Oh dear. I guess you're referring to those who suggest our away performances aren't good enough? No manager puts a team out and tells them to lose a game. But Heckys tactics in away games whereby we just don't attack mean we're going to concede at one point. Yes we lost in the cup. No we don't need the distraction (but by miracle we do win just play the reserves anyway). But away from home we just aren't good. And winning breeds confidence.
 
QPR away in a must-win being the anomaly


Huddersfield 0-0
Coventry 4-1,
Blackpool 0-0
Millwall 1-0,
Stoke 1-0,

5 away games in a row there last season. 1 goal. And that was in a defeat. Watford and now West Brom. Its a serious issue. Not one that can be glossed over because tonight was the cup.
 
I'm guessing tonight's result ensures that in future we'll be limiting ourselves to scared back 3 performances away from home rather than scared back 4 performances

Tonight's failure means no more experiment matches, which means less chance of switching to a back 4, which means less chance of change

I trust we'll carry on with the try to draw every away game approach. Let's just hope we get 23 home wins

The tactics are absolutely baffling to me
 
Not to stick the boot in as frankly who cares about the cup in but found it really odd to switch formations…. To one we’ve had little success with when trying to embed new players.

You’re asking the likes of Doyle, Khadra, Anel, Mcatee and arblaster to come in and learn the system - whilst not actually playing the system that we usually play. Seems a false economy in a glorified friendly!

Imo much better to play the usual formation and get them game time in that formation. Might only be subtle tweaks but attackers will be in different positions, runners will come from elsewhere compared to the usual formation - so doesn’t seem conducive to getting them embedded into a well oiled machine
 
I've not seen it tonight, or listened to it. But it's the cup with half a first team. It's not a big deal. What is a big deal is the lack of competition for Fleck, that needs addressing before the window closes.

That's the issue. Its not whether we're out of the cup or not or whether we need the fixture pile-up, it extends a lot further back and needs addressing. I was looking forward to watching us on Sunday but I'll be watching hoping we just don't lose. That's not the attitude to have at all but it's how it's become.

And as a poster mentions above, we've played a new system with new players. Yet just the other day he told us he didn't bring McAtee on with 10 minutes to go because he didn't know how we played off the ball. Does that make any sense? He's basically hung him out to dry there.

I'm not calling for the managers head by the way. But unless the away attitude changes we cannot go up. Even with 23 home wins.
 
I'm abit surprised people still haven't realised we play training games against other teams or in-house friendlies during the season when we can try new formations and help new players learn the system.

Being out of the cup doesn't mean there's no chance for the new players to learn the system 🤷‍♂️
 
Just to play devils advocate, we have also beaten two Premier League sides in Fulham and Forest away under Heckingbottom and took a point against the play off finalist. You could also spin it that we've won 2 of the last 3 away games in the league.


I do get the concerns though and it will become a real talking point if we meekly lose the next couple of away games. I can't comment on tonight and I don't think much, if anything, should be read into the result/performance but there is no doubt we have had 4 or 5 total no shows away from home under Heckingbottom since New Year. Serious questions will start being asked if we have another 2 or 3 before the break.

We did beat forest away, but just like QPR, it was a must-win. Fulham I give you that one. We beat Brum as well which is as rare as owt. There are away wins in there, nobody is denying that. But it's the general manner of the performances

I agree with you on the Forest and QPR games, and I'm not trying to defend the away form because it's been really frustrating to watch, but we have shown we can get good results away.

Complete waste of time carabao cup. loads of subs. I think the managers use it to get more fitness more game time etc. not just our manager all managers.
not fair on supporters to pay for travel food etc. and time off work.glad I did not go.

If Norwood puts that pen away 3-0 up at ht,we would have seen some new signings and give them a run out for 30mins or so,but because he missed we had to play safe.
 
Along with injuries, Hecky's negativity is the main reason we'll fail

Said so after the Millwall game but because we won the comment was invalid and attracted a few laughey faces

Think he'll safely get us in the play offs though and keep his job, so for a caretaker thats above average
