Any reason why the club take-over subject is so low key?

The only deal we know about is a suspicious one expected not to happen. The other parties involved we know nothing about or how likely they are to happen. Not much for us to talk about.

The rumours shouldn't have got out, they haven't helped.

The Pinch (subscription service) have a fantastic article on Henry Mauriss which I highly recommend reading if you want more info on the potential takeover. I'm not involved with the Pinch but I thought this was very well written, proper journalism.

It looks like a Hashemi-style wheelbarrow full of bollocks to me.

If you want to bid for and buy out a football club which historically has had a legacy of failure, is in transition with regard its playing staff and owns a ground which a previous owner is spitefully checkmating any expansion plans then good luck to you. Especially if it seems you are made from fresh air and farts.

We are not being sold, HRH isn't cashing more money in, we will have to flog, buy and rebuild and Hecky is here to stay.

Get used to it.

Can you appoint me as Director of Football? I've got a great Football Manager C.V.

Damn. I was on the point of making an offer until I read your second paragraph !!

There's a clue in your question.

Its low key because its suspicious.

Anybody who thought it was genuine needs therapy.

“A 670% return on his investment”

Err, no.

Then there a valuation of £90m. Based on transfermarket player valuation £80m) meaning the property value appears to be just £10m.

Would you really want a large proportion of the fanbase accusing you of asset stripping and spending the clubs money on non club things?

Makes you wonder what the point is of offering to buy Newcastle and then having an offer accepted on us without the funds to do so.

Perhaps I'll make a gazillion pound offer to buy us and then not back it up 🤷‍♂️

It does feel this Henry Mauriss character or figment of someone's imagination is at best a stalking horse used to flush out potential investors if any.

There weren't any.

The end!

Just like the vast majority of professional football clubs all over the world. There are only so many mega rich individuals with the interest and ego or the requirement to sportswash their reputation to do it. The rest of us muddle along and hope that success comes from astute recruitment & good coaching.

I’m fine with that.

Depressingly likely.

What exactly does a 'director of football' do?

To me, team selection, statement of requirement in recruitment, training, strategy (match-on-match and overall), matchday governance and responsibility of league position sits with the coaching staff, with the first team manager/coach being the buck-carrier.

Having someone sitting between the board and bench who trumps all of that (which was touted for Harry Bassett for us one day wasn't it?) is a recipe for disaster.

Most club takeovers are not made public until very close to it being done. Any public names trying to buy a club rarely do if it drags on more than a few weeks.

I always assumed the rationale for a Director of Football was that the rest of the directors know fuck all about football.

I'd say that's my take on it too.

There's something a bit Crab Industries about this Mauriss guy. Prince ain't perfect but maybe better the devil you know.

Could be worse, could be elephants in the car park and non existent sponsors.......

Oddly enough the D Taxis accounts would appear to show that sponsorship monies from two/three years ago do not seem to have been paid over to the FC (football club/f****** c**** , your choice) which could cast doubts on it not being a bona fide transaction. Wonder if it’s the same for Elev8 and any other Chancer owned set ups.

His business partner is Mike Blood, feckin name send shivers down the spine.

Blood 🧛‍♂️ specialist in takeovers, hospitality, sponsorships etc is a graduate of SH uni hence the tenuous link of “why SUFC”?

Blood 🧛‍♂️ probably seen lots of money being made with “Leveraged Takeovers” and thought I want a bit of that.

Smells more fishy than Dolphin killers canning factory for me.

Traditional football managers in England have taken care of all of those things. However, over the years there have been more factors creep into the game, money for one but also a much more business like structure to the clubs.

The board and owners don't know (and never really have known) enough about football to know whether £1 Million or £10 Million for a striker is good value, managers can often be good at networking but not with money.

A manager is often a well qualified coach with some additional skills such as people management. But he's also (often) got a very short term view as within a matter of weeks with bad results he could be out of a job. When a manager is gone, they often take with them a number of staff and leave a hole. Many managers don't also have experience in dealing with Academies even if they often bring through yoiung players. They're much more short immediate term.

A DoF in theory provides an umbrella over the entire football business and direct it to where it needs to go. I'm not convinced that we have a DoF in the strictest sense as we have the Owner and Board of Directors (where Van-Winkel sits in that role) and i can only assume that they provide the checks and balances on the work of Bettis as CEO and Hecky as "Football Manager".

Other than that as we have Carl Shieber as Head of Football Administration and i believe that Paul Mitchell is still on board as Head of Recruitment so whilst Hecky is no doubt heavily involved in all aspects as you mentioned, but he also relies on the support functions to help achieve the clubs goals - short, medium and long term.

Our stucture is a little less DoF role and that now looks intentional following the Hecky appointment and Slav departing.
