Striker

Fair enough Billy, but then they are your opinions. So, in effect, you don’t actually know whether Hecky is eyeing up a striker or not?

I see it a little differently.

McBurnie not paying his way in front of goal. Not all his own fault. Stop start season. Injuries, as well as firing blanks when he’s had chances

I think one of Jebbo/Osula to go out on loan. Btw, it’s my belief both could have a very good future in the game…………… ………eventually

Billy not even training yet

That for me leaves at least a 3/6 month loan if the right player becomes available

Also, Hecky has said on more than one occasion that even if they get their quota in, if another player becomes available and Hecky fancies it and PA agrees, then they may still be open to trying to bring that player in as well. No reason why that couldn’t be a striker.

Obviously, I could be spouting complete bollox. Just my opinion.
Looks a pretty balanced view of our options

Grabban scores goals. As does Sharp and potentially Brewster. My concern is who creates them. We are very good, if at times a little slow with the ball in possession, we have a number of players who are very good at carrying the ball and beating men...Khadra maybe another. But, I always felt, we endlessley shot ourselves in the foot with poor crossing or final ball last season. I don't know what the plan is for Doyle. But, I don't see us improving this area as yet.

Seems like hecky has ruled out another striker, instead focusing on a number 10

That makes more sense if Berge leaves

But we'll still regret not signing a CF. And signing one, especially a physical presence, would go some way to replacing Berge

My main concern with our strikers is injuries.

We have

Sharp, McBurnie, Brewster but all 3 are likely to pick up injuries. They have over the last couple of years and 2 are still injured.
Ndiaye struggles to play 90 minutes
Who knows what we're doing with Jebbo and Osula

We have enough strikers. More than enough strikers. If they're fit.

Especially since we now can make 5 substitutions.

If promotion is the aim then going into the season with the current set of strikers isn't going to be enough.

We don't have a fit & firing proven goalscorer amongst them.
Sharp is the nearest we have, but we broke him last season and now he's making his way back from a fairly long-term injury another year older.
Nobody else can be relied upon at the best of times and these aren't the best of times in terms of their fitness (McBurnie / Brewster) or stage of development (Osula / Jebbison).
Thought Ndiaye was pretty reliable towards the end of the season.

He missed some pretty big chances, none more so than the Forest play-off game.

He's not that confident in front of goal. He had a few chances in the pre-season game against Lincoln to pull the trigger and he made the wrong decisions.

Cracking player. But he's not a centre forward.

I do wonder if we'll look, in the long run, to use him as an attacking midfielder. I think if he bulks up a bit he'd be much better at retaining possession. Just needs to work on decisions, but that comes with experience.

Totally agree. He needs to be more ruthless in his decision making.
Make a decision and execute. Don't ponder.

You rarely see Sharp get the ball caught under his feet in the same way. He's made his mind up on what he's going to do before the ball gets to him.

Harry Kane is outrageously good at getting shots off before keepers have set and he's extremely powerful and accurate when he does it.

Easier said than done.

Almost every Blade was pleading with the club to show ambition and buy McBurnie and Brewster. They were both young with huge potential and have both ripped it up at Championship level.

So the logic was we can’t lose. Even if we get relegated then we have 2 strikers who are proven top performers in the Championship.

It’s kind of embarrassing that we’re still relying on a 35 year old Sharp backed up by equally old McGoldrick.
McG has gone remember.

Just keep Jebbo and Osula back, until the injuries get back and any incomings are sorted.

We may end up with Brewster starting and Jebbo/Osula as back up for a month or so.

Goals will come from elsewhere too. Berge, JLT, Osborn etc

Hecky has created competition for places in most areas except midfield, until Doyle is fit or Khadra arrives?

Still feel we may regret not signing a striker at all this summer.

.McGoldrick
.Burke
.Mousset
All released

.Sharp long term Injury

.Jebbison
.Osula
Aren't ready yet and need loan moves
