Looked up their position in the non league pyramid. They are 4 divisions below us. When was the last time we faced an FA Cup opponent that low down in the pyramid?

They are 3, not 4, Divisions below us. They are in the Conference South.

Burscough were in the Cheshire County League. There wasn't a "pyramid" as such at the time but that League was definitely below the Conference (or Alliance Premier as it was at the time) and the Northern Premier, so they were probably 3 divisions below too.

United have played a team 3 tiers below them on 3 other occasions since WW2:

1959 - Worcester City from the Southern League when we were in Division 2. Worcester had beaten Liverpool in the 3rd round, but we knocked them out.
1988 - We beat Maidstone 1-0 (and were lucky to do so) in the first game after McEwan was fired. They were in the Conference, we were in Division 2.
2000 - Division 2 vs Conference again, as we scraped by Rushden and Diamonds on penalties.

Would have been a bigger crowd had it been Grimsby

I see Grimsby scored on 92 minutes. Then played extra time. Which made me think, if you score say on 93 minutes in normal time then on 92 minutes in extra time. Officially, you have scored your second goal before your first. Woooooww.

Salisbury's medieval cathedral has Britain's tallest spire.

However, the club doesn't have a naff nickname like the 'Spireites'.

They call themselves 'The Whites'. Presumably they don't have any mixed race players. ;-)

Burscough are currently the whipping boys of the Unibond Northern Premier, the division Kendal are in. I think they tend to yoyo between the premier and the league below. Promotion from the NPL is to the conference North.

Great result for Fleetwood last night. Set up a local derby with Blackpool. Sod the Manc derby, the telly cameras should be at Highbury. They play in red shirts with white sleeves. All coincidence & nowt to do with the Arse - the strip was the company colours of the sponsoring trawler fleet.

Ties like these are what make the FA Cup by far the most interesting competition in football. Everywhere else, seeding loads everything in the favour of the bigger clubs, so Fleetwood & Salisbury would never get the chance to play at bigger clubs.

Was indeed, watched it in their club bar with around 400 others ! Shame their main man is a piggy

ALTRINGHAM 81 - 82 Drew at home lost at thiers I belive cant remember scores though

I found this on the internet:-

"In November 2003, the Whites reached the FA Cup First Round for the eighth time, losing to Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at Hillsborough in front of 11,419 spectators."

Nightmare scenario 1 - we don't win, or if we do, we win by less than 4-0

Nightmare scenario 2 - the crowd is lower than 11,419

We'd never live it down and it would be conclusive proof that we're not as big or as good as the unclean....

Not too fussed as long as we go through, besides, if they go out, we've got ourselves in the next round so they can just be quiet ;)

I think it's one of those games that will be billed as "their cup final" and "epitomising the romance of the cup". Half the town could show up. It could also receive a lot of media coverage. I doubt there will be less there than Torquay.

I'd like to see the kop open for this one. We always used to open the kop when we were getting crap crowds in the lower leagues in the 80's. The ground looks a lot better, and the atmosphere is better. I am not sure how much money the club saves by keeping it closed but it can't be much.

Not about to lose sleep over that though.
