It’s 18:35 on Saturday night. We’re drawing 1-1 with Stevenage after 60 mins and are therefore sat on 89 points.
Wednesday won 1-0 earlier in the day and have 90 points.
If things stay as they are, we will be relying on Wednesday not winning on the last day.
However, if Wednesday lose, a draw would be enough for us at Exeter.

Do you:-

A) Throw on an extra striker (or two) and pour men forward in a desperate bid to keep it in our hands going into the last game?
B) Keep it tight, take no risks and try to ensure we get at least a point, which could end up being decisive if Wednesday lose their last game?
C) Just carry on with our usual formation and tactics and hope that will get us through in the end?

For me it’s option C possibly reverting to option A with around 10 minutes left.

However, what it does show is that it’s actually an advantage to play after Wednesday and know their result as we can then adjust our tactics accordingly.

A) surely?

We need to keep it in our hands, we don't want to be relying on Wednesday to not win their last match at season at home.

D) Prepare properly throughout the week, ensure everyone knows their jobs and is at it from minute one to minute 90+ and put in a thoroughly professional, winning performance.

Our boys will rise to the occasion. UTB

Regardless of the result at Brentford we need to go all out for a win be it to stay in the race or charge over the winning line. DW has shown his patience over the season and for the most part it's paid off so I can't see anything changing. My worry, as posted elsewhere, is how many 'game changing' players are actually going to be on the bench on Satdi.

Very valid observation Jim Chimmerney ( Fleetwood),concerning that it will be very limited or limited now with losing two strikers and Cresswell carrying injuries.

Or E Score three in the next 10 minutes and its happy days

I posted this elsewhere, I think it applies here as well.

So clearly we want to Win on Saturday, but what might other results mean for us depending on the Wendy result at 3pm, assuming promotion is the prize, rather than being clear in second (@SwissBlade !!!)

Wednesday Win (they are 2 points ahead of us)
Clearly the worst result for us. Realistically we need to beat Stevenage in this scenario. A draw only helps us if we also draw against Exeter and Wendy somehow conspire to lose against Wycombe. If we are drawing going into the last 10 mins, you might as well go for it and lose as stick with a point.

Wednesday Draw (they are level on point with a much inferior GD)
A win puts us (as good as up), a draw doesn't really help, unless we manage to lose at Exeter and Wednesday only draw with Wycombe. Again you might as well go for it.

Wednesday Lose(they are 1 point behind with a much inferior GD)
Clearly the best result for us (duh!). A win puts us up (FACT!), and whilst a draw doesn't seem like a decent result, it would mean we only need to draw against Exeter to secure promotion (assuming Wendy don`t beat Wycombe 12-0). Even a loss is not fatal, as a win at exeter would see us promoted.

An interesting hypothetical BUT the Pigs won't win at Brentford. They are big strong committed hoofers and that won't be good enough against a decent Brentford team in a 'last home game' mood with everything to play for.

Plus Brentford play in a proper kit. That has to help.

Rumour has it they've being mixing the hoofing with a bit of passing football since Jones took over.
I realise that doesn't fit with your binary (either pass or hoof with nothing in between) view on tactics though ;)

I think a lot comes down to DW getting the lads focussed. All the fuss re losing our leading striker, needing to find a new strike partnership, Pigs winning etc - it's easy for players to feel "we're going to blow this" (how many of us feel the same?). DW needs to get the senior players to be setting the attitude.

It's do-able Blades - believe it!!

I think first half will be nervy on Saturday regardless of what the Piggies do.

So the important part of the game plan in the first half is keep it tight and don't concede.

Stevenage will want to win and secure their own place in the Play Offs. They'll be pushing forward early on, so whilst we don't want to get pegged back, we need to be soaking up their pressure. I see it as a cup game mentality in many ways.

What we need is to create an open game, keeping tight, but allowing Stevenage to come forward, almost coax them out.

Presuming that we use all our options in the game, With our midfielders, we can get behind them, use the pace of Flynn and O'Headless and get Macca putting the balls in behind them. Willo, Quinn, Lowton should be allowed to get forward and Porter/ BT/ Cresswell play the vital roles of holding balls up, winning the balls in the air etc. I don't see the central big target men actually getting the goals, I think they'll come from deeper or out wide.

The important thing is NOT to panic, but control the game, so this is a very long way of saying:

Don't panic and pass to Ched....................oh.

You think Flynn has got pace? Truly comical stuff - unlike your brainless idea to clap on 35 minutes in thanks of Ched Evans.

as far as i know, and im sure some pedantic fucker will correct me if i'm wrong but we will beat stevenage and we will beat exeter, so...erm what was the question again?
so i do appologise Sothall but you wasted your time and typing skillz, the whole question is a moot point :)

Being professionals wouldn't they be doing that anyway :)
