old Shep, smoking was compulsory as was the simulated shag when you got home .

Happy happy days

Pomps I just don't get what your problem is with Berge or many other fans tbf. He's class and a class above anybody else on the park, what do people really want from him? He's not 100% involved in every bit of action on the pitch but when he is you see his class he's a level above and anybody that really knows football should see that. He was as good as if not better than golden boy Ndiaye today, but for me Bogle or Egan MOTM yesterday the back four were solid infact all 11 was from front to back. Good rite up pomps as always 👍

I think that you're being a bit unfair on Berge dude! He wasn't as bad as you think.
If anyone needs criticism it's Norwood!
Does Anel miss 2 Games ? I thought it was one ?

Shit just checked it and he does miss 2 games ! Thats a bummer especially as it should never have been a booking ! Stroud is a nob !

Re Berge. Do we expect too much of him?
Yes, he goes missing. He clearly has talent but lacks application.
I would suggest at £20M ish, in this division, we should expect more.

i thought berge was once again very dissapointing again yesterday he just doesnt do enough for me stand out for me when he came on was tommy doyle if only we could keep this lad fit i would have him in before berge every week max lowe seems to be going backwards again after picking his game up so i would drop him as well maybe osborn there he did well yesterday thats his only position for me if hes in the team offers us nothing in midfield but overall a great day for us and another game less for boro to close on us i reckon if we can get to 83 points boro cant get above us 6 more wins and a couple of draws should see us over the line

So you'll explain why I am wrong, obviously?

And I watched it on SUTV, Fallowfield. About six differing camera angles and a central, high position in the TC Stand.

What did you watch it on? Be aware, I don't believe a word you say.

pommpey

I also watched it from the south stand

I don’t think either had an amazing game we got dominated in midfield partly due to Gareth allowing them to do so giving up the midfield and defending in a low block

Berge did more than Norwood to affect the game IMO

I also think berge looks as if he is playing within his self compared to the start of the season because hecky is playing him in a flat 3 and not behind the striker where he looked far better

Our fans don’t understand that which is why he gets a lot of grief and he cost £20 mill so is judged differently

He did more than Norwood & Fleck in terms of getting forward

It’s just that he cost £20 mill and they didn’t

I made a particular point of watching Berge today when we were out of possession.
He would never get in my team.
He does absolutely nothing to defend , track , close down or tackle players.
He is incredibly lazy once we lose the ball - he hardly bothers to jog back , just seems to think it's not his job.
Even if he is goal side of their player , he doesn't close down their ability to pass , he just doesn't pose any problems to the man in possession.
I don't know if our coaches watch him and if they do , I can't understand why they don't recognise this.
He needs to learn that as a midfielder he must be "involved" in 100% of the game , not drifting around making sure that he's anywhere but where he can regain possession.
He is quite literally a passenger , whilst his teammates put in the hard graft.
There were situations when he was our closest player to their man in possession and he had teammates behind him to back him up , yet still he would not even attempt to close down , let alone tackle.
I lost count of the occasions when he literally allowed Watford's play to develop instead of cutting it out.
Norwood , Fleck , Doyle put him to shame in the amount of effort they contribute.
Berge's occasional contribution when in possession is nowhere near enough to justify him being worthless out of possession.

Was going to say the same.. WMC's days are numbered sadly.

Second playing as many kids as we can against spurs, we can't afford injuries and burn out at this stage.

I'm not an Osborne fan at all but he did well when he came on for a change, obviously as mentioned suits that position more.

We won (ending a two match losing streak), we kept a clean sheet & Boro lost. Thems the positives for me. Yesterday basically wiped our loss to Boro from the slate.

Overall I thought it was a very poor game, some brief flashes of football, but overall poor. Watford were woeful, they lacked intent, passion, tactics and belief, and were a very poor reflection of the quality of the championship play off contenders. On paper, I rate their manager and a number of their players, but yesterday I thought they were shit. Saying that, but for the absolute comedy of the last few minutes, they nearly walked away with a point.

We were marginally better, and got the result. Something which we have become experts at this season, and I suppose that's the secret of getting out of the league.

The amount of gratuitous 5 yrd square and backwards passing from both sides in the middle 3rd was frustrating. Aimless attempts at keeping possession as if brain washed to do so, players picking the ball up in space moving forwards, stopping and knocking it square/back. Both sides dropped into a stodgy midfield lacking any real dynamism and intent, where the ball was a hot potato.

The pitch has been visibly overplayed and now resembles a decent quality works pitch. I don't care about the ladies team or the u23's, they should play their football at Warminster Road if needs be and not at BDTBL. We're competing for a £200m prize and that should be the club's focus.

The pitch could've contributed to the many misplaced passes, poor quality passes, and heavy touches, but not the lack of understanding of team mates. Our main tactic is give it to Ndiaye and see if something happens, and he's usually the one responsible for the positives of our play.

