McBurnie - transfer related absence?

I would sincerely hope it isn't transfer related.

Nothing so far has been said this way.

More that management want him sharper and fitter so he can perform like he did 2.5 months ago.

To Mc Burnie's credit with his injuries he is still joint top scorer with Ndiaye 9 goals. He is also effective winning headers in our own box.

Definitely not fit which is still worrying !

If McBurnie is not back for our home game against Stoke then something fishy is going on.

He pretty much said so in a recent interview.
he usually says 'back on the grass', ' back training, 'has a chance' ...all may be true as far as we are aware

What I don't understand is why some posters ( not saying you do) get really hung up about the manager not wanting to give any hints about team selection during media interviews and use it as a stick to beat the manager with

Because to a certain extent i agree with Warnock when he said ' You've got to die out there to get 3 points' then of course putting his pile cream on! Btw has anyone got any recomendations for pile cream please. I've used germalolids but its useless!

What does it matter anyway?
He's injured, which means that if he misses another five games he will need the next 15 games to get up to scratch
As good as saying season over, United career probably over if we go up.

If Heckingbottom says something on a Thursday (for example) and the circumstances have changed by Saturday, this is not the same as lying.

Think it was the Cardiff game earlier in the season when this happened and there were posts and tweets galore saying "Why did Hecky lie?" - some even went into long, detailed threads on Twitter talking about it. I didn't see anyone say "maybe something happened between the press conference and the game".

Very rare in life that there's only one possible explanation for something happening.

Agreed, and I definitely don’t.

He said something about giving nothing to opposition managers, that’s why he’s vague. I agree with him entirely.

Yes pisses me off lying bastard
What’s it matter? I’m old enough to remember when you had to see team come out and scribble any changes from the usual 11 ont back of yer program. And only 1 sub only allowed on when someone broke both legs.
Another example of social media and tinternet providing too much instant information putting self imposed stress on supporters.

Let's be right, Hecky did have McBurnie sat next to him pre-Cardiff sat resplendent in his pink polo shirt, both knowing he could barely walk and had no intention of playing in the match.

Question is how long is he out for?

He got his ankle knock against Rotherham on the 8th of November.

After the post World Cup resumption, hw then played 9 minutes plus stoppage time against Huddersfield on the 10th of December and 10 minutes plus stoppages 19th of December vs Wigan.

He has missed the subsequent 3 matches against Coventry, Blackpool and QPR entirely and if he doesn't play in the cup this weekend, then he'll have had a the best part of a month recovering and only having played around 25 minutes since the World Cup started.

yes its strange Hecky sending out false information, it's like he's not giving upcoming opponents our plans the sneaky bastard
That is unlike all other managers who send out lists to opponents of who they are thinking of playing

That isn't what happened. Based on the information available, it looked very much like that was the case but it wasn't.

The problem with Hecky telling us how long someone is injured for is that he makes it up. Ciaran Clark being the best example this season.

I'm all for misinformation but I'd just like to know that if McBurnie isn't going to be fit this month, that we've got a replacement lined up who is actually match fit and not likely to come in and get injured first game.

But this is totally different to other managers.
Wilder was always fairly open, his pre and post match interviews were interesting and informative.

Where as Hecky is much more defensive (for some reason), he doesn't reveal much about anything and often says he doesn't know.
It is a strange attitude to be so secretive. Hecky may as well say "no comment" when asked about injuries.
Just because he says a player is fit for Saturday doesn't mean that player will be playing, so it doesn't actually reveal much to the opposition.
Leeds manager Bielsa even used to reveal his starting line up to the opposition the day before and their results didn't suffer.

If we take Hecky at his word...then he prefers to be totally in the dark about injuries.
He even admitted before the Coventry game that when a player (Brewster) has a serious injury he never asks the medical staff for a timescale regards an expected return.
He said his attitude is "they are fit when they are fit" because he doesn't want to put pressure on that player.
He's either lying (which I suspect he is) or he has no forward planning regards squad strength and depth.

Also how come every other club and manager always give a rough estimate regards an expected return of an injured player.
Wouldn't surprise me if there's more to this and maybe the backroom staff have privately come under severe criticism regards our poor injury/ recovery record.
So Hecky has wisely decided the best policy is to protect his backroom medical team and keep everything related to injuries out of the public domain.

I hope that I’m wrong but I’m getting increasingly nervous that McBurnie’s continuing absence is another instance of Blades transfer flu…….

What would be more likely, (if you are looking for a conspiracy theory) is we have put a shite contract offer on the table and he's given himself another hernia laughing at it.

Hecky doesn't lie about injuries, he may be economical with the truth however regarding recovery times to keep the opposition guessing, why wouldn't he be?
