A strong turnout for us then - good to see the first teamers on the score sheet!

I thought that was an outlandish prediction for Sunday at first.

I think Wednesday jacking in their reserve teams set them back , they cant offer their back up or returning injured players decent competition
yes its only the reserves but it has more at stake than training or behind closed door set ups
Our fringe players do get a bit of competition in it

They must be bad if two shit left backs can score against them!

Taylor made his name in this league and could be good to have him pushing the first teamers in the latter parts of this year.
So it's good to see him back on the road to recovery.

I wasn't aware he'd made his name anywhere. He wasn't particularly highly rated when we signed him and he's done nothing to change that.

He was rated in certain circles as the "one to watch" and a promising talent at the time we picked him up.

Where was he hightly rated? He was released by Blackburn and at Tranmere they were not bothered he went at all saying he was very average (know a few Tranmere fans as do a bit of work in the Wirral). They reckoned a young kid by the name of Aaron Cresswell was far superior at his position and so it has proved as he is doing very well now at Ipswich.

With Francois and Williams on contracts after this season; Taylor will be moving on as will likes of Ertl in my opinion. Unsure why they have retained Philliskirk who cannot even make much of an impression at second string level; at least Mcallister and Tonne have shown flashes at firts team level and can see why we want to keep them.

Strange that likes of him (Philliskirk), Harriott and Chapel have not gone on loan. They need games if they are going to progress.

I do like the looks of Kennedy and Whitehouse from bits and pieces I have seen and are a bit younger than those above I believe and think they are definitely two to keep an eye on.

From scouting reports I'd seen and from talking to an ex-head scout. "Best left foot in the division" one of them said.

"just a shame it's attached to a dead weight", he went on to say.

:)

Id of expected Taylor to have much more pace about him than he has.

True he has a decent left foot but doesn't seem to offer much else.

Yes, but what did Baden-Powell ever know about football?

Anyway he'll be 155 tomorrow so his ideas are somewhat outdated. I'm surprised Adams didn't take him on as a consultant.

We  Woggles.

In my day we had woggles, not toggles.

Is woggle a non-PC word now?

PS According to Wikipedia a certain Bill Shankley designed the Gilwell Woggle.

They were woggles when I was in the Scouts and that was only 10 years ago.

35th St Oswald's

I was in the High Storrs school scouts troop, back in the 1950s.

I was a choir boy at St.Oswalds. I think we were paid 2 shillings a month for our efforts. Weddings were half a crown, though.

Most of our cubs came from Carterknowle School, so a fair few of them ended up at High Storrs. We didn't do any of our Church services at St Oswald's Church itslef though because, hilariously, our Scout Troop and the Church were engaged in a years long feud.

I am a product of Carterknowle School myself (1945 - 1951). I realise now that we had some excellent teachers, the best of all being a Welshman, Mr.Morgan. He always made lessons interesting and got quite a high number of our class through to Grammar Schools. I remember the school milk, but I can't remember any disciplinary problems in those days.

Not that this has anything to do with the start of this thread.
