Yes. We need some athletic, energetic midfielders with good engines who can close down the opposition when we are off the ball. Although we are winning matches at the moment we seem to regularly lose any control of midfield.

Not so long ago we had too many strikers. A clear out of strikers, and Injuries have forced the manager to start academy players, or fill the bench with them.

Yes we need quality additions in strikers and midfield, but for me the sensible option is to blend a few sensible buys, with loan players and academy starlets. We are not a top six spending club but we do want to stabilize our EPL status. Any owner who has a good business background should realise this.

The manager should insist on having an input on this, using his transfer budget sensibly as outlined above. These considerations take no account of the loss of players like Berge and Ndiaye who both look like moving on.

If we take this approach, we keep McBurnie and Jebbinson as our first choice strikers, backed up with Osula, Brewster and a loan or permanent striker as competition or back up. Count on finding another MGW, and Ndiaye and Berge replacements.

Costs for transfers, loans and wages need to be sensible instead of spending big like we tried to before on mostly permanent buys, who may or may not make it. Otherwise we risk another fire sale mid season to move players on.

PH might get some money from the PL windfall, but anyone who comes in needs to fit the current strong dressing room.

We don’t want to be a yo-yo club, and we can’t just throw big money at the problem. Sensible spending using different resources should lead to sustainability.

Pukki is a wonderful player. 22 prem goals for a very weak side. His age is the only issue.

Last time we had tried and tested Robinson + McBurnie from the Championship and Mousset that scored a few for Bournemouth off the bench in the PL.

I think our strategy should be two experienced strikers, one being the best one we can get on loan and the other a free, both for one year. McBurnie long term contract and Sharp for another year. Brewster, Jebbison and Osula on new deals and loaned out to the championship.

Release all three experienced strikers after a year where they’ve hopefully contributed to keeping us up and we have young strikers all a year further on in their development and ready to come straight in. Succession planning and most of PL budget spent on improving other areas of the pitch.

Proven at that level and scoring goals at the moment too.

Whilst they won't go up automatically, Norwich could still go up, which would scupper that one.

I think our striker that most are craving for is already here. Young, hungry, athletic and a handful. Yes he's a tad raw and perhaps inexperienced but IF he plays regularly from now till end of season he will come on leaps and bounds.

My point is not to assume media reports as if anything is true, and also not to assume that players that are linked with "big clubs" (that might be in the Championship next season anyway) are then automatically off the table. Maybe Gyokeres is an old school guy that actually wants to play for the benefit of his career, keeping himself in the minds of the Sweden setup etc, rather than just cold hard cash like half the Man City squad?

I think we need to invest a chunk of the PL money in the infrastructure of the club, namely the academy to get Cat 1 status, the training facilities, and the Kop by improving the facilities there and getting rid of the sport pillars. The costs of these would be a relatively small amount of the PL money. £20 mill? These would make us more sustainable in the long run and better able to attract and hang onto new academy players. That would still leave funds to invest in players for the PL. We just need to be smart with recruitment (like with Anel).

Let's face it, if he's playing for the benefit of his career he's much better off going to Brentford, Leeds or another more established PL club that's been in the league at least 1 season.

I'm also wary of spending 20m on another striker, especially one that has a nearly identical goals per game ratio and similar career trajectory to OMB when he moved to us:

OMB: (112 apps, 39gls), 0.34gls per game
Gyokeres: (184 apps, 59gls) 0.32gls per game

Spreading our bets is the best way IMO, maybe my list isn't the best but we can definitely look towards spending £10m a player on midfield (O'Brien is a great shout, could we look at Wallace and Swift too??), defence (hadzikadunic) and a couple of decent strikers
