Are we actually as skint as some fans claim?

Sheffield United invented skint in football,

Even when players used to play for a lump of coal and a new flat cap every month we didn't have as much coal or flat caps as everyone else
Does that include the signing of George Utley in 1913 for a British transfer record? I guess you didn't know this, as it doesn't fit well with your constant, tiresome sniping at our club.

Commented on now with the power of hindsight
We’ve all got a degree in hindsight mate

But when you recall Wilder eulogising about how they scout not just the player but the man. Assess data and speak to others, how as a Blade it’s like spending his own money

Then you see this shower of shite and wonder wtf

I’d personally exclude Lunny as he did contribute for a while, but when CW used to bang on about research the player and person = Rodwell, Ravel Morrison and Mousse, fuck hindsight, anyone with a basic knowledge of football could tell you to run a mile

Ones had more clubs than tiger woods, another never completes 90 minutes and watch a bit of Netflix on’t tele to see Rodders taking the piss out of sund’land

CW took us to great highs, but also left us in a right fucking state.

Ricky Holmes, Ryan Leonard, Lee Evans, Chris Hussey, James Wilson, Lys Moussett, Caolan Lavery, Samir Carruthers, Ben Heneghan, Ben Woodburn, Kean Bryan, Conor Washington, Ravel Morrison, Jack Fucking Rodwell, Panos Retsos, Richaro Zivkovic, Max Lowe, Olly Burke

I bet the prince was fuming that he was paying around £200k for players that are way off it....and in a harsh way I put JOC in that category too although that couldn't have been anticipated.

It was relative to the assertion that United invented "skint". I was just making the point that you don't have to knock the club constantly, like some do. Especially, when what you are alleging is simply untrue.
Fair point but a poor example in my opinion. I don't think he ment literally invented "skint" just that we've done things on cheap in past. But tbf we paid a record fee in shillings

£2,000. Which today would be £100 million, as that is the current record. Everything is relative to it's time. In another century, maybe someone will snigger that it was only 100 million!

I stand corrected sir! That is an astonishing fact and I'll be sure to remember it. Feel a bit of a twat for being sarcy with you please take this as an apology 😇

Yes
But we did used to be a good club

A proper giant before Man Utd, Liverpool and the rest.

Unfortunately they went one way, and we went the "Good enough for us" way

You could add McBurnie to that list too. How we paid what we did baffles me. He isn't even related to a footballer.

Brewster may turn out OK in the long run but he was a gamble too.

I agree with Rodwell and to an extent Ravel, ( that was just a CW vanity project, who started to believe he was God’s gift) but Mousse was more of a calculated risk and you could argue that his goals helped to keep us up and as high in the table as we ended.
I’m talking more about players like, Freeman, McBurnie, Brewster, where there wasn’t much opposition to them signing, in fact quite the opposite but now that things haven’t gone to plan, suddenly everyone knew that they were bad signings and what were we doing signing them. I still think Brewster will come good, as the 5 or 6 games before the latest injury showed. I’m probably more worried about this and his previous long term injury will affect him both mentally and physically.

How did you arrive at that figure ?

According to the UK Inflation Calculator website , £100 in 1913 was the equivalent of approximately £12,300 in today’s money meaning that £2,000 was the equivalent of just £252,000 which I think you will agree is somewhat short of £100 million . :)

I was merely making the point, that to break the transfer record today, you would have to pay over £100 million. I was trying to emphasise, that once upon a time, United really were a big deal. The actual monetary figures are irrelevant, in football terms, as you can only break the record that currently stands. I do accept your point though, that the inflationary aspect is astounding and in my opinion spoiling football.

The remaining Squad to get a further wage cut this season:

"There's two parts to the playing squad - the wage bill and the capital investment,” Bettis said. “From a wage bill perspective, the majority of players in our squad get a second reduction in their wages for being in the Championship for a second season. So if we'd just kept all our players, the wage bill drops because of that.
“Then Morgan Gibbs-White and Ben Davies were expensive loan players who have gone along with out-of-contract players like (Lys) Mousset who were expensive as well. All of that money is for Paul to use again on wages.”
Bettis added: "We're not trying to cut the wage bill, it's there for him to use. Where the problem comes is buying players because that's a chunk of cash that has to come from somewhere.”

Joc with a long time career threatening injury will be covered by club insurance .don't please put in him the same sentence as the other charlatans

Didn't Neymar go for about £190m?

Bring back the cricket square
Sadly I never saw the cricket square. But when I started supporting the Blades in the 73/74 season, the construction of the South stand was well under way. At the time this development became a touchstone excuse for everything that was wrong with this club of ours.

As I said it’s very harsh that I was, however, I wasn’t aware of insurances so that clarifies his part within those ‘wasted wages’.

It’s a harsh game and if I was playing £30k a week to a player who’s not kicked a ball for 2 seasons I’d be a little bit frustrated, even though the situation couldn’t be predicted when he signed his new deal. I as all Blades were buzzing when he signed that deal.

Thanks for clarifying though 👍🏻
