Here we are a month into the summer break from football a time for the players to have a well earned rest, a time for the clubs staff to hopefully bring in a few new players and improve the squad. The teams not involved in the playoffs have a distinct advantage of knowing where they will be next season three weeks before we do and two weeks before the losing semi finalists. Teams are putting this time to good use for e.g. Preston have just about signed a whole new team for next season while we have only published our released list.
While I know we need to bring in the right sort of player etc I do wonder how long we can afford to wait for existing players to decide whether to re-sign or look elsewhere. Time for Danny to get his finger out and slam a contract on the table for McDonald and friends tell em to sign by the weekend or point them in the direction of the door. We need to know now if we need to recruit a complete new midfield and strike force.
The concern is while these players are making up their minds we could be missing out. What a disaster it would be if in a months time or so they go elsewhere and we are left scraping the barrel to replace them, then there could be the usual United senario of Lowton and Maguire being sold just before the window closes and the uber reliable SUFC fax machine breaking down.
Come on Blades tie these players down to a contract and lets get moving forward, standing still is in effect going backwards. Others are recruiting at the Lane we have a wall of silence.
