Swansea should be fine. Preston police issues might mean it's off...
If Preston's off then they are all off - only reason they maybe off is pulling the plod into London and onto other duties to do with the Funeral etc.

Until we have all cried ourselves to ash, because mourning is now compulsory, and any enjoyment will be limited by those who aren't themselves inconvenienced.

Now get back to work.
Isn’t this a unilateral decision by the football authorities? Even the government said go ahead as I understand it so your ire may be misplaced.

I understand perfectly, if you want to carry on doffing your cap that's your perogative. Try to understand the Queens death means absolutely nothing to a hell of a lot of people, hard for you to digest but true.
You should show respect to the people who want to mourn and show there own respects.

I know just what he means. I was in the car when I heard and I'd just popped a Maynard's wine gum into my mouth. It just didn't seem right. But I'm sure Her Majesty wouldn't have wanted me to spit it out of the car window in the M42. I did the only thing possible. I ate it.

We can postpone one game I suppose but let's not get too soppy. As Monty Python said, She's a good Sheila and not at all stuck up.
Swallowed a wine gum ! Treasonous bar steward

HRH The Queen was a big fan of Ollie Norwood I believe , HRH thought he made us tick ✔️

Someone has made this point elsewhere, but a good explanation for this is that papers like the Mail, Telegraph, Times etc will criticise football for going ahead in a way that they are unlikely to criticise rugby or cricket

Utter bollocks

If you want to mourn fair enough

But why should people who have been working all week and looking forward to it miss out

My question WHY WHY cancel all football just do what Man Utd did last night. minutes silence black armband and national anthem

Again with respect just my genuine opinion

You are right about the footy but I was making a wider reference to the excruciating, dressed only in black, vomit fest that is currently in full flow on every terrestrial channel.

I'm not sure what you think this one actual match report, about a game that went ahead because thousands of Spaniards were in the country, nothing to do with the English FA, proves.

It probably proves that you don’t read The Times, one of the newspapers that you were generalising about, nothing else. Henry Winters is the best U.K. football writer, in my view, and I don’t think you’ll find a more balanced article anywhere, that’s his style. Whatever our views on the decision, we’ve just got to get on with it.

👍

the Queen was a remarkable lady who was respected and loved all over the world. It is right that her passing should be suitably marked and that those who want to mourn should be able to do. There are plenty of opportunities for people to do this and to pay their respects. She was 96 years old and it is right that she has a state funeral and service. In my view the service should be a thanks giving for her life and achievements.

Having said that I think that everyone can achieve what they want to do without the whole country being apparently shut down for 10 days or whatever. Why is it necessary to cancel all these sporting and other events? What real purpose does it serve? The Queen herself was keen on horse racing and her family support many sports. I am sure Her Majesty would have said please let my subjects continue with their normal lives as best they can and I don’t want life to stop. Let the sporting events carry on. At those events there could be a minutes silence to mark her passing. Apparently there was a dinner for 600 people at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield tonight cancelled and probably many other events all over the country. With the crisises we currently face this complete shut down is all we need.

PS I am not a republican and I am a great supporter of the Queen.

The whole country isn't being shut down.

Bert's Gentleman's Club is open tonight and he will be sat in his usual arm chair within.

God Save the King etc

Fair enough although very predictable to be honest. Do what I do, turn the tv off and put some music on. Job done.

I don't think the games have been cancelled to allow people to mourn, I also think that the tagline of 'as a mark of respect', is just because that is all you can say in a situation like this.

If the EFL/EPL came out and said we've got to cancel the games because we're not allowed to go ahead with games unless we have a certain quota of police, it wouldn't come across well. But that's probably the reason.

Oh I have. The headphones are firmly in. It's just proving difficult not to glare at the missus and mother in law when I pass through the living room, as they are both glued to the shite.

Have those annoyed with the TV coverage not established that every TV channel has a streaming service where you can watch whatever you want?

Postponed is the word you are looking for.

A lot of points I agree with pal but what I will say is this we are in a terrible cost of living crisis the economy needs constant financial input the queen would with respect want this country to carry on but my opinion is give the queen the respect deserved on the Sad day of her funeral until then carry on with life

My understanding is that King Charlie is looking for 'continuity', so the first thing the Herbert's do is postpone the football. Millions of ordinary people look forward to and love a weekend of football. Either going to a game or following the scores on tv or whatever. It takes their minds off the current reality of life.
Now they tell us we can't have that. I'm not on the royalist side of the coin, but don't have a problem with those who are. But come on. Apologies for the rant.

ps...I'm sure there was a full fixture list on the day of Churchills funeral, and every game went ahead, and some would say he was the greatest Brit of all time.

Once it was left up to the governing bodies they were always going to be off especially football. Just from the point of view of avoiding negative press the tabloids will have their scheduled coverage ready to roll but any additions will be jumped on especially if they’re negative as it will contrast well with the universal praise for the Queen herself.

This is just my opinion-
Take a look at the scheduled fixtures this W/E
There are two that stand out,the shit that will happen at those two is why they’ve cancelled ALL football
Mebbe take a look and it may be obvious why they’ve panicked and shut the lot down
Have a guess which two fixtures??

Just my opinion 👍
