Eh up Smithy - how's that Champers tasting?
Just come inside, champers has on been the cheap shite 'veuve clique', followed by a much better prosecco and now back to beer (Hunenburg brewery)... Kind of justified my decision for not going, but doesn't make it feel any better, just meant I could turn tv off, whack on the tunes and drink with friends in the sun here....

What a joke we are. Slipped down the leagues, pigs almost into admin yet were the ones below them....

We need to clear out the big earners

Yep. I thought you made correct decision given the distance and cost you face to get to game.
Went more in a sense of duty rather than any high expectation.
Same owd.

Tell yer what, let's hope it's a decade before we're put through that again. It really holds nothing special for us. £800M for that? Everything that's wank about modern football. A complete rip off at every turn, and extremely plastic. And we always lose. We'd really struggle to turn out any time soon for another.

Massive rebuilding job on the cards.
So many out of contract/will want to leave.
Lowton, Maguire(???), McDonald, Williamson, Monty, Quinn, Simmo and Cresswell.

i think quinn, willo, macca and cressy will stay

i think quinn, willo, macca and cressy will stay

Quinn will be sold (too good for league bobbar), Willo will not get a new contract (we cant afford him anymore), McDonald will get a better offer from a Champ side and leave but Cress might stay cos no one else will want him at his age

quinn will go because apparently he his too good for this level (can't see it myself but hey).. williamson 'is' too good for this level and so is macdonald.. monty is clearly premiership but i don't think he'll go despite a large queue of potential suitors and the endorsement of frank lampard

It would only spring a fucking leak

Aye, but it would get to the destination harbour first after a tortuous journey, then sink in calm waters just before the passengers stepped off.

Most clubs are non descript, at least were good at something. If anyone can do failure, we can

:)

The thing is with the wage cap, is that it will effect everyone. We're almost slitting our wrists like it's only us ? other teams will have to cut their cloth too. Don't assume we'll lose players to teams paying higher wages, as I think football is going to go through a big change at non-premier league level anyway......

Our turnover is probably amongst the highest in league football ? (certainly league one), so shouldn't we be at some kind of advantage with the new rules ??

Whenever I see suggestions like that, I think that's going to take up four players's wages. We've just seen us screw up after being unable to replace our main striker, aren't you afraid we're going to make the same mistake again?

Long, Howard and Willis will have to do.
If fans don't realise by now that we aren't going to get premier league players, third choice or not then they really are deluded. Firstly we can't afford their wages and more importantly they won't come to a league one side!

Transfermarkt.com (which i've found in the past to be v reliable) has it down that Cressy, Quinn, Lowton and Monty don't have theirs expire until 2013 or 2014, so at least we'll be looking for a fee if some of these players are that way inclined.

The problem is LM that we are already spend more than 100% of turnover on wages.
Not being promoted means that we have to adhere to the new rules next season.
Everyone else is already there or thereabouts on wages - we have to make the most swathing cuts of anyone.
That means a smaller squad (especially if we cannot shift high earners like Monty) and much lower contracts for anyone we attempt to bring in.
We won't lose players to teams paying higher wages - the players will be released because we cannot afford them and they will have to accept what they can get.

Our best players will be picked off by clubs in the Championship. Many have stayed to rectify the crap from last season but many will go because they will not want to face another season in the third division.

Our turnover will drop again next year - I reckon we will start to see 16k crowds and below because of the lower standard of player on show. I see absolutely no silver lining in any of this. It's not negativity for the sake of it. Realistic expectations require a realistic assessment of the situation. We are most definitely in the shit big style.

Keep Williamson and Harriott the rest can go.

We can get far better for the money that Simmo and Taylor are on, at this level

Well that's definitely the worst case scenario - we'll wait and see, and hope that I'm right ;)

Thats the issue I had with the new rules - surely the danger is that you end up in a vicious circle of reducing turnover leading to a cut in the wagebill, which leads to a cut in turnover.... Can high wage earners that are not out of contract be paid off before the start of next season without it impacting the wagebill (in terms of the rules) next season?

I would like to keep Willo, Quinn and McDonald but realistically I think another club will offer Willo/McDonald equivelant wages + better signing on fee at the level above. As for Quinn, I am sure a championship club will buy him.

I think we'll lose them all, however I'd like to keep McDonald and possibly Williamson but I'd happily let Quinn, Monty, and Simmo go and save £2 Million off the wage bill.
In reality I think Lowton and Harry will want out, as will a lot of the first team baring the likes of Doyle/Collins.

Keep Quinn, Lowton and Maguire if we can. Try to keep McDonald if there is a remote chance of doing so.

Anyone else out of contract, let them go.

I would keep Willo from that list and Macca the rest can go. Simmo if he wants to stay for 2 grand a week then maybe

I'd say why if we have Howard and Long. Too much wastes on a position we don't need covering. IMHO

Why?

Are they now too experienced to play League One football anymore? The only way either of those two will leave United is when McCabe does he usual and accepts a KitKat and a couple of conkers.

@BladesRumours tweeted a few mins agot that Willo is to be offered a new deal but that Taylor, Ertl and another unnamed player will be released

They will want to test themselves at a higher level, and earn more money.
Out of the two I'd say there would be more chance of Harry staying, but I think they will be both strongly advised to move.

The club should bend over backwards to keep Quinny , but I fear, like you say, a championship club will snap him up.

It makes my heart sink to think that, should there be a big clear out, next season we may have to put up with Monty and Doyle in the engine room again. Please football god, no.
