The game was up as soon as the cowardly decision to play 4-5-1 was taken. I said a few weeks ago (and I wasn't the only one) that Monty's return to fitness combined with the striker crisis could see Wilson take the supposed "safe" option of 5 in the middle and 1 man on his own up front with no support, 2009 redux. And so it proved. How depressing. The defensive team never wins the playoff final.
Only once out of 4 of these games have United actually tried to take the game to the oppostion (in 2003). They have not mustered a decent chance in the other 3 games. Does nobody ever learn anything.
The irony is that Montgomery did absolutely nothing, and Porter could have played with no difference being made to midfield strength. That kid in goal was nervous and we should have tested him more.
Penalties are a lottery, but losing after the opposition miss the first 3 is criminal. Thanks for nothing, Andy Taylor. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Not one quality performance in 2 years, and cost us a promotion place with what I hope is his last kick for us. A fitting epitaph. As for Montgomery, they should just pay him up and get him out of the club so Wilson can't pick him.
Last season Huddersfield dusted themselves down, kept their key men, and had another go. That isn't the Blades way, of course. A losing playoff team must be completely dismantled! We have good young players under contract but they will be sold, and you'll hear a lot of bollocks from the club and on this board about us having no choice. Biggest club in the division? That's a laugh. Watch Coventry and Portsmouth both outspend and outplay us next year.
I am sick to the back teeth of this club and its players letting us down time and time again.
