As Kev spends or spent a lot of time in Belgium, I did cynically think I bet he’s advising Bruges that Sheffield United will accept next to nothing for players, but then he forgot the fact he’s no longer at the helm 😆
"Excellent idea my friend, he he he! We get a great player for cheap price! OK, who do we talk to at SUFC?"
"Kevin McCabe"
"But you're Kevin McCabe!"
Room goes silent, everyone shuffles out of the boardroom.

"Trust me, there's no bigger Blade than me Seth, and I know they'll let him go for £400,000 and a bag of Fruit Pastilles"

'Who's Seth?'

Good on Berge as well.
Some players would have been encouraged by their agent to kick off and force the move through, just so that they can get another payday. But Berge has been getting on with his job completely unaffected by it all.

Mind you, the real acid test would have been if a Premier League club had gone to £20 million

Berge should be given a new contract now, showing him our appreciation with bigger wages, and a promise of more if we get promoted, and also with a promise to release him for £25 million - £30 million if we don't

Saw a report that Berge was the only player not to take a pay cut after relegation…

Time to move on from Mccabe, let it go and enjoy the positive times while it lasts, I don't want to look back on McCabes time negatively, of course he didn't get everything right but he didn't get everything wrong either, it's in the past, everyone will be feeling really positive now the window has closed, can see a really good positive performance on Sunday with a 0-3 win in the same manner as the Blackburn and Reading games.

I agree with the first half of what you say, but not the second. Society shouldn’t be such that people get pay rises simply for not being a twat, otherwise it encourages people to threaten to be a twat. He’s already being paid a lot of money to do a job, which is (currently) not yet finished. He’ll already have a good deal on his wages if we go up.

No idea about that PB, but I find it difficult to believe that one player would remain on the same salary when everybody else's was cut.

But even if we go up, he'll be in the last year of his contract, so negotiations should be taking place anyway.
It's not just rewarding Berge, it's protecting ourselves

Berge has had a few very good games, quite a few decent ones and the rest of the time he's been very poor or average in the last three years.

Suddenly he's Zidane and should be rewarded with a bigger contract.
He's good but a lot of people are getting very carried away.

People can trace my posts about him as far back as they want, if managers are going to use a player incorrectly he won't perform properly.
It's taken us two and a half years to figure that out.

A new contract protects us, not Berge, because the same problem is coming again in less than four months.

A new contract might only be possible if we agreed to a lower release clause, probably of no more than 25m, active if we don't go up. And I'd agree to that no problem - 25m is the maximum without PL status as leverage

If we don't go up this season , it will be virtually impossible to keep Berge , Anel & Ndiaye.
That's why this season is the shit or bust one.
It's a good job we're currently at maximum operation pebbledash

Surely the Kev fanclub who used to sit at the front at the fans fora and clap like demented seals must fear for the future of the club.

Every sale costing us promotion was defended with 'he's making sure we have a club to support' despite ot costing us more overall.

Honestly I don't think any owner in today's market would sell a talent for half what we paid him. This Prince v McCabe stuff is boring and total guess work at that.

It's really not.

I've been following us since 1981 and every other owner would have sold more over the last 12 months.

It's not like the Prince is evenwealthy in foorball terms. Similar to McCabe's in fact.

In the last 24 hours, many have shown themselves to be dour, negative, paranoid, bigoted or all of the above.

That includes the absolutely bizarre tweet from Carl Asaba. It was nothing more than a dog whistle to the fans who love to hate and who don't ever experience joy.

No other owner has had 200 million plus parachute to factor in (let's give McCabe and the prince 50/50 credit for promotion) It's impossible to compare. All we do know is we were the lowest wage payer in the Prem by a long way. That's all we can say as a fact.

If he caries on playing well I can see him going in Jan to Premier League club.

But time will tell.

Yesterday shows we can hold out for the price we want. Although Sander may push harder if there's a prem team sniffing.

Well said...totally agree....think Berge has a bit of the Norwood's about him.
Take the spot light off him, give him time and space and he's a really good player, especially in home matches.
However like Norwood, close him down, put him under pressure (especially physically) and he tends to struggle., especially in away matches.
In fact for someone so big....he's not that physical, doesn't seem to win headers like you would expect and struggles to stamp his authority on a game.

Berge is what you would call "a nice player", when you watch him he's a lovely player, he's so god damn stylish. The total opposite to McBurnie.
When Berge runs with the ball, he's so smooth and kind of glides with the ball, it's beautiful to see him play.
Where as McBurnie has a jerky Steve Clarridge running style likes he's knackered and always running with pain.
Berge doesn't pass the ball, he seems to effortlessly "stroke" the ball in the direction of our player.
When McBurnie passes he never looks as though he fully knows what he's doing ha ha.

You do sense though that Berge has potential to be better. As a defensive midfielder he's choosing the lazy option, the easy way out.
However persuade him to use his size more and be more aggressive making forward runs and trying shots, then I believe he has a bigger future.

Haha, at the Steve Claridge running comparison
