Worse to come

It's a strangely worded OP in my opinion, I don't think I have ever worried or thought about what other people thing about The Blades. It seems to be forgotten these days but a supporter of a football team, which I class myself as, supports their team through thick & thin & doesn't cry like a baby after any poor result or performance. I want my team to be as high up the league structure as possible, people saying things like "we are not ready to go up" are not true supporters.
We have always been a unfashionable club, & I like that, I want us to fight for every victory or point we can get, & I will not chuck my dummy out if we go through a bad spell or even get relegated, disappointing as that may be. I have typed the word supporter lots in this post, but it seems to me that this forum is full of doom & gloom merchants & not true supporters of Sheffield United FC.
That's my point. People are unhappy with this. They'll be even unhappier in a tougher league.

Last time we went up, it had been such a great journey with the squad and manager that I didn’t really know where our ceiling was and the first season with all that momentum was great. Now it’s all different, I can’t see the current familiar squad getting anywhere but relegated if they are in the Prem next season. Watching Middlesbrough last week, it was clear which team currently look more suited to cope at the top level. So many huge unknowns for us as well, like who is our owner? how much can we spend? who might we appoint if not Hecky to do a rebuilding job? (Not Nathan Jones) I’d take promotion for the financial reasons, but I would have incredibly low expectations. The owner issue as far as I’m concerned is bigger than if we go up or not.

If we do go up, barring some kind of major change, I'd expect to be getting relegated. Realistically, the club is a long way off being in a position to stay up. That's just realism.
My thoughts as well , I would take a season in the Prem of not spending and arriving back in the championship with the club in a good position financially… this is assuming we don’t get taken over.

we need to buy next season regardless as we're running out of players, but I'd take a few sensible purchases with an eye to the Championship the following season.

I was mulling similar things over when all the embargo stuff came out and I think football is a cesspit of broken promises. For me, I would much rather the club be honest about their aims at the start of a season. If they turned round and said "the money's dried up a bit, we need to cut our cloth, re-group and start again so we are going to try and pick off some better lower league talent and a handful of youth and see how it goes with no expectation" I'd be perfectly fine with it and enjoy watching how it all pans out. However, others would simply not go to the games on the back of a lack of ambition. Each to their own I guess. Paradoxically, if there was a situation where they said "We are gonna chuck £2bn and buy our way to the top table" I'd probably stop going :D

But then the weerz munneh gone crew will start grumping!

Losing the 6 pointer against Middleburgh was a big downer, and now the question is will that defeat give them a boost and us the doubts, or will our lads get back up, dust themselves down, and do us proud.

Game on, so hold on to your hat and WATCH THIS SPACE...... 👍

A dig, and a serious point.
When we get promoted, this season hopefully, or if not another, how will large chunks of the fan base cope with losing lots more matches than now?
A top place finish in the Prem is unlikely. A great spell would see us there for many a year, but with lots more losses than we see now. There'd be some big defeats and games where we are outclassed.
Can people cope with it?
Tell you where I stand

I have been going through the turnstile since September 1970 - what a time to start my journey -

From 1975 I have had a season ticket and have attended home and away , as have many , my two kids also had season tickets for many years . They don’t now .

Over that time we have played witness to some good times , many woeful times and two truly great times (1970/5 team and Wilders stunning team of 2019 /20)

You tend not to follow Utd and have many great expectations of winning an overwhelming amount of games

However , if we do fk up this year I have told myself that I will not go again . And I mean it .

To self destruct from the position we were in is tantamount to self harming on a scale I haven’t witnessed before .

I can, I’ve been a Blade for life.

I hate the Premier league, hate it's shite VAR and top team bias that even with VAR still shines through...

Love it's money though, even though you need to overspend to try and survive, which catches up with billionaire-less owned clubs, leaving them worse off in the end.

The statistic of former Premier league clubs that end up in league one is all you need to look at, overspend and it puts the club in a tailspin when you didn't return promptly.

Pigs have been out of it for a lifetime for that very reason.

think they've started to answer that at Millwall.

