Disallowed Goal vs Blackpool

It was about the only time the Lino on the John Street put his flag up all afternoon, and typically it looks like he got it wrong.
I’ve seen the contact for the not given pen, which with VAR would have probably been one.
I’ve not seen the hand ball shout on anything, was it as clear cut as has been mentioned?

VAR gives it 100%. His arm way fully stretched out from his body and the ball hits near his elbow.
Not sure the ref saw it. It appeared to come through bodies from the view in the BLUT and the ref looked across at the Lino straight away.

It was on the wrong side for the Lino to pick it up and the ref could not see through a lot of bodies but it doesn’t matter we would have missed anyway

Impossible to tell from that angle.
McAtee didn't dive but contact was minimal at best. Asaba made the joke that we only need intent at Lane for a penalty to be given. Har har.

The handball was just pathetic.

watching the replay what makes it hard to take but unsurprisingly how terrible the referees were yesterday. i remember 1 point when the linesman in question just lifted his flag to bemusement of everyone around me & then because nobody paid attention he put it down. but he has a line because anel is on mown line & as you can see he is long way onside

the Handball as much as we hate it is why VAR was needed because it was ludricous handball, he had gone full maradona but there was so much happening in that penalty box its unsurprising. he didnt see it & unless your behind the goal. at full speed its impossible to give

There was alot of that yesterday. Ref looking at the Lino, lino looking at the Ref, realisation someone has to make a decision, panic and pick a decision at random.

Did that lino on John st give us anything all game ?
I seem to remember him giving Blackpool loads of free kicks but honestly cannot even remember him giving us a throw in, although surely he must have.

The standard of refereeing this season is appaling ,the worst I've ever seen
They just don't have any authority and seem to get everything arse backwards

Something needs doing about the shit housing and time wasting it spoils the customer experience

They seem to terrified of clamping down on it even.though all.professional footballers now will push the limits more and more on what they see as weak refereeing until you get a complete free for all like yesterday

It's fair to say that our game has got a major fucking problem with it's officiating.

Apart from South America, where they regularly have to make decisions under the threat of murder, there cannot be a consistently worse set of officials on the planet.

Defo handball,so Brewster should have had opportunity to redeem himself.

We were shocking at the back. Egan and RND for the second and third was just comical.

We were also toothless against 9 men. We kept giving it to RND but left him to try and get a yard on their RB to get a cross in. If we were going down that side then why - with a two man advantage- did we not overload it?

It was the first time he looked like he was awake all game.
Sadly he woke in a stupor and made a shit decision.

The standard of officiating in the English game leaves a lot to be desired.
Apparently the Premier league attracts the best players in the game due to the money/stature of the league - So I wonder why they don't try to bring in the best referees from around the world? (Which should in theory raise the level of officials in the EFL as some of the Premier league officials would be pushed down the rankings)

Problem now is that linesmen, especially in the Premier league with VAR are more or less pointless. They can flag for offside only for it to be checked anyway, so they don't bother. Whether that plays a part further down I can't necessarily prove, but it wouldn't surprise me. The second red for them yesterday, having seen the highlights back - it happened right in front of the lino yet he didn't wave his flag, instead, waiting for the ref to make a decision instead. That's just poor. They're supposed to help each other out which is why it's poor. Each one leaves decisions to each other.

The offside goal I can't pass judgement as I havent seen a decent angle. The handball is impossible for the lino to give as he was on the far side with almost every player blocking the view. I don't know where the ref was stood for it so I can't even slag him off for it. VAR gives it though.

My issue with VAR is that it isn't used all way down the pyramid. I get the costs, I get that it needs manning and the bodies just aren't there for 60+ 3pm kick offs. But it distorts everything. Referees in the PL can afford to give poor decisions as they're looked at. In the championship, not so. So the standard of referees will remain poor as the decisions aren't corrected. It's like a supervisor in any job. No supervisor and the lot goes to pot. That's what we're seeing.

Legitimate goal disallowed. Won a penalty. Equalised.

Not sure “toothless” is the word I’d use.

Here's why, it's harder than pulling hens teeth to get a job as a professional referee in England.

This article tells the tale of the crazy rigmarole Gillett from Australia had to go through to be allowed to referee in England.

It's not often a set of referees and assistants manage to piss off both sets of fans. Way too many big decisions wrong. Still better than having var though.
