Some good arguing now to bolster the page numbers.

Pretty sure in the early pages I was pretty certain he'd be sold. And I thought it made financial sense...

Well I'm feeling reckless now and hoping we don't sell him. Proper wildchild.

It's just too late to sell Berge now, we'd have no time to recruit to fill the gap. We don't have the same owners we used to have and as Hecky put it, the closer it gets to the end of the transfer window, the higher the value of the player in terms of potential losses if we don't replace.

I'm really not sure a like-for-like replacement would be sought - Khadra, McAtee and Ndiaye can all play #10 - I'd have thought any proceed given to PH would be better directed to recruiting another goalscorer and CM. If the recruitment team is doing their jobs, they'll have options lined up that should be able to executed at relatively short notice

We also have Bogle to attack down the right, when fit.

I'm similar. I made a case for selling Berge, only on the provisio that we could reinvest the funds. I thought 3 or 4 signings around that £3-4m mark at this level could make us a better, more balanced side overall.

However, the way Berge has started this season has caused a complete U-turn on that thinking. He's now the heartbeat of the team and taking games by the scruff of the neck, attributed I'd never seen in him previously. I knew his potential and his footballing abilities but I didn't know he could lead. Keep Berge, avoid injuries, this squad has enough.

Go with what we got springs to mind?!

Never been. Why is that?
The town of Como is very small and quite (when the tourists have gone), it's not pretty in any way, the views are fantastic and the really expensive house owned by celebrities are up in the hills, we did some nice boat rides and saw some fabulous scenery but not much else - except as I said it's only thirty minutes from Milan by train

I agree with you, but suspect there'll be nothing left to reinvest. Darren Smith suggested we need to raise £15m - and without wanting to start another argument, most sensible people don't think we'll be getting much more than that (do they?).

Less than a week now.

Can we have a countdown clock?

Ideally with Vorderman revealing her fake bazookas if he stays.

Can’t help on the tits but plenty of them in the McBurnie thread….

A couple of times this summer the owners have let it be known (via their favoured journalists) that Berge can go for the right offer; that they'd like to have his release clause met but would be prepared to let him go for about what we paid for him.

It goes without saying that you don't mention the lower number if you're going to hold out for the release clause amount. I think it's also very likely that Berge has been told he can leave if the offer approaches what we paid for him. Therefore, the only way we go above what we paid for him (20 or 22 million, whatever it was) is if there's a bidding war.

On the other hand, this ownership has shown no signs of accepting lowball offers for our players and Berge hasn't downed tools or sulked. I used to think we'd be under major pressure to sell (Berge and possibly others) this summer but it doesn't seem to be the case--the owner might be having another tilt at promotion as a way of solving the financial issues at the club. So I don't think we'll accept anything as low as £15m. I think if it comes within touching distance of what we paid--say £20m--I think we'd be tempted and Berge would feel justified in asking for a move.

I don't think that fee is massively inflated given the player's qualities and form in the last 9 months or so.
