Stevens vs RND

To be honest it'd just replicate their dark arts that they showed on Saturday, time wasting after 20 minutes and players going down and miraculously getting up when the physio was about to come on.
 



If you all remember RND managed both johnstone and Spence when they played here in the league. Dont want to sound all knowing now, but i did think before KO that Hecky should consider the two more pacy wing backs

A Garryowen is a rugby term for a high kick which gives the attacking side a good chance of regaining the ball and some ground. Named after an Irish side which perfected the tactic in the 1920s.

It was a useful.tactic in EA Sport's Rugby 2005 on the PS2, accompanied by the game's Scottish commentator Ian Robertson repeatedly shouting "hits up the Garryowen!"

Worth noting that RND gave away a penalty in that game after he got skinned by Spence.
Was a little contentious, but he got beat and even through Spence played for it, clattered into the back of him.

Even given that, I'd go with RND, he's a better athlete and seems hungrier than Enda is these days.

Colback and Samba can’t help themselves, they love to get involved. Wind those 2 up enough and you are lighting the blue touch paper. The problem is who do we get to do it? The one thing we miss is a Dennis Wise style character who refs the game and winds the opposition up until they explode.
 
Spence was a red card waiting to happen on Saturday. Arguing with teammates. Losing his rag on more than one occasion. RND for me is a better defender and has a bit more niggle in him than Stevens so I would tell him to go out and get under Spence’s skin and see what happens

Honest question. Was the challenge on Berge any less of a penalty than the one Spence got?

For Spence's one, it was as much a coming together and he just got slightly in front of Norrington-Davies and legs tangled but I'm not convinced he fouled him per se, it was a natural progression of running across him. His heel would go into the United man as much as the opposite. At some point Spence's leg would hit Norrington-Davies. That doesn't make it a foul. It certainly wasn't a blatant trip.

On Berge, Garner was absolutely nowhere near the ball and had hold of him for a good period. You could see from replays Mariner was not looking at them. It's disappointing how wilfully blind the assistants are. They offer no additional help to the refs at all. Some won't even give throw-ins. That is the sort of off the ball challenge that VAR eats up for breakfast. For all how poor we believe we were, that could have been given, Egan had one off the line and Berge put one over the bar when well placed. It's not as if it was the total one way traffic some press would have us believe.

I sense some overconfidence in them. Hopefully that will be their undoing. To coin Klopp, we have to be the mentality monsters tonight. Let's leave everything out on the field and see where it gets us. We need a reaction and often this team can give you one.

I think you're being kind to Spence calling it a coming together and saying their legs got tangled.

From what I remember he deliberately put his leg out in front of RND and then went down as soon as there was contact that he initiated. It was clever by him and fooled the ref but for that reason, for me it wasn't a penalty.

But you’d probably have given it as well in real time, or aren’t you easily as fooled as a referee ?

If I'm honest I'd had a few (putting it lightly) beers before the game Saturday, soaking up and enjoying the atmosphere.
The Berge penalty shout doesn't stick out in my mind.
I was sat on SS towards the kop end, so maybe not a clear view of it from where I was. On the highlights I watched the following day, the challenge wasn't shown.

I said the Spence penalty was contentious. I was sat in front of it on the Kop so had a good view of that one.
It wasn't a penalty in my eyes. But how many times do we see a player who is in front of an opposing player, slow down and buy a foul from getting legs tangled etc.
It was accidental, however I can see why it was given, that's just how it is these days.
 
For as poor as Ozzy and Enda were on Saturday, I’m struggling with the concept of playing George and RND when we’re a goal down and need guile in the final third.
 
4 at the back for 70 mins GB and RND to start keep it 0-0 and then have a go.
 
One of these to leave to balance the books? We have Lowe, Stevens, RND and Osborn. Wage and age wise I'd say Enda but wouldn't be easy.
