If we do get taken over and sell Berge the new owners couldn't hide behind ffp that's for sure

I never said he was irreplaceable but will he be replaced at all ?

So if he isn't outstandingly the best player he is shit and let's get rid ?
You’re such a drama queen 🤣🤣.

We should only sell if we replace. He’s a good player but if we’re getting a fair bid £20m or above then he should go.

I’d be more gutted if it was NDiaye

Selling Berge is bad news for Norwood.

Sander’s presence on the pitch and his ball-carrying ability sucks players away and gives Norwood the space he needs.

If Norwood is pressed and squeezed, Berge has space to carry it.

If Berge isn’t around, it’s easier to set up against us I think. And more straightforward to go to the “mark Norwood out the game” method.

Just my thoughts
It hadn't occurred to me before, but I think you'll be proven right.

He isn't effective, defensively, as a CM but what he doesn't bring is the space and time for others, in the way you describe.

On a purely financial level, it’s good business. The reported £20m guaranteed with add ons would get back our original outlay and return a profit is he’s a success. Considering his contract situation, injuries and inconsistent form that is a result.

However, the fact that we are significantly weakening our squad when we’re in such a strong position is extremely disappointing to say the least. I can’t think of too many clubs who’ve sold key players when they’re in our position. Midfield was already an area we needed to strengthen not weaken and unless they have a late replacement in mind there will be pressure on Mcatee and Doyle stay fit and in form.
You're absolutely on the money, for me, it's madness.

I see Hecky said after the game that we are in mid takeover, so perhaps deal is still live?
You have absolutely no idea what is going on
With the takeover or embargo or anything for that matter
You come on a thread and take the most negative views and then formulate them as your own

Some prize bedwetting going on.

I love Berge and I would like nothing more for him to fulfil his potential with us and become the player I think he can become.

However it's time to be objective and acknowledge that it isn't going to happen and the longer we wait for it to happen, the more his value drops.

We're not second in the league because of Berge and he only has a good game when we play well overall and unfortunately that is the definition of a luxury player.

Given the circumstances (embargo + need to fund 1 or two coming in) it's an absolute no brainer.

Absolutely GLTTL. Anyone seeing this as part of an implosion is a misery lover who gets excited every time we lose a point or a rival team buys a player we think makes them stronger.

Totally agree with everything you have said there.

It was never off. Only on here with the wild rumours and mass wrist slitting from some of the posters, some of whom (and not you B58) I'm sure are Pigs on the wind up who love to spout shit and misery whenever they get the opportunity. Some fuckers on here need to grow a pair. I'd have hated to have been with them when I did my time in the forces.

should we be surprised if he goes! He's been going for a year or more. potentially a really top player ! If he goes it will be interesting if he pulls it all together for a period of time! Not done it for us sandwiched between injuries . He has fallen short for us ! 20 million or more !
Snap there hand off.

I may be negative Frank but that’s because I’ve been watching them for over 50 years

Of course I have no idea what’s going on as do 99% of posters on here.

I do not formulate them as my own. I read and I give an opinion. You may not agree with them and that’s fair enough but tough shit if you don’t

Do me a favour Frank. Stop fking reading my posts and if you do, don’t fking bother replying. Better still put me on ignore please

I’m already sick to the back fking teeth of your condescending replies

Ok buddy

Or you could do what most do and put him on ignore. Works for me.

You know you can.swear on this site you don't have to self edit ?

Big fan of sander would love him to stay, the fact he’s on his way tells you how much the sale of the club is miles away.

Why is everyone panicking,Berge for me goes missing in games to often the kids definitely a baller but if I was hecky I would shove Bogle further forward when Baldock's fit

True, last week against Hull I forgot he was on the pitch. 😄

I would say that we are probably about 6 weeks or so away from the sale going though (didn't Hemmingham say we are about 4 weeks into a process that regularly takes 10 weeks or so to complete) so I never thought it was imminent. I do think it will happen late Feb/ March though so let's wait and see..the issue we ha e at the moment though is that we have cashflow problems and need monies now. Hence the probable sale of Sander. It is what it is. Get decent money and but a player or two and no major damage done. Sell Ndiaye though and I will lose my shit!