If we do keep on eaking out the wins and go up, the team will need a total rebuild and serious money spending on it.

Pomps I just don't get what your problem is with Berge or many other fans tbf. He's class and a class above anybody else on the park, what do people really want from him? Disagree entirely. He is not a class above at all. I think he is a below mediocre player made so because he is in the wrong team in the wrong league in the wrong country. He's a 'continental player' and should be back in Belgium where the standard allows him time on the ball and to get away with being literally carried through the match. He won't get away with that here - and especially in a team now needing standout performances to achieve the promotion it desperately needs for it's survival and its fans.

I know football. I've been kicking a ball about on my lawn up at Gleadless Valley since I was three, played schools, Sunday Leagues, Royal Navy football and have part of a coaching badge at a lower level than Fallowfield's UEFA A but still watch the game and have decent handle on the tactics and strategies down there on the green stuff. I also know a strap-hanger when I see one (I've played with players like Berge too who somehow end up picked and you end up carrying, 0-3 down and praying for the fucking coach to sub the lazy arsed cunt so we can get summat back from the game and get out of our half) and Berge is a strap-hanger. There's two things which tint people's spectacles about Berge:

1. He seems a nice kid
2. He wears a red-and-white shirt

There's fuck all else. He has, since his return from yet another injury, surfed firstly on a wave of 'he's just returned from injury' and then when he still fails to fire up the game its a wishy-washy array of statements like 'he's a class player'. He's shown precious little class save for running past players a few times and the odd goal. He's been here three years now including the Premier League (where he got broken) and has spent 40% of that time out of the game and a great deal of the remainder playing, but out of the game. He's simply Emperor's New Clothes in a Blades shirt. Misplaced and inappropriate for what we need and in any case, a poor signing because we didn't have a Sander Berge hole in our team at the time. And when you look at the real facts, how have we improved with him in the team? If he was anything of the like of a £22m midfielder, he'd be bossing the middle of that park and using his size and strength, Matic-style to dominate the game and win the midfield. That's what I expect of him and yesterday Norwood and Fleck, two of my previous targets, did so much more to make their mark on the game, as did Doyle when he came on.

Sander Berge shouldn't pick himself, nor stay on the park when he's having a stinker. But he does. Hence 'ten men'

Exactly that on many levels. I went round many WMCs back in the day, City Road, Dial House, Pitsmoor, Crookes and countless others all over the city I can't remember. My late brother in law was a singer/compere in the '70s who had a great Tony Christie voice and could hold a tune but he'd have three neyts in t'Pitsmoor, two in t'Carlton, next weekend in t'Dial etc, etc, etc. If anything I got my cues from him slugging it out wi' Keith on t'organ and Reg on t'drums and my dad who was a decent pianist himself. The stuff me and my mate lug round and set up would make him shit himself if he was still alive, bless him. But back then I was sat with crisps and pop (sometimes half a delicious Sam Smiths/Tetley/Mansfield) and didn't move for fear of my life. These days kids are all over the fucking dance floor and crashing into your kit (or playing pool - WTF?)

I sat backstage whilst t'numbers were being called out browsing shoutbox for match reactions. My missus and her mates sat in the audience laughing at the situation. Last week we played a community centre nearby and it was fucking rammed as have most of the pubs this year. Some storming gigs, puntuated by some shit gigs.

Anyway, we're supporting East 17 later this year at a local festival, which I am also MCing/Compering too for the whole weekend.

I agree with most of this.
The problem many have is that if a player does not give total commitment throughout the game then they are not valued.
On that basis Lineker was a waste of space. However the positive aspects have to make “carrying “ that player worthwhile and that is where Sander Berge fails too often.
To have a fully committed RWB with limited talent instead would weaken us in my opinion: to have a fully committed RWB with talent would be be great ! Maybe next year.

Did they not get told to shush during Bingo? Happened to us in a WMC in Clowne of all places!

Sorry if this is a bit delayed. Had a gig tonight up in Eastleigh (Eastliegh Working Mens Club) which turned out to be a fucking nightmare. I won't go into details, but some people couldn't run a fucking bath, let alone a WMC with regards entertainments. Still, several hundred quid better off for a fucking paid rehearsal. Next gig is in a local boozer that does music and it will be rammed.

I thought today was a much, much better game across the park. Great to see ten men battle so well, especially against a Watford team who at times looked capable. But our usual plan - spend ten minutes looking like we'll score and failing then lose wood for the next eighty didn't happen. We went toe to toe with them for the whole match, despite being a man down from the kickoff.

