Did anyone else reflect on the fine line between successs and obscurity yesterday?

Playing the team that beat us to 2nd spot by 3 points in 2009 having beaten us with a last minute goal in the first game of the season. They go on to 2 seasons in the top flight and a trophy, plus parachute, in the meantime we have been forced to sell the family silver and sunk to the 3rd tier.

We were outclassed yesterday, for obvious reasons, most of them financial!

Anyway onwards and upwards bring on the mighty Colchester!

I thought they beat us by one point but never mind. What I did notice was the difference in their support. I remember watching the game they had against Preston around 6 games from the end of that 2009 season. Preston beat em' and the Brum fans were booing and singing McLiesh out. Just shows what they knew about the game.
PS. We were'nt outclassed yesterday. The 4-0 scorline flattered Brum.

I think we got a lucky escape from Televisual humiliation considering who birmingham have drawn in the fifth round

We were very poor at the back yesterday and allowed them way too much time to put away they’re chances.
Our lack of pace showed so much yesterday and our front two looked very poor against a simply average defence. We were unlucky at times but yesterday really showed how far away we are from championship quality. Going up is still going to be a task but if we do, many singings will need to be made to stay up.
Let’s be honest Birmingham were nothing special yesterday at all, there were many periods where they gave the ball away constantly but we didn’t have the quality or backbone to punish them .
I would dread to think the score if we had played a decent team yesterday

heres a pointer
piggies have only won 1 game this season , at home v mk dons in matches against the current top 9

they got to play all the bottom half teams at home , which covers our remaining home games , 8 of which are against lower half teams
win those its 24 more points on top of what we have , more or less ensures play offs alone

So, If two teams play eachother from the same division and one beats the other by 4 goals it shows the 'gulf in class' difference?

Not always that clear cut Boo, sometimes if they are newly relegated they have the money and squad from the division above and are playing a team who have not got those resources yes it may be a gulf in class. equally sometimes a team gets lucky and all the shots hit the back of the net!

I would suggest that yesterday when push came to shove Birmingham were a level above us both defensively and offensively.

However hopefully tables will be turned next week when we play Colchester.

Most of the time i would argue yes, though there is obviously freak results from time to time.

Leeds 0 Blackpool 5
peterborough 7 ipswich 1
leicester 4 Forest 0
Stevenage 5 pigs1
I'm sure there are many more. Is it that a win by 4 goals or more shows a gulf in class and 3 goals does not?
Are birmingham premiership quality playing in the Championship?
the question we want answered is can we compete in the championship?

Given that we can't beat the team around us,I'd say no, not at this moment in time.
