I struggle to remember how we fared against teams the previous season but think that it‘s a reasonable indicator of how we’re doing this season by comparison, so have compiled the attached table. I have substituted the promoted and relegated teams with the teams that replaced them, eg Burnley were top of the 3 relegated teams, so are allocated the Fulham scores, and have included the cumulative points that would have been gained if we had played them in the same order last year.

This is purely for interest, it has no scientific value whatsoever, but I’ll keep it updated and we’ll see what it tells us at the end of the year.

Good idea.

Often my mind drifts to this way of thinking.

It will be interesting to follow.

Might be better just snagging a photo of the sheet as most can’t be arsed to open or download stuff!

Can't open it.

Mine opens OK but I have to open it using the stock Apple spreadsheet app called "Numbers".

So far we are showing a big improvement on last years results against the same opposition.
On Tuesday night we play a team that beat us 1-2 at the Lane, so we have another opportunity to extend the gap directly compared to last season.

I like this idea - I love stats.
What would help is a colour key for the row - the same result - Black, better result - Green, worse result - Red.

Another poster used to post a graph based on the same concept on a regular basis. Some people were so adamantly against that they used to go to the thread every week to post about how pointless and irrelevant it was. I never quite understood why it evoked such strong passions, but it made for an entertaining thread - and personally I think it’s an interesting way of assessing our results.

Looks good Trafford , I love stuff like this.

If I were to be super picky, I think it would benefit from making the headers clearer i.e. specifying that columns C-E relate to this season, and F-H are last season. Otherwise it took me a minute to work out what I was looking at. Maybe also adding an extra column with the cumulative points difference i.e. showing that we are currently +7 points compared to last season.

Now we just need to keep up this record of averaging a point per game more than last season and we’re on course for 121 points 😁

Great stuff.

I’d recommend a “This Season” heading across the top of columns C/D/E and a “Last Season” heading across the top of columns F/G/H.

Also a Column I headed “Comparison” which is Column E minus Column H would be helpful.

Edit: ignore this, wrote it before Bristol’s virtually identical post appeared!

Great minds.

Tonight definitely cause for some cum points. Seriously though makes for nice reading.

You might want to check your formulas on row 22, they appear to have got a bit screwy.

Odd that we’re in a run of 10 games from which we got just 7 points last season. How did we not get relegated?!

13 first games, only qpr home negative on last season, two upcoming games with a possible +6 and hopefully players back. No reason not to be positive.