I missed the first five again thanks to the Firestick having a bobbar. Whilst that happened (a minute before kickoff) I hurriedly tried to fire up NordVPN and get the SUTV stream but Nord VPN itself hexed my computer, shutting down it's internet connection. Luckily Firestick came back and Berge had already been sent off and we were already into trading punches with Watford. For the first twenty minutes we were pressed but made them look a bit desperate and we built counters quite well, keeping their backline occupied and utilising the better inside channels for a change. We also started passing better to not much effect, with the ref being a bit of a cunt now and then. The anticipation was there though with us kicking toward Shoreham that we'd eventually grind Watford down and nick a goal, taking care of course not to fuck things up completely by conceding first. Eventually you could see more confidence brimming in the players and they pushed forward. Our goal, whilst flukey and fortunate, was richly deserved and we parked the bus to finally secure the three points putting a better airgap between us and Boro who were fucked in the trump-pipe by WBA with what looked like pretty basic goals. Why the fuck couldn't we have done that?

Foderingham 6/10: In a game of little chances he had not a great deal to do. He did however get in bravely in a scramble in the first half which was significant
Bogle 6.5/10: Thought he was great going forward and popping up in unlikely areas. A bit exposed defending though mind you it was a bit light handed down that right side
Anel 6/10: Drops a whole point for a stupid yellow which gets him over the ten card threshold. Some good interventions, blocks and interceptions but fuck me he is starting to get careless and clumsy
Egan 7.5/10: Solid performance and a vast improvement on the Millwall game. Great headers out and jockeying. Must have been some bollocking after the last dismal showing
Robinson 7/10: Another solid, knob-and-bollocks-out performance from Robbo. Long gone is C3PO. He's more like The Mandalorian now
Lowe 4/10: Seems to be going backwards. His confidence seems pretty erm ... low ... and his game is a bit shambolic and unpredictable
Berge ?: Must have been sent off in the bit I missed. Okay, I jest. I'll be kind and give him 4/10. Again, showing fucking nowt to justify being one of the most expensive players on the pitch and in Sheffield United's history. Ball watching, uncommitted, out of position, beaten for pace and agility. What the fuck more does anyone need to see that this bloke ... nice guys that he is ... is a square peg in a round hole? Today he was AWOL. We need players like him to dictate the midfield and the tempo of the game and throughout the whole 90, he was dismally underhorsepowered.
Norwood 7/10: Good game for him. Got stuck in and showed for the ball and cut the Hollywood's down again.
Fleck 7.5/10: Thought it was an excellent return for Flecky. Very John and little of Jim. Turned up all over the pitch and unlucky not to score in the first half. Really happy with his sixty minutes
NDaiye 6/10: He's into a goal drought now and he knows it and needs to break the hoodoo. Still dug a lot out for us and took two, three players with him on his forays
McBurnie 8/10: Thought he worked very, very hard and won loads of aerial challenges and kept their backline busy. Good 'assist' for the goal.

Doyle 6.5/10: better game for him and he made his mark in his area and attacking with a fierce shot
Osborn 7/10: Well pleased with his outing. Much more suited to LWB than LM although late on they put one of their tall men out wide, but that didn't phase him
Sharp 5/10: Battled and unfortunately lost
Jebbison unmarked

HJ&SMcC 8/10: Broke the losing streak early and got into the players minds at last that this is a 90 minute game and every minute needs battling for. A well deserved, if scrappy three points. Play the kids v Spurs and get the players back ready to get more from Blackburn Rovers. We have the wind in back our sails now.

Good report as normal
What the fuck has happened to Lowe really poor.
Sander you are better please show it.
Bogle please stick to the basics of you are making yourself look a cunt with those step overs and shimmies release the ball earlier.
NDaiye still putting a shift in brilliant but relax in front of goal.
Run around did ok
Fleck was up for it today hope he doesn’t go hiding against Blackburn.
Oli sound he would score more if we knocked crosses in waist to head height best header of a ball in the Championship defending as well.

Totally agree millhouse. I'm struggling to remember A big money signing for us that was actually any good.
Any suggestions?

There's got to be a reason the club has held onto Berge instead of cashing in and using the money to pay off debts and buy a tougher midfielder,
because I don't know how long his contract has to run but decision time on a new one can't be that far away and that's when the fun starts.

And Pommpey I remember the Drummer and Pianist at the first W/M club I joined back in 1957 being called Norfolk and Good, and mistakenly thinking that was their real name ......

Thought the tactics were very good and made us difficult to play through - subs were good too so well done HJaSM

Robinson was superb imo , IN was also great and only needs a goal . Fleck was solid and helped us achieve the above

Bogle was much better and actually defended quite well whereas Lowe was really quite poor , apart from the 10 mins before he was subbed .

OM was what we want and need from someone leading our line , a real bastard to play against .

As for Sander - another game of fits and , well , more fits tbh . Should be doing and affecting our games much much more - oh how I wish he would power through the opposition rather than the very occasional drop the shoulder routine (as lovely as they are)

Overall a fantastic result and weekend - let’s build on this now
