Hecky Pre Match Press Conference – Millwall Away (FAC3) - 07.01.23

There is nothing encouraging coming out of the Lane.
Unexplained absences or injuries to key first teamers Lowe , Clark , RND , Fleck , Brewster , McBurnie.
Two young strikers are described as "just babies".
Khadra on way out but no money for replacement.
Very short of strikers.
No cover for Norwood.
It's so depressing , to the point of being barely credible.
Which club , with PL promotion within reach , would , in such circumstances with its squad , fail to strengthen when their rivals all will ?
I've watched the Blades for 55 years and seen some ridiculous scenarios but this one has me wondering if there's a deliberate ploy by the club to spread disinformation.
I hope so.

Blimey . You reckon he's off to Rangers? They couldn't afford him. They paid south of £20m for their record signing and McB would score for fun in that league.
I was thinking more along the lines of he's crocked with yet another one of our minor injuries that keep a player out for months... but now that you mention it

With all the ownership, injuries, JTW nonsense......oh to be a kid. My 15yo lad just walked in and said, "have we got tickets for Reading away yet? I can't wait" Nice to be reminded that on-the-pitch football is the absolute bollocks
Will be my only miss this season ,off skiing ,bloody part timers

You're every bit as likely to be right. Probably done for the season. Now Clark is stuffed, Lowe 5 minutes after coming back. Someting is rotten in the state of Denmark!!!

I'm looking for the Samaritans number 😔

Great post .Honest. Not wearing rose tinted specs and from the heart.

Unexplained?
Ok , poor choice of adjective , you're right.
Unanticipated is closer.
I accept that Hecky needs to play it cute in interviews to avoid giving information to the next opposition.
But some of the absences following positive prognoses are particularly disappointing.

Wasn't this a whole lot of really bad news.

Players out of contract, including Norwood ffs, and those contracts not being sorted. (Norwood himself saying the club should value him more.)
The group who, at the time it seemed thoughtfully, reasonably, and with a long-term plan picked Hecky, now pulling out and obviously ditching this carefully thought out long-term plan, and it being replaced with...what?
Hecky saying explicitly in a previous press conference that the lack of clarity will affect recruitment.
Saying that players need to play for themselves and will be motivated that way.
Mentioning that he himself is also, in part, motivated that way.
Khadra out, no-one in.
Pinning our spare striker hopes on two 19 year-olds.
More injuries for previously injured players.
etc. etc.

Tell me I'm reading too much into this. I'm not normally doom and gloom, but I'm glad we've got enough points to avoid relegation.

I think there has been an overly negative response.

JOC fairly expected.
Lowe not far away
McBurnie is worrying. Clark looks like he's out for a while
No ins, Khedra out
I don't think losing Khedra but having Osulu and Jebbo is the worst outcome.
The contract situation is fairly obvioys given the situation on and off the pitch.

Whichever fuckwit in charge of proceedings has let us get 9 points clear of 3rd place with a fantastic chance of promotion, with shitloads of injuries and in desperate need of some reinforcements and then put a process in place that completely hamstrings us (excuse the pun) when it comes to transfers in and out, should be really happy with themselves if we don’t go up automatically.

The manager has done it, the players have done it. The administration is yet again, trying their best to fuck things up.

🤣
I think we are trying to bullshit everyone and lull our rivals into the belief they can catch us.
And then we'll recruit a goal machine.
Hope so anyway !

I'm quite surprised with the reaction by some about this press conference. Outside of the McBurnie injury, everything else is what we knew already isn't it?

Doesn’t this game depend on the FA cup results Cappy , Could end up been a midweeker?. Decent away day Reading.

Yes, maybe, but summing it all up in one place and reinforcing just how fucked we are was uncalled for.

(I didn't know about Norwood, but it makes sense of his comment in the press conference the other day.)

It's like the old 'Black Knight' sketch by Monty Python.
Once all four limbs are severed , he says "t'is but a flesh wound !"
I'm optimistically going for the "disinformation" tactic by the club about having no money.
Ffs , they could borrow a couple of million from the prospective owners, for a short term player-loan , against the Ndiaye fee we'll get in May in the unlikely event we don't go up. Simples.
And if we do go up , it's no problem.

If the club fails to strengthen this month , they are certifiably insane.
There is literally no downside.

If we go up , sorted.

If we don't go up , we are in deep shit anyway with the squad , Ndiaye & Berge will leave , along with the out of contract players and loaners , so what's a couple of million to repay out of Ndiaye's fee ?

We are also 9 points clear and show no signs of letting go of any assets. We gambled in the summer and that's why we still have Berge and Ndiaye along with Anel. There is no money to do anything else.

We are in a position all but one team in the division would swap places with. Most of the issues we have are because we are in the process of being taken over. You could say it's bad timing but it would have been worse timing in the summer when we would have lost out on Anel, McAtee and Doyle too

We can’t borrow against a fee that isn’t a certainty though, no one would lend on that basis unless it’s at Wonga rates.

I hope you’re right with the disinformation call though, that press conference was depressing as fuck on a number of fronts. Injuries, loans, signings and contracts. All bad news.

Leaving the take over aside. If our Princely owner dropped other clubs he owned and concentrated solely on the Blades, he might have a pot to piss in

Stop it. I'd given up. I don't want any hope...

Watched it a few hours ago but there’s Brooks, Buyabu, Hampson, Marsh, Gomis plus your likes of Jebbo and Osula. Looked a very mixed group, perhaps to make up numbers, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of those on the bench or even playing. Out of those mentioned I think Brooks and Buyabu may get games given their positions with maybe Marsh and Gomis on the bench.

You're totally right Stretch but how many times have we seen United define logic for short term gain/keeping a tight ship. Still smarting all these years later at selling Kyle Walker for £4m; he'd only played a handful of games at the end of the day!

We've all been traumatised in the past by this club Booker, but the self inflicted wounds have been (imo) completely eradicated under the Prince.

He has turned us from a selling club, into a club that has backed its manager on every occasion, bar the January window 2 seasons ago (when the fat lad had all but sung on our brief stay in the PL) whilst also keeping the lights on.

Maybe now the final demands are in, and the shit is about to hit the fan but I don't think he gets enough credit and that is why I refuse to believe (until it is confirmed otherwise) that PH won't get at least some of what he needs this month. It would be insanity to knowingly derail this now, and completely out of recent character.

We'll know soon enough I suppose.
