David Brooks - 21, attacking midfielder, one good season in the Championship, sells for eight figures
Reda Khadra - 21, attacking midfielder, one good season in the Championship, four years worth of transfer inflation since we sold Brooks, "couple of million absolute tops". I mean if Brighton are negligent enough to only have Khadra contracted through 2024, then maybe, but Brighton don't strike me as that sort of club
Khadra hasn’t had one good season, he showed signs of brilliance but was largely frustrating. His stats back this up entirely which is why there isn’t a line or clubs fighting us for his signature. It’s a gamble.
But he’s got tonnes of ability and he’s so young he could be a great player for us. Definitely think more Ndiaye at the start of last season than MGW.
He’s also out of contract next summer, so you can at least halve any figure you were thinking of after those facts which I reckon is £2M absolute tops.

Khadra's stats last season were almost identical to Brooks's in the season before he got his move to Bournemouth.

Was just commenting, Brooks showed moments of brilliance too but was also frustrating.
Yep, he tended to vanish at times, as young players often will. It was the next season, his first with Bournemouth, where he really blossomed.

The difference between them being Brooks went to the PL but it appears that no PL club is interested in Khadra.

Well, one already owns him! And he had a trial at Man Utd before he signed for Brighton. He also seems to have attracted interest from the German top flight this summer.

But I take your point. He maybe hasn't done as much as Brooks had to make people sit up and take notice, regardless of the stats. But I don't think he's any more inconsistent than other flair players are at his age--including Brooks, but also MGW before he came to us.

What stats are you looking at? I don’t know if he’s more or less consistent than Brooks as I’ve not seen him play much.

Just goals and assists. The season before he left us for Bournemouth, Brooks got 3 goals and 4 assists in 30 league games. Last season, Khadra got 4 goals and 2 assists in 27.

I’m not sure that’s particularly conclusive. If he’d have played for Blackburn like Brooks did for us, I doubt we’d be getting a look in. I’d have expected Brighton to give him a new contract and play him.

I don't think it's conclusive, either.

I disagree with the rest of your post, though. I think Bournemouth in the summer of 2018 were in a quite different place than Brighton are in the summer of 2022. Do you think the Brooks of 2017-18 gets in the current Brighton side? I don't.

I like the idea of a loan with a clause - a try before you buy as it were.

I’d even be willing to pay a small premium for that option. Maybe you could arrange it with a price if we go up and a price if we don’t - that way Brighton can benefit if he does well enough to help earn promotion and we can still have a sensible price at which we could still do business in the championship if he wanted to stay.
