Happy Bank Holiday Sunday one and all

I have quite a 'shit ton' of Blades programmes that I am considering selling on.

I think the oldest one I have is from back in the 50's. But I also have some from the 60's through to current day.

Would anyone be interested in these if I was to sell?

Good luck with that.

I've got a garage full from 1971 onwards that I'm struggling to give away.

Jesus, that's a job I need to sort as well. Need to get motivated. Every time I try I just sit reading em, looking at the players from the past. Retirement next year, I'll put it on the to do list.
Probably have to survive 20 years just to get the to do list done🤣UTB.

If I had any way of currently telling which I was missing… :)

I've just finished cataloging mine......all 52,000 of them and that's took the best part of three years.

Naturally, not all of them are united.

As a general rule they're not going to be worth a great deal, although there are exceptions, reserves from the mid 70s are well sought after nowadays. 1st Team the odd one at home like the anglo Scottish from 76 (Newcastle and Middlesbrough), the odd postponed game (Derby 90/1), Aways from the 60s onwards the odd one Blackburn away 77 (newspaper), and again the odd postponed one.

Away friendlies such as Rybnik and Taranaki, towards three figures, the Gibralter festival from 76 more.

There will be one or two others, and bulk does come up at auctions quite often and a large amount (400 +) might get £15-25 lot but then you have to get them there and by the time the auction house takes it cut you're clearly not going to be rolling it.

If you eBay them, it would have to be collection only so that too is worth remembering.

Thanks Sharrow, some good information there.

I've got a fair few of the binders of complete seasons I may sell as is, then some are individuals I may just stick on ebay and keep reposting till someone buys!

Programmes in Binders are easy to sell however for 70-71 and 71-72. I sold for £25 each.
If you have the single sheet Blades v West Ham Feb 63 is rare you could get £40 plus.

What you reckon the 79 boxing day programme plus matchday ticket would fetch?

I find eBay programmes do eventually sell individually, but you need to be incredibly patient and realistic in terms of pricing and take advantage of every selling fees discount eBay offers; little and often, add 5 programmes daily and you'll have 150 online in a month and 1,800 in a year. 👍

As for the 52,000 that needs a whole different level of commitment and project management! 🤣

That said, even 25p profit on each one would generate £13,000!

Not sure why, but I have a mint copy of the Blades v River Plate game from the late 70s that always stands out as special to me.

And I'm sure a few of us will remember their outrageously skillful goal, curled into the Bramall Lane goal from close to halfway on the John Street touchline?!?

Use them as a Family Heirloom they will look good on your Will , Probably taking up only a sq yard of space , but they do weigh a ton.

Alonso's curler at BL end was from just outside the penalty box not from near the halfway line. Jim Brown was rooted to his spot watching the equaliser go in. Luque's winner at Kop was a shot to the roof of the net after a breakaway

Agreed. Alonso's curler watched all the way by Brown with him moving was painful but funny in terms of him being totally outclassed.

[Better grammar!]

I don't any Wendy fan that didn't go to that game, and some weren't even born then

But seriously, I would think you're talking about £8-10 in good condition.

Definitely got the Blackburn one. Didn’t Notts County do paper same season too?

Think I may have Anglo one(s) too.

If you're talking Lane Line Up bound volumes from that period then yes. I like them and I'd pay a bit more than that tbh.

The West Ham one has come down in value over the years. About 10 years ago it was about £70-80, nowadays £40 is much nearer the mark, although I've seen it go below £30. Just make sure its a genuine one and not a photocopy

The Blackburn one from 77-8 (Newspaper) doesn't come up very often as numbers are limited and can fetch up to £40. The Anglo Scottish single sheets from the home matches between Middlesbrough and Newcastle are quite interesting.

The Newcastle one has gone up and down in price over the years from between £70 and £35 as a general rule.

The Middlesbrough one is slightly more complicated. As was the thing back then United single sheets wither Had 'Programme' written at the top or 'Late Team Changes'.

It is highly sought after by Boro collectors if it has 'Programme' at the top, many will not accept the other as being the programme.

I've had this discussion with many Boro fans that, this was the way it was with United single sheets from that period, Reserves included. But it falls on death ears.

If it has 'Programme' at the top then you can get £100 plus.

Just as a side note, prices of programmes is not an exact science. The majority of collectors and dealers do not collect modern day programmes due to the weight and storage space and many dismiss them as worthless.

Its true that a lot can be picked up in bulk at low prices but there are always anomalies, last year I was contacted by a Swindon Town fan who was missing just three programmes from his collection one of which was Swindon away at United 2016. He just hadn't been able to find it and asked if I had a spare copy. I said I had and I would send it him. He sent me £20. So there you go, its a strange world.

I have the incredibly privileged advantage of being old with grown up kids, a paid off mortgage and a reasonable amount of spare cash. As I'm also a boring bastard, I don't do much other than collect programmes.

Hence a willingness to pay over the odds for gaps in my collection. Anyone with programmes to sell, message me and if you've got any I need, there's loadsamoney in it for you:-)