If Brighton, Fulham and whoever else want to get into some kind of bidding war for Sander then that’d be great. Shame they all know we’re broke but you never know 😂

Berge - flu?? Happens a lot at SUFC at this time of yearu

January 1998 - sale of Deane & Fjortoft springs to mind
Was 'flu mentioned?
I seem to remember they were just sold with no excuse or reason given.
I think only Beattie had the illness given as a reason for missing a game.

I think what this shows us is that the new owner hasn't got a pot to piss in either.
The manager wants to keep SB and the player wants to stay, but we need to sell him to lift the embargo.
That surely tells us that the new owner doesn't have the means to clear the embargo himself.
Concerning!

I'll be very sad to see him go. I'm a fan of Sander, although I appreciate he's never fully fulfilled his potential here as yet.

My thoughts are:
  1. This is an important window, in an important part of an important season. There is so much at stake, we should be stronger at the end of it, not weaker.
  2. To sell now, leaves us weaker in quality and in depth, we risk jeopardising what we've been working towards. At a time when other sides are recruiting. At this point in the season, you ought to be investing in order to press on.
  3. The apparent need to sell is incredibly alarming. The silence surrounding the club, at a time when reassurance is needed, I just as worrying.
  4. The player (and his agent) reportedly wanting to stay is also further sign for worry, IMO.
  5. £20m and add ons, is a good deal in the circumstances, in terms of overall form, injury record and lack of consistency. That said, I stick my earlier points. Hold on to everyone now, everyone is needed, the bigger picture and aiming for promotion is more important.
  6. Whilst Berge's consistency and influence has been lacking at times, what he offers us is important - as others have said, he takes pressure off Norwood, by drawing markers to him. He's far less effective defensively but important offensively. Not in terms of consistently creating chances, but in terms of our success being built on an arsenal of attacking options that all offer something different: Norwood's ping, attacking fullbacks, McAtee and N'Diaye's runs, Jebbo getting in behind, McBurnie's resurgence, Robinson's throw and crucially, Berge's driving runs and low crosses. The variety of options is our greatest strength, IMO. We now risk reducing those options.
  7. Selling reduces our tactical options. We're already short on numbers as it is, especially up top and when we can't bring forwards in, when we've lost Khadra, and since lost both Osula and Jebbo, the option to play Berge as one of two CAMs behind a striker was potentially crucial.
  8. Selling, without any guarantees of replacing, ludicrous.
Disappointed to say the least, and for someone who rarely moans, fearing the worst. 12 points clear, in second place ought to be an upbeat and enviable position to be in - truth be told, I'm more dreading how this could play out.

The statement from PH on Sky is worrying. Largely because of the amount of times he mentions financial problems. Ends with:

"The simple thing for me is to keep it together but we find ourselves in difficult times financially and it means there may be some tough decisions that have to be made. I have to be prepared for what happens."

You have to wonder

"It doesn't mean he is going anywhere, Sander is happy here. But the situation we find ourselves in mid-takeover, transfer embargo and no clarity on which way it is going and financial issues.

If we have to sell to get out of an Embargo and secure financial stability then we’ve got to sell one of our assets. Anger towards a factual situation changes nothing. If we believe the papers we’ve knocked back Everton for N’diaye and opted for Berge as the sale - clearly the right decision and not a fire sale

Based on the post match interview, is this gets us out of the embargo and we’ve 2 lined up to replace Khadra and Berge (and we keep N’diaye) then I’m probably placated… depending on who! But O’Brien from Forest is a decent calibre.

Berge firing on all cylinders is a joy a we are immensely weaker without him, but Berge of recent form is certainly replaceable.

Khadra was a dud, so can easily be replaced and improved on.

Come 1st Feb we might even be a more well balanced squad
