Heading to support the UAE in Qatar this afternoon. UAE have laid on 5000 free tickets and flights to get there. So me and a mate (al Wahda FC coach) are adding our support. Apparently we are the only non Emirates on the trip, so should be easy to spot.

I will report back on what those traveling to the World Cup can expect this winter in Qatar.

I think most fans will base themselves in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. There are reports that there will be 90 flights per day heading to Qatar and back from the UAE during the World Cup. I would definitely use UAE as a base and bounce in and out for the games.

I live in Abu Dhabi at Yas island so if any Blades make it to Abu Dhabi then give me a shout. If you see 5 kids wandering around with a Blades shirts on then you will have found me.

Will add photos later!

Baghdad, I went to the World Athletics championships in Doha 3 years ago which was the first ever major championships in the city.

The infrastructure is superb, the airport was world class and the stadium out of this world (pipes at waist height and the top of the stands all the way round the ground pumping out cold air) and they were in the process of building out an underground system.

The organisation wasnt so good, crowds were very small but on the first couple of days in particular there were long queues to get in. This was partly due to extensive security checks but also the vast majority of the staff didnt seem to know what they were meant to be doing and were just stood around. Their inexperience in hosting a major event shone through but you have to assume there has been a rigorous training plan over the last few years.

Have a good trip

Five kids? I guess you have a lot of time on your hands in Abu Dhabi😂. Look forward to your reports.

Actually we have 6 between us. The 2 eldest boys are my step kids, and have converted them to the Blades ⚔️

I work here training the military But you are correct there is a lot of spare time 😂

You should have left the military bit out, some of our 'yoof' will be on asking for pyrotechnics!

You've got far too many chairs in your house Baghdad Blade :tumbleweed:
I sympathise, when we lived in Doha we rented a fully furnished villa for the first year we were there. There were more sofas than a DFS showroom when we moved in, kept having to get the landlord to come and move them out!

Now THAT is how to dress your kids, all looking very smart in that wonderful football club strip.

Well done mate, a genuine credit to parenting!

👍

Update - no singing on the aircraft, although the flight was only 31 mins. Really quick through Hammad International Airport and onto one of the 50 coaches waiting outside. No police in riot gear and no attack dogs. No I’m a long convoy to the ground.

I’m not sure England fans will get the same treatment.

Photo of the Al Wahda Business Crew leaving the aircraft below.

I see it's free to watch on Onefootball at 7pm. It'll make a change for me to tell my brother I've watched an Australian game - it's usually him whose watching United games in Oz

Not until they have learnt to kidney punch OAP's in wheelchairs.
Seriously though nice one Baghdad Blade. Enjoy.

Hope to be out in Nov/Dec for a stay, will give you a shout when we do. Our daughter (ex drop short 32 Reg) moved out a couple of weeks ago on a two year contract.

Somebody mentioned an ex gunner being here. Is her husband ex forces too? There are quite a few drop shorts here doing JTAC / Joint Fires stuff.
