Thoughts on the kit?

Someone inside the club told me recently we were trying to extend with adidas for another year, just as we did last year, as UW wanted to work with Errea for a year before making the switch for their lead club (us).

They couldn’t agree with adidas for whatever reason. If that’s true - and I have no reason to not believe it - then everyone needs to calm their shit. It makes sense and puts United first in terms of working professionally by working with Errea for a year. The adidas thing collapsing could have been out of United’s hands meaning the Errea agreement suddenly has to be fast tracked.

I myself see no issues. It’s later than other clubs but so fucking what? It’s not actually late as the nobody has ever promised anything. The leaked shirt has nothing wrong with it at all. It’s literally what most people always ask for. It’s only the made up delay shit and the brand snobbery what is tainting peoples view of it. Stick Laver+Adidas on it and everyone is suddenly frothing at the gash for it.

Because these things are clearly subjective and I don’t like it . The trim on the neck could have more detail (why not white-black-white, like the 70s shirt it’s trying to replicate?). The badges look too high on the shirt and the material looks terrible.

Anyway, I don’t particularly care. As long as the team is performing well.
You have judged the material of a shirt in a photo that has been JPEG’d multiple times.

One thing Errea can’t be accused of is using cheap material. No other sportswear manufacturer goes in to the level of detail that Errea do in material research on their website. I know little about Errea but material is seemingly something they pride themselves on.

I genuinely don’t know if these comments are a piss take, are people really that arsed about the branding? They’re all made in identical sweatshops anyway
Well yeah, serious to an extent. Why wouldn't we be?

It's hard to describe it, but there's subtleties about that design that hardly scream 'top quality'. I take your point about sweatshops though.

For me, it's not about crying about having a certain brand - I'd take any of the more major manufacturers. Instead, it's about club image - the ground, the state of the training ground, the effectiveness of the youth set up, the quality within the current squad, the presence of the manager/coaches, the match day atmosphere, the social media presence, and the branding of the kit and training kit.

The latter isn't a deal breaker as such in itself, but it's about a club that has an image throughout, that promotes quality and ambition - if you're to recruit your transfer targets and the best youngsters (on top of wages, of course). The former factors are more crucial of course they are, but it's about the club looking like a quality organisation from top to bottom and the kit is the cherry on the icing on the cake. For me, our training ground will be blown away by other teams' facilitates, and Errea just looks a tad more tinpot that say Adidas did. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The stitching of the Errea logo looks like its been sewn by hand too 🤣

And why no border round it? 🤷‍♂️

They’d just wear the boring red and white stripes wouldn’t they?
Nobody knows if its its just red and white stripes or boring. Hell nobody even knows if we will have a kit ready haha
On what planet would our red and white shirts clash with Watford's yellow?get drunk then post stuff on here without reading stuff first.

I should not get drunk then post stuff, i have taken the piss out of others for doing so, i feel like a tit.

Many people on here, 50%? hated Adidas, mainly because of their plain backs and sleeves.
This Errea kit addresses that which is welcomed, big time.

I'll reserve further judgement until i see the shirt in the flesh, but i would confidently guess the material quality will be nowhere near that of Adidas. A good feel material will really rescue this shirt. If it doesn't have one, and it's just one piece of polyester throughout, it's going to be a poor effort. Compare Macron to Adidas shirts in terms of the actual quality of the garment - ignore the design.

It's like anything, you want a new golf t-shirt, you don't go straight to Sports Direct for a Donnay do you.

Errea have missed 2 big things here which would have made it tons better - a border around their logo and two (or three) tone collar/cuffs. If they'd done that, the material issue wouldn't be so bad. It's like tendering for a project - the whole process is scaled, for example:

Design 33%
Quality of material 33%
Cost of shirt 33%

What we seem to have here is an "ok" design". The quality and cost are yet to be determined.

If it says it on their website, it must be true!

I realise it’s a picture btw; that’s why I said it “looks” terrible, not “is” terrible.

I like it.

What I find weird to read (and everyone has the right to their own opinion) is that, year after year there are posts lambasting overly complicated designs, experimental creations at the expense of tradition, kit makers inserting their own design beliefs rather than embracing the identity of the clubs.

The, "How hard can it be to create a simple Sheffield United FFS" "Why can't we have stripes on back and sleeves" "Just simple red and white stripes" rhetoric. I'm paraphrasing obviously because I can't be arsed to trawl through and find them.

So, we get one - with almost everything we've asked for - simple stripes front, back and sleeves, black pin stripes, no fussy trim, no fancy collars (ok so it's not a retro V neck) and now according to many, it looks too simple, no effort put in, and cheap. It could be one of the most divisive shirts we've ever had.

If we were with Nike we could copy the hidden snake template Inter used last season but hidden amongst the red and white stripes.

Two birds, one stone…….

Oh, why are the sleeves folded over?

People don’t know what the word ‘bespoke’ actually means.

I had to google the differences but it appears these days custom and bespoke can be used to describe the same thing. But yeah, it appears most people didn't really know what bespoke actually meant.

Making it more like the designs you made? Maybe yours just aren’t that good. 🙃

United have had a say in the design rather than picking a template Errea have sent. That alone makes it bespoke.

Bespoke to me would have been incorporating a few details unique to us in it. More excited about the socks for that reason. You can of course say every football kit is bespoke if it has the club badge on it but I was hoping for something with a bit more to it than those pictures.

Can't please us all though. Some people insist the championship promotion shirt isn't appalling 😵‍💫

Who at United? And when can we ask for them to be unjustifiably sacked?

Do we wait for the official release or go straight in on a sponsor less, unironed shirt off Twitter?

I'll get the pitchforks! 😁

They're not to everybody's liking, that would be an impossible task. I would place a big wager though that if the club had presented these designs to the fans to vote on, #4 doesn't win...

Fair enough. Only 1 possibly beats it though for me. 2 and 3 definitely don’t. But you’re striving for the perfect kit right now. What bout next years kit? Maybe that will have tri-colour cuffs and collar.

I'm just very underwhelmed by it in all honesty, i'll still buy it and never wear it as I do with all my shirts 🤣

The anticipation combined with the leaked poor quality photo probably doesn’t help. It might even just be an early prototype. Take a step back, go and look at some other shirts from our history and I think you’ll soon realise it’s right up there with one of our best.
