Have we got one foot in?

Of course, but those vital components are contingent upon possession!

The Passing v Hoof debate is not simplistic; it's plain simple. Hoof lost the argument over 20 years ago. It survives only in the tiny minds of certain dinosaurs. .

It is simplistic because it implies there are only two playing styles in football.

Try not to confuse an accurate long pass to feet or into the stride of a team-mate with an aimless, hopeful long punt to nobody. It will enhance your understanding of the game.

Please tell me when I have confused an accurate long pass to feet or into the stride of a team-mate with an aimless, hopeful long punt to nobody? As in a post on here and not something you've dreamt.

3 more points , closer to Charlton, Ched screamer, all the doom sayers will be kicking the cat

Kicking it hard, kicking it long, kicking it high.

A great three points; all credit to DW and the lads. The two centre backs were magnificent today, with the full-backs admirable as well. Our £3m striker repaid another instalment, showing real character after fluffing the penalty, to come back with two fine goals.

Needless to say, the loss of K-Mac created a skills deficit in midfield. Get well soon Kev. If Sunday comes too soon for him we need to replace him with Williamson, a footballer or maybe even a loan player if he's out for a significant time. Number four did his very limited best but it was clearly not good enough. I hope no-one is daft enough to suggest he should play against the Pigs, but someone will, no doubt.

I dont get this 3m ched
the 3m was on goals appearance and promotion clauses for more than half
I bet we never paid more than 1.5 - 1.8, and thats being generous

Actually, with Macca possibly out, I'd say it might not be such a bad idea. We're a little bit lightweight, and we all know the pigs are going to want to out-muscle us. Putting Monty in the middle could just make a lot of sense.

>I hope no-one is daft enough to suggest he should play against the Pigs, but someone will, no doubt.
they're already at it mate.. 'make a lot of sense'.. i'm about ready to slit my wrists.. have these people learned nothing?

No mate, they haven't. Are we playing the Pigs at football or Tug-of-War? How can selecting a complete non-footballer make the slightest sense?

If Monty & Doyle play against the pigs then we will loose.

Williamson MUST get the nod in central midfield.

heh.. thanks Kev.. i got hammered for a similar post.. i'm simply not as popular {sob.. wrist to forehead.. laughs} .. i think we should try and stick to our principles.. willo reckons he's a CM.. lets see it then.. it's down to DW.. this game isn't the be all and end all.. i'd take a point

Of the two contrasting 'styles' only the latter is properly to be categorised as Hoof. Once you understand that, the debate is redundant rather than simplistic, because no-one in their right mind would advocate such garbage as a 'style of play'.

This is all very tiresome. The argument was won and lost thirty years ago. Hoof got the silver medal. The rest of football has moved on. Only the We  Hoof Brigade, rather like the anecdotal Japanese soldier, carry on a battle long since lost.

Is it crowded in Blackwell's Bunker?

Pinchy, you don't half talk a load of tripe. First it was 20 years ago that this mythical argument of years was settled, now, two days later, it is 30 years. You've also failed yet again to answer Bergen's perfectly valid question.

There's only one (well, perhaps two) person on here who constantly goes on about hoofing.

I think he doth protest too much m'lord.

Yes, but it's elegant, stylish tripe. I carefully juxtapose words and phrases so as to provide an aesthetic pleasure for my readership.

Contrast the batterered and bruised remnants of the once-mighty We  Hoof Brigade, who cannot string three words together in a coherent sentence but resort to slang, dull prose and doggerel.

Pathetic. Painted yourself into a corner again by making a statement about me which you couldn't back up? One more time, when have I "confused an accurate long pass to feet or into the stride of a team-mate with an aimless, hopeful long punt to nobody?"

When someone's asking a question of you, your defense mechanism seems to be making another clueless attack. Desperate, ignorant and pathetic. "Blackwell's Bunker" my arse. I was highly critical of Blackwell, whose football was absolutely dreadful and money wasting was a continuation of what happened under Robson. Details can be found in numerous posts on here and in this blog: http://scandinavianblades.webs.com/apps/blog/show/10160593-blackwell-s-short-termism

Time to back up your claim, throw in the  hoofball thing, or admit you got me wrong.

To be honest Bergen, I can't ever recall seeing a single post from anyone on this forum that has indicated that the poster loved hoofball, so who are this 'brigade' that he keeps mentioning?

Anybody who expresses admiration for “Dinosaur Dave” Bassett.
Anybody who points out that the “Ex Semi-Pro Goalie” Blackwell had some good points as well as bad.
Anybody who thinks “The Maestro” Montgomery has been a good club servant who still has a role to play.
Anybody who didn’t want “Elpiton” Quinn to be given away to anyone daft enough to take him.
Anybody who says there are more than two different ways of playing football.
Anybody who points out that Stoke have been successful playing “hoofball” (they don’t apparently).

In short, anybody who disagrees with him.

In other words almost everyone who posts on this forum then!

I think the psychology of it is interesting. Why do the likes of Ollie and Pinchy feel the need to invent some elaborate club based on opposing themselves to a mythical counter club? Is it all some elaborate joke or is it indicative of some deeper pathology?

Freud or Jung (or Keira Knightley when she wasn't being spanked. With her tits out) woul no doubt have a view.

I pointed out that passing football can be played with various degrees of tempo and risk taking, giving a specific video example. Pinchy seemed to conclude it was a whole hearted suggestion that we should start playing hoofball and bring back Kevin Blackwell.

When his mind is set so strongly on categorising people into fans of either passing or hoofball it seems difficult to take in a point on a completely different subject. So there doesn't even have to be a disagreement. He'll just turn it into one.

You're forgetting Mic's felch-fest for half of their posts. There's plenty of that going on too.

>I think the psychology of it is interesting
so do i Darren.. but for entirely opposite reasons.. i can't understand why people are obsessed with mediocrity and unsuccessful styles of football because they worked 30 years ago..'in the glory days' of dave bassett.. why are people obsessed with former players like tongey and brown (and monty. sniggers)..
there's nothing pathological about it.. some of us can't understand why we don't adapt a model that has been proved successful over many years now (apart from the mighty stoke of course.. who couldn't beat valencia btw).. we've finally addressed this problem and voila..

this 'mythical anti club' stuff is absolute guff. .people have their own opinions..
