So many attacking options....

..to choose from. We might still be an experienced striker short, but the line behind looks as exciting as any team that I can remember us putting out.

It's going to be difficult for Hecky to get 3 of Berge (assuming he stays) Khadra, Ndaye and McaTee into the same team, never mind all of them. But that gives us excellent strength and options from the bench.

Very happy with this window so far.

Berge might drop back. So it's 2/ 3 of Ndiaye / Khadra / McAtee.
If it works, it gives us mobility and ball carrying through the middle and helps link the play.
Heckingbottom suggested this would be the plan in his interview today.

Berge cannot play deeper he just can't do it in English football. He looks lost. It takes away the threat he offers too.

Egan and Basham are pretty crap in a back two so unless anel and Clarke are the two I don't see it working.

Hopefully Bogle isn't too far away.

A few weeks ago, tongue in cheek, I suggested that we'd be going all out attack without an actual striker.
It's starting to look like my 'comment' could be correct!

It doesn't seem viable to me anymore to sacrifice an attacking player to continue with the back 3 / wing back system which has lost much of its effectiveness

Its a perfect chance to move away from the back 3 with the changing personnel there

LCB and LWB gives us 2 potential weak links. CB and LB in a 4 gives us just 1, or maybe 0 weak links

4 3 3 would accommodate our best attacking talent. So for now we should go with it. Its the time of the season to try new things, if you're going to

Bogle coming back might change things though, because he's a massive factor at RWB but it also depends just how well he comes back
A back 3 works well with a CDM, but I can't remember the last good one we had ,maybe Doyle will be the missing piece of the jigsaw
Wes
Anel Egan Clark
Baldock Doyle RND
Berge
McAtee Ndiaye Khadra

I'd start Berge deeper but still give him the license to get forward. Between him and Doyle they'd just need to communicate well enough so that only one of them joins attacks

Our FA cup run under Clough was only possible because of our False Nine formation in my opinion.

I'd worry about Berge playing deeper, if he is alongside Norwood, as I can see them being over run. If he's alongside Doyle that could be a different matter though.
That being said if we have the others on the field, the opposition might be too busy trying to get the ball out of their final 3rd.

Berge/Ndiaye/McAtee 2 of them and McBurnie/Sharp/Jebbison 1 of them the way forward.
Good options to secure one of the top 2 spots this season, but looking ahead (hopefully with promotion in mind) will we have McAtee next season ? and Billy will certainly be a fringe player. It's also options for next season - that's the worry (with my glass half empty hat on).

We had nothing on the bench last night, good job the 37 year old still had the legs in the 90+4 to score.
Billy certainly has lost that bit of pace up top, doesn't always get the service from the midfield and gets some stick on here (me included sometimes) - but what a quality finish that goal was.

Ndiaye Jebbison McBurnie could be brilliant if we can have a suitable midfield 2 behind them
I’ve said it before but N’diaye is wasted as an out and out striker. Much more effective running at them from deep as an attacking midfielder. He has the engine and the ability to frighten opposition players running from deep.
HIs engine allows him to get back and fill defensive gaps too.I don’t believe that Berge or McAtee have the capacity for that dual role. They are better deployed as attacking midfielders.

To answer the earlier question, McAtee will not stay here next season. He has made such good progress this season, Pep will want him back to warm the bench at Man City. (What a waste).
