probably at work...........
Sat at Mrs V's mums reading the Barnsley font of all knowledge (Dingle Chronicle) and it says that Willo is in talks with them after already having talks with us....

Players going from us to them as a step up.........bloody hell!

Clearly it isn't a step up in most ways - much smaller club, attendances about half ours, a millions miles behind us in terms of tradition etc - not to mention a sh!t-hole of a town.

Yes, they are in a higher division at the moment - but there's a good chance we could pass them in the next season or two.

Not sure who will offer Willo the better contract - but disappointing if we can't match them even when we are in a lower division.

If Willo has any loyalty or ambition he won't go there though....

If Willo has any loyalty

Why would moving to Barnsley be an act of disloyalty for a player out of contract?
It would also be more ambitious to move and play in the Championship than staying and playing in league one surely?

1. Championship or not it would not be a move driven by ambition for all the reasons I mentioned in my previous post; and
2. He may be out of contract but we've offered him a new one and it would be nice if he stayed to help get us back up.

....running water, literacy, paved roads, and our miraculous horseless carriages...

Of course it would be an ambitious move to play at a higher level than 3rd tier... whether they'll still be there in a years time is another issue. But at this moment in time we've not shown any ambition (publicly) to show that we're building a promotion team... that could quickly change with signings, but no harm in a free agent talking to teams in a league above.

If he was a bit younger then maybe he would sit it out with us and try and get us back up. But he's 30, and will probably only play at championship level for another 3-4 years max. Stands to reason he'd want to move to a club that can provide that.

It'd not like he'd actually have to live in barnsley either.

Take you red and white specs off Deano. Barnsley are in a higher division than us. FACT. Their recent history is very similar to ours. One year in the top flight in the last 15, pretty solid championship team and a little bit of 3rd tier experience. I have seen very little evidence that we will swap places with them.

A Bergen says, it is not like this has not happended before. Jan Aage Fjortoft left us to go to Barnsley who were then performing at a higher level.

Barnsly might be a shote town, crap stadium and have a small following, but they are a Championship team. A player with little allegiance to us would be daft to turn down a larger contract and a chance to play at a higher level at his age. It's not like he would have to go into Barnsley often. I guess he owns a place somewhere in the region after playiung for Rotherham and then us.

I'd guess that he'll sign for Barnsley on a 2 to 3 year deal with a relegation release clause. Who wouldn't want to play in the same side as Mido?
