Royals mate says that there are rumours abound on Reading forums that they've bid £1 million for Evans and it's been rejected.

Just saying.

:D thats reight ....i was buying a Roast Pork earlier at Asda...lass on check out told me same ...must be true .

I would say at least 1 million short there IF he was for sale which he isnt

to an extent we can name our price at the moment with his current form. or is his contract out at the end of the season?

IF we spend the money or should i say some of it on a decent replacement, whos got a good history of goals in this league, then sell him.

We could reject all bids this January and keep him, then when his court case comes he could be locked up for say 3 years and we lose out. Not worth the risk IMO.

Makes sense really, someone like, (but not neccesarily!) Jamie Cureton who used to score goals for fun at this level would fit in fine with our current set up, would score goals and get us promoted, then we flog him!

And a rape conviction would see our Ched banged up for a lot longer than 3 years.....

So he is guilty then is he? I cant see anyone taking him on other than loan until the case is heard or dropped.
Personnaly I would be offering a new contract with a clause in that if he goes down then we can terminate the contract.

So if McCabe resists the bids knowing that he's out of contract in the summer, is McCabe doing the right thing for the club?

I'd say that 2 Million loss on a sale is worth it for probably 10 goals between now and the end of the season if we go up.

Of course promotion is not guaranteed if we keep Ched, but we stand a better chance of promotion if we keep him than if we take 2million for him now... because its guaranteed that the replacement won't be as good.

Nail on head here.

There surely isn`t a Chairman in the land who would lash out £1m+ on a player that they might get 2 months work out of, even if they can cancel his contract if he goes down.

A side like Reading might not need much more than two months to get promoted and bag millions and millions... it might be a calculated gamble?

Providing that they don't have to play Cardiff away in that time... Ched can't go to Wales

Surely if Evans was to move it would be on a free transfer?

Given the court case why would anyone pay money for him? I could see United accepting an offer just to cut the wage bill. The club which signed him would lose out only a couple months wages if he were to go to jail.

If he was to go I think you would see alot more people in the carpark than were at the DW press conference

spot on stanny..
a million?.. pfft.. i believe it is known in football circles as a 'cheeky bid'

There's going to be no decent strikers changing hands cheap in JTW. It's the time of year when sense goes out of the window if they do and as such £1m can only be a cheeky bid.

To my mind, the contract should include clauses that if you are in jail you do not get any wages. If he spent a few years in bird he may never return to previous form.

No chance keep him we have a settled side don't disrupt it some smart arse lawyer will get it adjourned again til after the end of the season.

I am touched by your belief in the powers of "smart arse lawyers" :-)

The trial is set for April and only a very good reason would persuade a judge to grant an adjournment.

i know of trials up to and including rape cases where its been adjourned because of "defendant suffering with stress and depression" and if thats a very good reason darren then so is a blades promotion push :)
on a serious not, a decent barrister should be able to pull off an adjournment without to much difficulty fo eg brandy and decent cigars all round and a night at a high class brothel should do it :P

Some years ago I attended a luncheon where the highly entertaining guest speaker was Cynthia Payne - she of the sex-for-luncheon-voucher-parties fame.
Apparently some of her best clients were judges and barristers.

i wasnt joking broomhill. i dont know if anyone remembers the old Omega sauna on attercliffe common, many years ago it was raided about 11pm one friday night, i cant say how i know but several high ranking police officers and in the legal profession were taken away, strangely the raid and its lifted persons were never reported or appeared in court, case closed :)
