I still feel smug about it though. It must highlight a difference in defence quality between PL us and PL Forrest. Deano had to save our skin a few times but he never had to deal with that kind of assault.

I think man city are even better now than they were then. Signing Harland has literally put them in a league of their own, even Liverpool look much worse. Until Newcastle start spending sully money no one will be able to challenge city.

Then you look at Leeds and Southampton and Norwich etc. They all get smashed at least once per season. We didn't get smashed. I think we only conceded 4 goals once in 2 seasons up there.

Doesn't mean anything though. It's the wins column and points column that matters most at the end of the season.
Losing by 1 goal is still losing.

People will probably move on when the impact of the event is no longer felt. That clearly isn't the case now, even for those not born at the time (I'm 27).

The chant is about what happened during the strikes in the 80s, and chanting it helps to retain a collective memory about the event.

You are right, most people in the stands at the City Ground won't be scabs, but the same can be said for hundreds of other chants that aren't literally true: "town full of smackheads", "your mother is your sister", "United hate fucking cockneys", "McBurnie scores, we're on the pitch" etc.

Agree. The 'scab' chant is usually pre-ceded by the Forest fangs singing 'Sign on......' though. Not sure how much it would be sung without that.
I am 58 so I lived through the miners strike, the crap of the early 80's has re-surfaced the feeling now as we see a lot of history repeating.
But the football stuff is just a way to find banter between the fans.........which I still enjoy even though I am an old fart now, sit in the Westfield corner and only sing the GCB!!!

Its not necessarily about deposing the Tories but more so to fight for better pay/working conditions. As an ex public servant I was part of a group of staff that received derisory pay awards year on year (usually no more than 1% and effectively a pay cut for over 10 years).
At a time when big private businesses, providing public services, are registering astronomical profits and dividends to shareholders whilst the average worker is being called militant/greedy/unreasonable etc and the cost of living is spiralling out of control then a general strike is a last resort to prevent people dropping into poverty.

No way, they're better than before granted, but you look how City are demolishing teams and then Arsenal sneak past Villa at home. Granted it should have been much more for Arsenal than 2 - 1 but I still think Liverpool are the next likely challengers but they look way off City for me. Arsenal have improved but not enough to challenge City, in my view anyway.

My Dad was a miner at Yorkshire Main. I had school uniform from the YPO and had to eat Yeomans fucking Mash for a year. I'm over it now though.

The inflation is from years of printing money, which went into overdrive during idiotic Covid lockdowns. That, coupled with shutting down economies over a cold caused the inflation we all feel today. The war was a convenient excuse for the inflation.

I totally get that sentiment to be honest, it is very difficult to want him to do well there, same for MGW because of the nature of the defeat to Forest left a very bitter taste in the mouth. I would say in my time supporting United, post 1989, the rivalry with Forest is as strong as it has been for any team bar Wednesday. West Ham was obviously strong for years after but that has largely passed now, maybe it will with Forest but the geographical reality that we're near neighbours will always mean there's more rivalry with Forest than there is with others. You've got Derby also at a similar distance but I've never felt the rivalry for them that I do Forest. I've also lived in Nottingham and that gave me first hand experience of their dislike for Yorkshire and it does feel like they look down on Yorkshire, I have experienced that in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire saying that! It is largely banter but it doesn't warm me to Nottingham, I didn't find Nottingham a warm place to live like it is anywhere in Yorkshire in my experience, certainly South and West Yorkshire.

Forest as a club reminds me of Wednesday to be honest, but in Nottingham. I hope they're relegated this season and end up financially screwed.

Agree with all that, never felt much animosity towards Derby, but always have for Forest.

One of my favourite Great-Uncles moved to a Nottingham suburb some time in the 70s/80s, he wasn't a massive football fan, but always liked United if any team.

My Dad took me to see Forest versus United in 1992, and we took my Uncle and a friend of his who was a Forest season ticket holder, and obviously knew his football and Forest's history.

In the car on the way to the ground, I have a very clear memory of the superiority complex from him about Forest, the intrinsic belief that they played football the right way and them being in the elite of English football. Also the patronising way he talked about United felt like that we were turning up to get beaten by the mighty Forest.

After we BATTERED them 5-2 he didn't have a great deal to say on the way back and looked quite ill
