I did ankle ligaments as a youngster, never been right since and it's 20 years on. Was out for a good 8 months (yeah i don't get specialist treatment these fellas do), but also everytime i played after, I had to strap it up as it would swell up after every match.
 
It's strange, if playing with just one CF then we have;

Brewster
McPub
Jebbison
Ndiaye
Osula

That's not inconsiderable. And in terms of potential it's awesome

But it still feels like someone like Sharp is needed if we wanna go up
 
Gutted for Billy, but being as we have Brewster, McBurnie, Jebbo and Osula, with Ndiaye as an option, I'm not too worried.

Would still prefer a combative midfielder if we had a choice of new signings.
 
I think our game/squad has evolved to need to rely less on our Billy than before.
Yes, of course he's a top finisher and would love him to be fit and available, but we seem to be developing into a team of all rounders with enough skill to be able to create chances for anyone from anywhere.
We almost don't need an out and out old fashioned centre forward, and for when we do, we have Brewster+ for the finishing, McB for if we need to go more direct.
Billy's record speaks for itself, and with any other set up I'd be far more worried if we didn't have the creativity and 'goals from anywhere' potential we have now, but still want him in and around in any capacity, the true professional and superb advocate for our club that he is.

Plenty have been bad luck but I hope there's some serious assessment going on too.

I'm struggling to remember so many continuous injuries over a sustained period in my decades following us.

Yep, if its an injury this bad surely someone of his experience should have known
 
It says "damage", that's a completely meaningless report
 

Brewster, McBurnie, Jebbo and Ndiaye fighting for one place should be enough when you look at it on paper. The issues are of course that 3 of them have delivered very little so far and 2 of them are coming back from long injuries.

It's obviously a gamble banking on one of McBurnie and Brewster to dramatically improve but in terms of Championship pedigree, I doubt we'd attract anyone better. I understand the shouts from Grabban but with one slot in the team available he'd have to be a certain starter to make it worthwhile and I imagine the club would rather try and get something from the £40m or so we paid out for McBurnie and Brewster rather than throwing money at an aging striker with no sell on value.

It's a blow but we shouldn't be expecting someone at Sharps age to play more than 10/15 games a season anyway. I wanted a striker in all Pre-Season but I also understand Heckingbottom saying you can't just write off the big money and big wages we are paying for players already here. We have 2 strikers who scored goals in The Championship just a few seasons ago and they now need to prove they are still up to it at this level

Yeah, well McBurnie has soon played 100 league apperances, with 7 goals to show for it. I do think there is still a small chance he could come decent but that chance is decreasing with every match.

42 league matches without a goal now. 1 goal last 56. Those numbers are astonishingly bad for a midfielder, let alone a striker.
 
Was obvious from Billy's absence at the end of last season that we must stop relying on him.
But we don't seem to take heed of the warning signs.
Just watched Sky's reel of MGW goals for us last season + compared him to Brewster & McB.
Oh dear.
 
I suspect he will be back some time towards the end of the season to make some farewell appearances from the bench…

….but I fear we may have seen him start his last game us.
 
Now I'd take Grabban if hes free, and send zosula to Rovrum for 6mnths.

Same here I did my ankle when I was 18, trainer gives me the magic spray and I carried on playing, the worst thing I ever did a few hour later I was in A&E for Xrays with an ankle twice it normal size, I could only get my carpet slippers on. That ankle has always been as week as hell ever since any slight sprain is always worse on that ankle.

Ah shit, I’m 2 1/2 weeks into recovery for ankle ligament damage, thought I’d maybe got a minor fracture, but thankfully not after an X-Ray.

Us mere mortals don’t get offered MRI scans, so no way of telling the exact damage just really hoping it doesn’t cause long term issues, but I’ve read it’s quite common with ankle ligaments, hopefully not for Bill though.
 

These fellas aren’t your normal blokes, especially ones of Sharps age. His ankle will have been over numerous times over the years and the ligaments themselves more resistant to damage that normal blokes might be.
Fancy modern techniques and technology can heal injuries better these days, but even then it’s likely to be 6 weeks at best.

What do United do? Well given McB has proven to be a liability with injury there is a question mark over him even without looking at what he brings to the side. Though for 15 mins other night he did well be all accounts.
Brewster too has had his injuries, and save the period before his last injury has also failed to live up to expectations.
Jebbo….cant put my finger on it but I don’t think he offers a threat at this level. Yet.
Osula…as Jebbo. Though I think he will be a better player in the end.

So for me, it’s a risk now if we don’t look to cover his injury. We have to get a full prognosis because we cannot afford to get to the windows and then find out he’s done til next year. If that’s the case we need cover for him. If a specialist this week says longer than 6 weeks I think we have to pull the trigger and get someone in.
Osula was going out on loan IMHO but if he’s not ready to play there’s no point him being here. Send him to L1 and get game time and goals.
