Quick reminder that our current form of the past 11 matches, post the gift draw to Norwich has been P11 W9 D1 L1 F20 A7. A win percentage of 82%.
As we don't have an away game for a few weeks, the away form approaching that game will read P7 W6 D1 L0 F11 A3 with 4 clean sheets. A win percentage of 86%.
This is an interesting draw because it's not boring. I don't think anyone has disrespected them saying they are Non-League, this will be a walk in the park. We are simply not that sort of club and regularly find ourselves as historical underdogs despite our recent Premier League experiences
No issue with them being confident getting a home draw. No issue with them seeing a fellow Championship team as winnable after just having beaten Coventry. Though it's worth noting Coventry played a weakened team (serves them right) and despite 10 men for most of the second half, still had 61% possession, 22 shots to 9 with 10 corners to 3 and also hit the woodwork twice (just like we did when we lost to Coventry when they only won with a daft penalty after we dominated).
Be confident. But don't be disrespectful. I don't quite get the immediate, 'that's winnable' and 'we can beat them', 'they don't realise how good we are' type comments. Given the documentary we know they are a well funded National League team with a guy that was top scorer in League Two as their main asset and a big lad as his partner who used to be at Wimbledon.
But I think they need to reign in a bit of the disrespect that some are showing.
We are not the higher up prima donnas that turn up expecting to win. We are the hard working, high press, passing but can mix it, team who defend like Trojans and who have no lack of potency up front, be that quite possibly the best forward in the Championship or the Championship's all time leading scorer.
We won't take this lightly and as shown by the efficient dispatching of Millwall away, a daunting away fixture for many, we can make half a dozen changes and not weaken the first XI. We were still missing Lowe, Norrington-Davies, O'Connell, Clark, Fleck, Osborn, Arblaster, McBurnie, Brewster. Khadra yet were levels above a team that hadn't lost at home since mid-September,
Hopefully this can be a respectful, typical cup tie with any over-cockiness being dutifully punished.