The amount of bed wetting on this forum over the past week has been record breaking.

We’ve lost two games.

We’re 4 points clear of Boro with a game in hand.

I understand there is momentum and all that, but you’d think we’re about to be relegated with some of the negativity on here.

We must have the most pessimistic fans in england ( me included ) where as forest fans and borough fans roard them on to success we just sit there Quiet as mice with ocassional moaning.
We've had our spell same as those two. The season we went up to the Premier league we looked and felt like we could win every game, we even expected to win every game, or most of us did, that's why we had the grounds rocking , that's why the pundits where all over us .
Have a bit of faith, the crowd Saturday will be loud , same on Wednesday against Spurs because we are going to win both games. Our season starts again Saturday, the final push, the last hurdle , sprint to the finish, or as one famous Chef said" Letsh bee avenue".
Or as the great William Shakespeare once wrote;" FUCK MIDDLESBROUGH"

If everything was stable off the pitch I would be disappointed if we didn't get promoted but confident we would strengthen and give it a good go the season after, however, things really aren't stable and this will have a major impact on us, so to be honest I personally would rather lose every prem game and bag the cash to continue to build. I could live with being a yo-yo club for some years.

I'll be honest there's a level of desperation around the fans at the moment that I haven't seen for years, the poor ownership lack of communication and leadership at the board level is disgusting.

The embargo that we shouldn't be under and the wacky ownership farce are just plain embarrassing, mostly the embargo, you pay your way in Sheffield and if you can't, you don't buy it.

It's a triple whammy all at the wrong time and a few fans were clinging to the teams results to hold thier nerves together, anybody wondering how the manager and team feel with the added pressure, that the board are deliberately with thier silence, loading them up with?

We've not played bad and lost 2 is what I think, a win Saturday would be really helpfull, if we lose and boro win, I'm having a small break from this board. 😂

How they respond over the next few games will show whether they have the stomach for a battle to go up or will just drop off into another underwhelming play off campaign where we'll probably conspire to lose against some shitty side like Luton who will out-shithouse our honest, naive bunch.

Make no bones about it, this team without at half a dozen new players will come straight back down, assuming we get there to start with.

Not getting there however, you only have to look towards Huddersfield to see how it can go wrong.

I actually think the bed wetting as you call it has or is coming home to roost.

A lead of 14 points plus vastly superior goal difference has been whittled away to 4 with momentum firmly swung towards Boro

Many on here and not on here could see what was quite possible to happen based on poor displays
Negativity v blind optimism ?

Fine line in reality

Make a semi decent attempt at the cups

No better chance than a Premier League team making an effort, we should despatch lower league clubs, and can have a right pop at top Premier League clubs that aren't that bothered.

That would make up for the inevitability of being unable to cope with Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth, Burnley and those other giants of the game

The difference is that Forest and Boro play(ed) good positive attacking football. We've had one good game (Swansea), in our last 6 games, including two against a non-League team who outplayed us in one of the games. We've been scraping by for a while now but results deflected from the average performances, and now the luck we were riding appears to have run out. So it's no real surprise that we're quieter than Forest or Boro, when we bored watching the same predictable performance and mistakes every week.

Had we not meekly coughed up six points over the past 180 minutes of football I'd say we'd be in a bit better mood.

One thing is for certain, if we don't jettison some players and buy well, we will be battered every week with this squad playing modified Wilderball

pommpey

Hold on. Who's to say Boro will keep on winning? They are away to West Brom on Saturday. If they lose and we win, we will be seven points clear again with a game in hand; a big knock to their morale.
Iv just read that Carricks start at Boro is the best start by any manager in their history!
Typical for us but can't carry on surely?

I honestly believe we have some of the most negative bedwetter fans in the world. l will go as far as to say that a lot of our fans love it when things go bad and almost prefer it, so that they can start "look at me threads about how shit we are" for attention. I honestly believe some of our fans prefer it when its crap! You can measure this by the fact there is more new threads and comments are this site when we had a poor result.
