Time to look forward. Season starts early (30july) due to World Cup.

Any news re preseason training, need to get planning

Gibraltar please
We did that last season Hall?! 48 hours on are you feeling; a tad better? I'm still miffed/down but my mother in law is up so that's cheered me up no end! 😡

Wonder if we’d maybe do Scotland? Hecky has the Hibs link and McCall from Rangers/Motherwell/being in the Scotland side.

Ha! Well the team trained in Gib this pre-season but played in Spain, also none of us could travel to watch them, get them playing on the Rock and let us travel, be a great trip out!

Doesn't the stadium in Gibraltar have an AstroTurf pitch? Can't imagine we would be keen to play a friendly on an AstroTurf pitch...

It's a synthetic pitch but they aren't like the astro of the old days, it's quality and they host international teams there, I even played on it once, was like real grass. However I concede you may be right that the lads wouldn't be keen. I just want an excuse to return to the Rock. It's purely selfish.

Yeah I know they're not like the old astro pitches, but even the newest 5G pitches aren't exactly like grass, the ball still doesn't quite bounce the same etc. Gibraltar are only allowed to hold friendlies there now aren't they? Don't they have to play competitive games elsewhere since they joined UEFA?

No. I've covered qualification international games for radio in Gib against the likes Ireland, Denmark and Estonia.

The FIFA World Cup Qualifier in October between Andorra & England was played on a plastic pitch.

When SUFC used to pre season in Malta, we weren't allowed to use the National Stadium, and the second pitch/ground at the complex is plastic, and we wouldn't use that, so the games were always on "the third pitch" (grass) way out the back

It’s Portugal in July don’t know the date yet but it all depended what league we were playing in now we know it’s definitely Portugal very beginning of July 👍

Gib used to have a grit pitch back in the day, right in front of HMS Rooke. I have played on it a few times (and scored a few goals an' all)

It was one of those pitches and surfaces that was fast, dusty but flat. But if you fell over, the wound it caused on any part of your body would be first of all down several layers of skin and secondly fucking agonising in the shower afterwards and thirdly you'd drag your bedding off your bunk stuck to it the morning after. It was like road-rash and would happily go weeping and septic an' all. I think the Gibboes used to sweep human excrement into it I think.

Happy days

Grimsby away, Leeds at home, Millwall away. Then first game of the new season against play-off final losers Forest at home.
I remember wilders first season and getting up early to go to cleethorpes on the train, I thought to myself a nice sunny day, a few beers by the seaside watching the blades and bring some candy floss back… I wasn’t expecting a full scale riot from 12pm until we got back to the train station !
